00:00Well, Greg, I know Wiggy was amped up about the Boston Red Sox trading for Garrett Crochet,

00:05a step in the right direction. Maybe didn't sign a big free agent yet, didn't actually spend cash,

00:09but they spent prospects. Curtis is not happy because they haven't spent money yet. And I

00:14understand that, but this is a big deal. Like this is a, this is, as I said earlier, this is

00:20the golden dong that was available for you when it comes to an ace and you got them. Yeah. And

00:25he's only 25. Um, and so you got them for two years, short money. Like it's, you know, if you

00:32get, if you can get burns and you can spend that money, right. Then you are going to win the

00:38division. You know, there's a lot of things that you could still do, which I still think they're

00:44gonna do because like you said, the trade is great, but there's still, they still, it seems

00:49like, all right, there's pieces out there in free agency that could obviously help you. Yeah.

00:54Well, uh, with the, uh, Garrett crochet trade, we heard from Craig Breslow and how excited he is

01:00to bring crochet to Boston. I feel like we got a legitimate number one starter in, in Garrett,

01:07um, left-handed ton of swing and miss, uh, you know, massive strikeouts and feel like, um, the

01:14best is still in front of them. Uh, so, you know, we're excited about what he brings and, and

01:20obviously, uh, you know, we needed to trade really good players in order to be able to do this,

01:24but, uh, that's, that's the cost right now. Um, you know, and, and we're very much focused on

01:29what we were able to get, uh, you know, the, the excitement, um, that we have around adding

01:34him to the rotation. Uh, you know, it adds depth, it adds quality, uh, you know, bona fide, uh,

01:40ace, um, you know, and, and someone like that, like I said, that we feel, um, you know, is going

01:46to continue to improve, really excited about getting him into our pitching infrastructure,

01:51getting a chance for him to work with Bales, uh, you know, and winning a bunch of games at Fenway

01:55Park for us. When it comes to having the prospects to do a deal like this, Curtis, you mentioned

02:01Heinblum, but do you, do you give some credit to Dave Dombrowski too? Yeah, I think, listen,

02:06this is a great, yesterday was a great day. I'm happy Wiggy's right. I think that they're

02:10making the right decisions. This is obviously people that know far more about baseball than

02:15I do like the move. I'm just saying, if you're going to have $700 million sitting on the table

02:20that Juan Soto doesn't take, there are a lot of guys out there right now that you could spend it

02:25on and get your team in the playoffs. Yeah. And I think they still have to do that. Like, I think

02:29everybody's happy with the move, but there are, it looks like you, well, some, uh, some are whining

02:34about the move because you gave up prospects and they're calling him a rental. I like a rental is

02:41a half a season guy in my mind, not a two year guy, but that people are like, you could still

02:46sign him to a long term deal. What is a rental? Are they going to be willing to pay? We're going

02:51to be back at that point point again with this team. But what does a rental generally mean when

02:56teams go and get rentals? Well, I think it generally means it's till the end of the season.

03:01It's at trade deadline time. No, no. But what's their thought process when they go get rentals?

03:07When, when, so if you're going to get a rental and you're thinking of winning, and that means

03:15who you should still be in the market of signing guys that can help you win now, whether that is

03:22like a Bregman or a curb and burns where it's like, Oh, we now have a rental that can help us

03:29to legitimate ACEs. We might lose one because he is a rental, but we still have the other guy,

03:34but it gives us the best chance to win. Now. I also think it's beneficial that this guy is a

03:38pitcher because as you notice with like the max free deal, pitching contracts are out of control

03:43in the same way that hitter contracts are with the Juan Soto deal. So I think they'd probably

03:48be much more willing to swallow a big pitcher contract than they would be for 700 million

03:53for Juan Soto. But I would say that freed just signed the biggest deal of any left-hander in

03:58the history of baseball and baseball. So it wasn't pretty big deal. No, I know it's a big deal,

04:02but I mean, comparatively, yeah, but compared to Juan Soto, it's, you know, it's what a third

04:06of the price. Well, Greg is a big deal too. I mean, that's true. All right. What's next?

04:11Well, we can actually hear from Juan Soto's agent and the agent of many baseball players,

04:15Scott Boris at the, uh, winter meetings talking about how players view the Red Sox and their

04:22interest in the current free agent market. I have ownerships directly involved and, uh,

04:29you know, Brez has been certainly, uh, out to visit me a lot and, uh, uh, their direction

04:36and hope I think is registered. Uh, I think the results of are more hopeful than what's

04:42happened to date, but obviously they're, they're certainly a part of the, uh, process is the Boston

04:48Red Sox. And I think, uh, a lot of players covet value that market and, uh, they, uh,

04:55they have an opportunity to be very successful. Okay. Well, we'll find out if the money is there

05:01and there's no reluctance on the part of players to come to the organization for whatever reason,

05:08then they ought to be able to get one of these deals or maybe two of them done.

05:12And I don't think it seems like it just like following the sports, I feel like baseball

05:18and hockey, it, it's really like guys don't look at Boston, like, Oh, I wouldn't want to go there

05:25and play. Like you, you know what I'm saying? Like we're in football and basketball. You always

05:29lean, see like, you know, uh, Boston's not a huge destination for these guys, like for whatever the

05:36reasons are. But I feel like in baseball and hockey, I think free agents are like, all right.

05:42Well, what do you mean by that? I mean, they want to go somewhere where they have a chance of

05:45winning, right? If the, if the money is equal, they want to go somewhere. They have a chance of

05:49winning next. Right. But we always get, you always get into the nightlife thing. I get into those

05:54elements of it because it's part of the conversation. When we start to talk about

06:00just living experiences and all those things, it seems like anytime we talk football and basketball,

06:07it becomes maybe Boston. Isn't the best destination for athletes. Like they don't

06:14necessarily want to go there. We don't really go down that road and, uh, baseball and hockey.

06:19That's because in the NFL and the NBA, it's pretty locked in what players are going to get. So it's

06:26like, there's a cap in the NFL where players are going to go to a relatively the same amount of

06:30money for each team. So it's about winning early. Your career is not as long in basketball.

06:34It's all about the same money. So you're easily able to pick where you want to go. It's not like

06:39the Lakers can offer something that the Clippers can't. Yeah. I mean, I could see that being,

06:45I guess, a factor when it comes to the Patriots, because if you want to live in the city,

06:51then you got to drive out to Foxboro all the time. I don't think it's an issue with the Red Sox.

06:56But look where guys sign in Green Bay. I mean, it's not like Green Bay is some like metropolis.

07:01I think it's, I mean, I get it. You would know better, but I just think it's far down on the

07:07list. Money being number one. Oh yeah. Chance to win being number two. I agree with you. I mean,

07:12Vaughn Miller is in Buffalo right now. Not exactly a hotbed of fun. No, I, Greg, I'll always lean

07:19towards money first and then, you know, that being the most important thing and then winning

07:24second. And then I'm just saying, it's just really a conversation we don't have in the other two

07:30sports. Yeah. Well, I think if the, listen, if the money is there, then they should be,

07:36and they want to spend it, which will be the question, the question that Curtis is asking,

07:40then they should be able to go out and get somebody. I should hope. All right. That is,
