Curtis: (on Red Sox situation) "It's a disaster"
What do you believe is Craig Breslow's vision? What should Breslow and the #RedSox look to add at the Trade Deadline?
Transcript
00:00absolutely brought in a guy that is a robot and they're trying to remove independent thought from
00:06people that weren't hired by breslow breslow is as insulated as ever he is protecting his new way
00:13of business and alienating all those that predated his arrival here and it's just it's a disaster
00:20like so basically the the baseball people some of them have been there had been there for a long
00:27time right and they're gone they're being iced out yeah but is if you're the new leadership in any
00:35organization isn't that normally how you operate you clean out people that don't have the same
00:39beliefs as you because a lot of the time you just want to do things your way i thought it was a great
00:44i thought it was a great move when patino fired red i thought that was a smart thing to do
00:48i'm not saying it's always smart curtis but that's nine times correct me if i'm wrong but nine times
00:54out of ten when new leadership enters any company or organization in the world they generally want
00:59their people in charge and not people from previous regimes and the guy that he fired uh no disrespect
01:04to him but uh i don't think he's on the same level as red albach the guy was like oh uh breslow's
01:10an effing stiff so and i'm with shine you see it all the time we wanted vrabel to do it he's like
01:15vrabel hey man get rid of uh elliot wolf like come on get your guys in and we do it all the time
01:22what is craig breslow's vision what what is he looking to do how what what does he do well what
01:27do you believe in him how does he how does he operate because i know how vrabel does it i can
01:31tell you how mayo did it i have an idea what's what's because they had done it before curtis
01:36and craig breslow is not wiggy like that's the i mean that's the argument but this is his first time
01:41everybody who gets in there for their first time has never done it before so anybody we we talked
01:47about that with mayo right any first time coach they have no track record of doing it before so
01:54it's not you can't say well what has breslow done in the i had a pretty good idea of how vrabel would
01:58coach the titans and he had never was an nfl coach before you did yeah i mean we all i mean he's a guy
02:03that demands accountability he's a smart guy he can get in your face he's someone that's going to be
02:08hands-on he's going to be a players type coach but keep keep players accountable that's gonna be
02:12working in nfl front office because i mean i i i you know i never know how a guy's gonna be
02:18right we we especially when it's their first time doing things and i and whatever breslow's doing
02:24and i i think what is most glaring is his reliance upon the driveline people the sportronics whatever
02:37whatever whatever they're that organization calls themselves and the fact that the baseball people
02:43wiggie are kind of quiet have either been uh they've either parted ways with them or their role has been
02:51diminished right well shime said he wants his own people in there no he hates people he wants robots well
02:56he wants his own robots if you need a lift of worcester please call driveline
03:00that he can come in and has his own way of thinking that was a reasonably good bit that was a good one
03:09but that's the issue i like that's and and by the way that's the issue between he and alex cora
03:21also which i i think exists right right about that that's the biggest problem yeah in the the way in
03:27which he's telling cora because so cora makes more than he does i'm positive yeah so cora's there and
03:35cora's job according to breslow is to just synthesize statistical data in real time and do what he says
03:41remove independent thought don't use intuition use this equation that to me has never won on any level
03:50in major league baseball yet this is also why breslow was the 10th guy they interviewed or 15th whatever it
03:56was because they knew they weren't going to be adding more payroll so you were going to be the
04:00fall guy for whatever this happened this is steve from fall river hello steve this is some you know
04:09what else i heard that i called it said it was a comedy hour somehow greg craig breslow is is uh
04:15diminishing the uh aptitude of the page of the of uh red sox nation he doesn't know who he's talking
04:23to who does he think we are blah blah blah how about how about he's coming in and he's finishing
04:30the master plan the red sox put in place now if it's lowering the payroll and not having bad salary
04:37that's the plan i've been saying this for years they have a plan we don't like it now do we now to the
04:44baseball guys did they want to re-up bogots and this guy devis would that have made everybody happy
04:51remember they came in last place with those two guys on the roster yeah uh i asked i asked some
04:57friends i said you know this machine that said that the devis trade was upside down or was a bad trade
05:02let's assume that's a good machine craig greg what's it going to say about the last five years of the
05:09devis contract in the last five years of the bogots contract it's going to probably throw up if a
05:15machine could throw up that is just bad garbage right there we got rid of garbage but yet over
05:23the weekend in the piece that jeff passan wrote he talks about how most of major league baseball
05:28looks at this like a great deal for the red sox and rich and so do i so if i'm with major league
05:36baseball i'm proud to stand with it i think it's i i think it's fantastic i think it's it's there's so
05:43many more benefits and and and and and and objectively benefits never mind that he was a
05:49selfish player he's poisoned people's heads they have flexibility to use this money going forward
05:56oh because they didn't have money wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute they're 20th in payroll
06:02there so you'll feel better so you'll be feel better if they just light it on fire let's get another
06:07let's get a let's get another uh vander bogots 330 million let's just throw money at people and
06:15everybody feels good when they have when they're underwater because they have bad contracts
06:20is this they have the parents they have young players under their control i do have a friend
06:27from college by the way who has a son that works for the red sox and i think i'm looking for some
06:32remuneration because i've been like a pr guy for these people and i think i can even say the case
06:37better than sam kennedy if he's listening he comes on and he wants to like make nice with the red sox
06:43fans no don't make nice uh if frank i'm gonna ask you one more thing you're you have to go by what
06:50your audience does whatever plays for your audience you have to do it and to some extent the red sox have
06:57to do it but do you want them to follow a bonafide plan they believe in or do you want them to make
07:03moves that assuage red sox steve they signed him million dollar deal and all of a sudden they hate
07:12him what is the plan well let me ask you a question no i'm asking you what's the plan
07:17that was done to assuage red sox nation because they didn't sign bogots and then they may have signed
07:25the the the the car by the way for the same freaking reason so then what's the plan the plan is what
07:33you're seeing now all the young guys are up all the young guys are up that they didn't trade at the
07:40deadline a few years ago like everybody wanted they got garrett crochet because they were drafting well
07:47and stockpiling picks they got nevaez and now they got the young guys up yeah they got so they're the
07:55new tampa bay race they've got they've got enough prospects for three major league teams of which
08:00breslau has had nothing to do with any of these guys they were all heim bloom there is an argument
08:05on the text line that getting rid of some of these guys who have been here over the last five years
08:13is a good move when you look at the results that they have had yeah i don't want anybody connected
08:19to dave dombrowski probably the best gm in baseball rich and adam i think did it the best i was listening
08:26to them uh friday and they talked about like all right the moves on the breslau craig so now you can
08:34kind of like actually see what breslau has been able to do like what moves he made signings trades that
08:41kind of thing and i can't remember all the things that they had and then they try to grade him on that
08:45so i would think that um and i heard somebody talking about this on social media one of these
08:50mlb experts and they were like basically what the red sox wanted was a guy who wasn't buying into the
08:56system who was getting paid a lot of money who wasn't being a leader and they wanted to move on
09:02from that guy and basically try to figure out all right we want to make a clubhouse that the young
09:10guys and players can all be on the same page and we couldn't find alignment oh darn yeah willing to
09:17be on the same page it wasn't they're seeking alignment
