KD is being dealt to the Rockets. Are they the team to beat next year in the West? \ Scheim: "I think it is imperative that the Celtics at least listen to offers for Jaylen Brown"
00:00After seeing the Kevin Durant trade where the Phoenix Suns acquired a good little player in Jalen Green, who's only 23 years old, a role player in Dylan Brooks, the number 10 overall pick, and then five second round picks, I think it is imperative that the Celtics at least listen to offers for Jalen Brown.
00:18I understand that Kevin Durant is much older than Jalen Brown, but the benefit of Durant is that his contract expires after next year, so he becomes a free agent again, and you don't have to worry about paying him long term, whereas Jalen Brown still has, I think, three or four years left on his deal, so you would have to pay him that 50-plus into the $60 million range over the next four or five years.
00:39But again, younger player in much better shape, way more in his prime than a guy like Kevin Durant, so just seeing what the return for Durant was, knowing Jason Tatum is likely out until basically next year's playoffs, you have to at least listen.
00:55And I know it was a big thing with Shams last week that the Celtics were going to get thrown crazy offers at them. They can't just willy-nilly deny all of them. They have to at least listen, because if someone is going to blow you away with an offer, you have to be willing to accept it.
01:10And I think you're going to get blown away. Not only do you talk about the Kevin Durant trade, but I think it might have been last week, the Desmond Bain.
01:17Yes.
01:17They gave up four first-round picks for him. They gave up five last year. It was the Knicks who gave up five first-round picks for Mikael Bridges, so the amount of what you could potentially get back for a guy like Jalen Brown is way more than those guys, but I'm kind of with Courtney on this one.
01:39If you're going to trade Jalen Brown, and I'm not sure if you are on the same page, I want an already established all-star caliber player similar to him. I don't care about no five draft picks.
01:52Well, and can you just, for the 90th time, explain that to all of us, how that works when it comes to the trade and the salaries needing to be in a similar realm? Can you explain that to me?
02:06So, salaries don't have to perfectly match, but there has to be a balance. I'm not as fluent in NBA cap as I may be in NFL cap, but...
02:17Well, Curtis is. Yeah, there's an algorithm. You've got to carry the two divided by pi.
02:22All right. Well, Rich was telling me, Rich and Adam...
02:24Can any of Craig Breslow's AI, like artificial intelligence instruments, inform us on how that works?
02:32Yeah, probably.
02:32Probably so.
02:33Thought partners.
02:34But no, Rich and Adam Jones, they're big basketball guys, and they know...
02:38They said that, excuse me, you'd only have to take back about 20 or 30% of the salary.
02:43So there is ways around the money not having to add up like people think it is.
02:49A texter says that return on KD when the contract is expiring is crazy.
