00:03and the riders must lap it six times.

00:06Here the competitors are practicing and getting used to the course.

00:09Now they're down to serious business.

00:11There are half a dozen hump bridges on the course

00:13and this one at Ballor demands first class riding skill

00:16to negotiate the right hand bend immediately after landing.

00:20This is the junior TT race, won by Hartle, number 12.

00:24Ramsey is the island's second largest town

00:26and the course leads through Parliament Square.

00:30Round the course again to Braddon Bridge.

00:43This section demands rapid acceleration in low gears

00:46and is a great test of skill.

00:52At the end of Salby Strait,

00:54world champion John Surtees breaks hard to negotiate the bridge.

00:58Others are hot on his tail.

01:04Now it's time for the senior event.

01:06For machines of up to 500cc,

01:09Surtees is out to avenge his defeat by Hartle in the junior event.

01:35The leaders gather speed as they tear towards Braddon Bridge

01:46with its demands of low gear work and rapid acceleration.

01:48Coming down the hill at Kregnabar,

02:00the riders must brake hard to reduce speed from 140 to below 40.

02:05miles per hour for the right-angled corner.

02:20Seven miles gone at the last lap and they come to the fast corner at Balakrain and then onto Balak Bridge.

02:22For 226 miles, they've been battling it out over the zig-zag mountain course, climbing to 1,400 feet and dropping down again to sea level.

02:39For 30 miles of the course, they've had their brakes hard on, yet the winner's average speed is 102.44 miles per hour.

02:56And John Surtees is winner of the TT senior event for the third time in succession.

03:01300 riders during practice and races covered 100,000 miles over this mountainous course at speeds reaching 140 miles per hour.

03:09And yet there wasn't one serious accident.
