00:00Jeff Passan, on with Arkan on Friday night, good get by Arkan.
00:05A lot of good stuff from Passan.
00:07Cora definitely not blameless.
00:09No, bad season for Cora.
00:11Managing some of these personalities.
00:14We'll get into John Henry and some insight that Passan had in the reporting.
00:19Henry met with Devers twice in Kansas City.
00:21We knew about the initial report and the flight there.
00:23He also met with him the next morning for breakfast.
00:25A little brekkie.
00:25Devers blew him off both times, wouldn't get on board.
00:28And I'm sure Henry came back and said, let's get rid of this guy.
00:31To that point, that was, again, what, a month ago, whatever that was.
00:35Twitch chat is saying, well, two things.
00:38Larry, number one, we're smearing Devers because we carry the Red Sox games.
00:43And we're only doing that as a favor of the organization.
00:46Well, I mean, people join the show at all different times.
00:48We appreciate that.
00:49We've been pretty consistent since February.
00:52I was going to say, we were ripping him and smearing him, I guess,
00:54while he was on the team.
00:55While he was a member of the team back in spring training all the way.
00:58That's right.
00:58Where I'm sure the team was trying to turn things around with him
01:01before they made their decision to move on.
01:02That Kansas City trip, by the way, was May 9th, 10th, and 11th.
01:05So it's a month and a half.
01:07So, yeah.
01:09I mean, if you think we're just smearing him because we carry Red Sox games,
01:11I guess we were doing it while he was playing for the team every day.
01:15Yeah.
01:16But go ahead.
01:16But the other item in there as well is we were ripping Devers for not hitting a
01:22walk-off home run.
01:22No, no, no, no.
01:23I said I would get the Gatorade bath and him doing post-game media if he walked it
01:29off.
01:29All he did was hit a home run earlier in the game.
01:32And so I was saying for Devers to do the post-game media, it stood out.
01:36It wasn't a walk-off situation.
01:38It stood out that he was having such a good time.
01:40Because we also found out he turned those down all the time.
01:42He was yucking it up.
01:43He turned it down.
01:43He refused to do those here.
01:44Even in walk-off situations here.
01:46And then with the Giants, he hits a home run early.
01:48And he's like, oh, yeah, put me on the TV.
01:49I love doing interviews.
01:51Dump Gatorade on me.
01:52Woo.
01:52So that's what I was ripping him for.
01:54Let me play first base, please.
01:55If you don't like me ripping him for that, fine.
01:57I didn't rip him because he didn't hit a walk-off home run.
01:59Though that does sound like something I would say.
02:01Yeah.
02:03What were we just going over in the last part?
02:05Oh, Karabas is in his mentions.
02:09We were talking about Jaron Duran.
02:10Yep.
02:11Jaron Duran.
02:12Rough game yesterday.
02:14Yeah, bad game.
02:15And not a good season.
02:16Rough season.
02:16He's number one on the Athletics trade big board.
02:20And perhaps in a related story, Karabas right now is,
02:23seems like he's done with Jaron Duran.
02:25Uh-oh.
02:26This is what happens.
02:28You have big supporters.
02:29Like Alex Cora, big supporter of Rafael Devers.
02:31Then he was not a big supporter of Rafael Devers.
02:33Uh-huh.
02:34And now he's gone.
02:34And, you know, Karabas is very pro Red Sox.
02:37He's a very outspoken Red Sox fan.
02:40Like, I don't think he hides from that in any way, shape, or form.
02:43He puts it on display.
02:44Right.
02:44And so for Karabas to be done with you, I wonder.
02:49Yeah, what happened?
02:50What happened?
02:51Well, I wonder what happened, but I also wonder if he's.
02:53What happened?
02:54He's got an idea that Duran may not be long for him.
02:57Well, if he's number one on that list that you were reading earlier,
03:00The Athletic had guys that could be traded between now and the deadline,
03:02and Jaron Duran's number one on that list.
03:04It's not kind of like thrown in there as like a maybe.
03:07Feels like there could be something cooking.
03:09You know what's going to happen, Keefe?
03:10What's going to happen?
03:11They're going to trade Duran,
03:12and now we're going to just be where everybody else is with Devers.
03:14And we're going to be like, this organization's stupid.
03:16Yeah.
03:17And I hate it.
03:17Yeah.
03:17Although Duran's kind of on a down note.
03:20He is.
03:20I don't know.
03:21If he was playing like he was last year and they traded him, it'd be insane.
03:23Yeah.
03:24But Jaron Duran's not Mookie Betts.
03:26Like, he had a really good year last year.
03:28And they do need to figure out at some point what their outfield's going to be.
03:32Like, what's your everyday outfield?
03:34Is it Roman Anthony, Sadon, Raphael, or Willier, or Abreu?
03:37Well, then you do trade Jaron Duran, I guess.
03:40That's true.
03:41But is it, you know, Jaron Duran, Raphael, and Roman Anthony?
03:44All right.
03:45Well, then you maybe trade Willier, Abreu.
03:46It does seem like all four of those guys probably need to play every day.
03:50Like, I was of the mindset, maybe Raphael can kick in, or maybe Raphael can be the Swiss
03:55Army knife.
03:56I don't know.
03:57He's turned around.
03:58Maybe he needs to play every single day.
04:00It's true.
04:00Because I was of that same mindset.
04:02Yeah.
04:02And I probably still lean that way, but he has been hitting.
04:05And, you know, he had a monster weekend this weekend.
04:07And having like a really good glove in center field is pretty helpful.
04:11I mean, I think all the pitchers would say, like, yeah, I like having him out there.
04:15So, look, I wonder if Duran really is on the block.
04:18Sounds like it.
04:19Just reading into Karabas being done with him.
04:22I wonder if he's heard things that the organization is done with him.
04:25But, again, that's just a guess.
04:26It's been a disaster.
04:27It's not been great.
04:30Should we start looking at Theo?
04:31I was very excited when Theo came in, Keith.
04:33I got an email about this over the weekend that I thought was interesting.
04:36And it's like, Theo, Breslau is a Theo guy.
04:41Theo was brought in.
04:42I thought it was my favorite thing the organization had done in like a decade was bringing Theo back.
04:46It was like one of my favorite things they've done where I was like, huh, bringing back a guy who's had success with Major League Baseball and with the Cubs and obviously with the Red Sox, getting him back involved in any way, shape, or form.
04:57Even if it's more with Fenway Sports Group and more with the rest of the portfolio, but just to be an ear in the organization for the baseball team, like at what point do we look at it and say, some of this is on Theo too?
05:07Is that fair to start looking at?
05:09Because I imagine Breslau's here in big part because of him.
05:13Yeah, but also he was not the first choice, second choice, third choice, 12th choice.
05:18Like he eventually came in and maybe Theo had a little bit of hand in that.
05:21But I was hopeful for a moment when they brought him in and then was it early on when somebody was asked about it?
05:28They're like, well, he's going to kind of overlook everything.
05:30And like, he's like just as much involved in soccer.
05:32I was like, yeah, which, well, I was like, I'm out.
05:34I got it.
05:34They said, I don't buy that though.
05:36Yeah.
05:36I buy that.
05:37Uh, kind of, he's as, he's as involved with soccer as he is.
05:40He shouldn't be, but I'm also like, I don't really understand the point of this.
05:43Cause then there's like, there's always those whispers about like, is this just added to the resume so he can eventually become commissioner of baseball?
05:51It's just sort of like putting this on the list or own his own club.
05:54Yeah.
05:54Something, I mean, something to that effect.
05:56Like it feels like they wanted him back, but obviously she's chief baseball officers beneath him.
06:01So it's like, all right, what role do you have?
06:02And how much say do you have?
06:05You know, if they signed Juan Soto, maybe I would have been like, yeah, he's a little bit more involved.
06:09I guess this off season was a better off season than the previous ones, but I'm still not convinced that he has like a huge say.
06:15Yeah.
06:15I, uh, I was very hopeful when he came in and I guess I'm going to be consistent.
06:20I got to look at it and go, all right, well, where are things heading and how much blame is on him?
06:24Now, I believe more in Breslau than I think a lot of people do, but if you're out on Breslau and you hate the job he's doing and you want him fired.
06:30And I know a lot of people do well, then you got to look at Theo as well.
