00:30Welcome to Countdown this afternoon, Friday afternoon, the last one of the week.
00:35And another chance, Rach, for me to get through another one in the pile of jumpers knitted by viewers.
00:41Something we mentioned just in passing and a ridiculous response.
00:44I love because you have to kind of guess the size, don't you, really?
00:48So this one's slightly, slightly big for me, but I love that down here.
00:54It's the type of thing I'll wear in the winter to keep me all cosy.
00:56I'll take this one home.
00:58Lovely Countdown logo.
00:59A lot of people are going for the Countdown blue, which is great.
01:02But this is from Susan White.
01:04Thank you, Susan.
01:06A huge Countdown fan.
01:08And she says, I'm not really a nether, I'll have a go.
01:10She did a great job.
01:11I think the only problem is we either need to get you a booster seat or we're going to have to encourage our viewers to do it more kind of round the boob area.
01:17Yeah.
01:18Because we can't see it there.
01:19Stand up, Colin.
01:20Well, OK.
01:20I'll give us that.
01:21There you go.
01:21Hey.
01:22There we go.
01:23Look at that.
01:23Isn't that lovely?
01:23It's full glory.
01:24Excellent stuff.
01:25But listen, I'm not discouraging people from sending jumpers in, but it was lovely that we got so many.
01:31That's a knitted dress, isn't it?
01:34Probably knitted crochet.
01:35I still don't know the difference between knitting and crocheting.
01:37Yeah.
01:37Don't ask Susie.
01:38OK.
01:39Well, Countdown Army, there's the real challenge for you.
01:42I want to see a fully knitted Rachel Riley Countdown dress.
01:48That would be the dream.
01:50Five foot seven.
01:52She's five foot seven.
01:54She's Countdown Heaven, to paraphrase a football song.
01:57I would love that to happen.
01:59Right.
01:59Last show of the week, we'll make it a good one.
02:01And it will be, of course, because Susie Dent in Dictionary Corner, keeping everything above board,
02:05making sure there's no drop stitches.
02:07And a last appearance this week, of course, for the radio presenter, Rick Edwards.
02:15And a champion looking for four in a row.
02:17We met Talha on Tuesday when you stopped Rach becoming an octo champ.
02:23And you've heard fairly well so far.
02:25Now, you're an impressive young man.
02:27I know you do quite a bit of charitable stuff and volunteering.
02:31What's some of the stuff you've been doing?
02:32I think my first experience with volunteering was at Age UK, and I worked at their restaurant.
02:39So basically, I was the floor staff.
02:42It was partly work experience as well, because I never worked before and I needed jobs.
02:47Because as a uni student, it is quite hard.
02:50That's brilliant.
02:51Great use of your time.
02:53Bit of fun, bit of work, helping others.
02:55Very good indeed, Talha, but the charity ends there.
02:59You've got to be clinical today against Dan O'Loughlin, who obviously, despite living in Surrey and his strong accent, must be Irish, right?
03:07Yeah, granddad's Irish, yeah.
03:08There you go.
03:09The good part of you is Irish.
03:10That's the key part.
03:12Well, listen, you work in motors, selling the cars.
03:15But you read autobiography after autobiography.
03:20I find that interesting, because, you know, it's each to their own taste.
03:23I hate autobiographies.
03:24You know, I try and avoid them like the plague, you know?
03:27There's the all-good one, though.
03:28When you get a good one, it's great.
03:29What are your favourites?
03:30So I've got AP McCoy, who's the horse racing jockey.
03:35Then the other two that are probably my key favourites were Mika Richards, obviously great sports personality on the TV, so it's also quite interesting reading that.
03:44But James Milner was probably my favourite autobiography.
03:47He used to be one of my favourite footballers growing up.
03:49Normally, everyone likes the Ronaldos or the Messis.
03:52Me, it was James Milner.
03:53I'd have an England top with Milner on the back of it.
03:55So, yeah, that's probably one of my favourites of the lot.
03:59Yeah, I've interviewed AP McCoy about that autobiography, so I've read that cover to cover.
04:03It's absolutely brilliant.
04:05OK, Dan and Talha, good luck.
04:09First, let us round champ.
04:11Hi, Rachel.
04:12Can we start with a consonant, please?
04:14Thank you, Talha.
04:14Start today with R.

04:42Let's play Kind Kind.
04:43www.cec.com.
04:54www.cec.com.
04:56Tala? A seven.
05:15And Dan? A seven.
05:17Yes? A trainer.
05:18Trainer? Urinate.
05:20A urinate. Two very different words.
05:22Yes.
05:22Dictionary corner to Susie and to Rick.
05:25I can't beat seven, I don't think.
05:27Terrain.
05:29Yeah, runnier.
05:31OK, so nothing about seven?
05:32No, ruination.
05:33I mean, loads of sevens in there, but we couldn't find anything more.
05:35When are we getting the dent autobiography?
05:38Never.
05:40Coincidental would be a good name for it.
05:42Setting a president would be quite good.
05:45Undented.
05:46That's a really good one.
05:46I like that one.
05:47Tell all.
05:48All the countdown secrets in there.
05:50Never going to happen.
05:51Oh, it'll be a million seller.
05:52You should do it.
05:53You should do it.
05:55Dan, your first letters.
05:56Start with a consonant, please.
05:58Thank you, Dan.
06:00D.
06:01And a vowel.
06:03O.
06:04A consonant.
06:05P.
06:07A vowel.
06:09A.
06:10A consonant.
06:12D.
06:13Another consonant.
06:15S.
06:16A vowel.
06:18E.
06:19A consonant.
06:20A consonant.
06:22L.
06:23And a final consonant, please.
06:25A final P.
06:26And 30 seconds.
06:27We'll be right next time.
06:48Bye.
06:49How did you get on, Dan?
06:59Seven.
07:00Good start. And Talha?
07:01Seven as well.
07:02Seven as well. Interesting. Dan?
07:04Slapped.
07:05Slapped?
07:05Yep, slapped.
07:06And slapped as well.
07:08All right, we'll slap on seven points each and head to Dictionary Corner.
07:11Have we got an eight this time?
07:12Don't think so. We have paddles, slopped, but, yeah, no improvement on seven.
07:16Thank you very much.
07:1714 points each. First numbers round, Mr Modak.
07:21Can I get two large, please?
07:23You can indeed. Two from the top row, four from the other little ones.
07:28And the first numbers of the day, one, four, eight, five.
07:33And the large one's 125.
07:36And you need to reach 886.
07:39886 numbers up.
07:47Big target, 886. Did you manage it?
08:14884.
08:15OK, two away. Will it get you seven points? Dan?
08:18884, but not written down.
08:19You'll go first, Dan.
08:21Yep, so that's 8 plus 1 is 9.
08:238 plus 1 is 9.
08:26Times by 100.
08:27900.
08:28Then it was minus 25.
08:32875.
08:32And then it was plus the 5 and the 4.
08:36The 5 and the 4.
08:378, 8, 4, two away.
08:38Good. And Talha, you wrote yours down.
08:41Yeah, nice one.
08:42And it doesn't matter either way.
08:43Seven points each.
08:44Can we get to 886, Riley?
08:47Nope.
08:47This was impossible.
08:48You could get one closer, but that's it.
08:50Very good.
08:51First tea time teaser this Friday afternoon is his paper.
08:55His paper.
08:55It comes in blue, this classical gem.
08:58It comes in blue, this classical gem.
09:16Hello again.
09:18It comes in blue, this classical gem.
09:20His paper becomes sapphire.
09:21Sapphire, sapphire.
09:23Diamond of a show so far.
09:2421 points each.
09:26And Dan the man, you're up.
09:28Consonant, please, Rachel.
09:30Thank you, Dan.
09:31J.
09:32Vowel.
09:34U.
09:35Another vowel.
09:37E.
09:38Consonant.
09:40C.
09:41Vowel.
09:43O.
09:44Consonant.
09:45P.
09:46Another consonant, please.
09:48R.
09:50Consonant.
09:50D.
09:52And a final vowel, please.
09:54And a final E.
09:56Thanks, Rich.
09:57Thanks, Rich.
09:57We'll see you next time.
10:00.
10:28Done?
10:29Seven.
10:30And Talha?
10:31Seven as well.
10:32Go ahead, Dan.
10:33Produce.
10:34Same word as well.
10:35Lovely.
10:36Right, anything better?
10:37Yeah, I think so.
10:38Recouped.
10:39For eight.
10:40Yeah, recouped for eight.
10:41Let's pop that in there.
10:42Nice.
10:4328 points all night.
10:44Let's just keep this going, Talha.
10:46Can I have a consonant, please?
10:48Thank you, Talha.
10:49V.
10:50Another one.
10:51L.
10:52Another one.
10:54S.
10:55Another one.
10:56D.
10:57A vowel.
10:58I.
10:59Another one.
11:00U.
11:01Another one.
11:02E.
11:03A consonant.
11:04S.
11:05And a final consonant, please.
11:07A final K.
11:08Half a minute.
11:09.
11:19.
11:20Talha.
11:21Just a six.
11:22And Dan?
11:23Yeah, just a six as well.
11:24There you go.
11:25Sulked.
11:26Yep, same word.
11:27Same again.
11:28Sulked.
11:29Uh, yeah.
11:30A couple of other sixes.
11:31Devils.
11:32Sidals.
11:33And then maybe a slightly weird seven.
11:34Yes, sulkies.
11:35So this isn't a sulking fit.
11:51I'm not quite sure why it's so cool, but it was a light fit.
11:52Devils, Sidles, and then maybe a slightly weird seven?
11:57Yes, Sulkies.
11:59So this isn't a sulking fit.
12:02I'm not quite sure why it's so cool, but it was a light, two-wheeled,
12:05horse-drawn vehicle for one person.
12:07Not quite sure why that would make you sulky,
12:09although it's used in trotting races, so you might have a sore bottom
12:12at the end of it. Yeah, maybe.
12:14Right, more numbers.
12:15And, Dan, you're picking for the first time.
12:17Two large, four small, please.
12:19Thank you, Dan. Two from the top, four from the bottom.
12:21And the four small ones this time around are eight, six, nine, three,
12:2825 and 50.
12:30And the target to reach? 770.
12:33770. Numbers up.
12:51770. The target, Dan?
13:08Only 772.
13:09Two away, Talha? 770.
13:12Yeah, you couldn't wait to tell me there. Very excited. Off we go.
13:15Six plus nine is 15.
13:17It is.
13:18Times 50.
13:19750.
13:20Add the 25.
13:21775.
13:22And then add the...
13:24Add the three and then take away the eight.
13:26Yeah.
13:28Lovely.
13:29Good.
13:30APPLAUSE
13:32First lead of the day for Talhaas.
13:36We head over to Dictionary Corner.
13:38Rick Edwards.
13:39Yes.
13:40Who used AI yesterday.
13:42Uh-huh.
13:43With great success.
13:44Yeah.
13:45What about today?
13:46So, I want to talk about something that I'd kind of vaguely noticed
13:50and then I read a really interesting article about,
13:52which is that everything is starting to look the same.
13:56And this isn't just because I'm getting old,
13:58but basically the design of everything, everywhere that you look,
14:02is sort of converging, so everything's quite boring.
14:05So, cars all look the same.
14:07So, because they're all, like, modelled in the same wind tunnels,
14:10there's kind of parameters and so the designers haven't got much rigol room.
14:13So, all cars look the same.
14:14They're all the same colour.
14:16This you've probably noticed.
14:17So, in, like, the 80s, cars were all sorts of colours.
14:19It was quite sort of bright.
14:20Now, everything is black, grey and white.
14:23You'll be able to... Is that true, Dan?
14:25Mostly, yeah.
14:26Yeah, it's mad.
14:27Like, it's just entirely sort of monotonous, monochrome.
14:30Every, like, coffee shop, sort of independent coffee shop,
14:33looks the same, even though they're independent.
14:36Every office looks the same.
14:37All buildings look the same.
14:38Logos have all been stripped back to look the same.
14:40And, fundamentally, it's just, like, really, really,
14:43dull and it's been really winding me out.
14:45And I don't know what you can do about it, other than hope that people innovate.
14:48But also, the lack of independent local businesses...
14:52It doesn't help, yeah.
14:53..being replaced with chains means a lot of village centres of villages,
14:57more centres of small towns.
14:58Yeah.
14:59You could take a snapshot of a few and go, well, you've got that brand
15:02and that brand.
15:03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:04Which one's which, you know?
15:05When you take a photo of a city by water, they all look the same.
15:09Like, everything's kind of losing unique identity.
15:12I think it's quite...
15:13I don't know if there's anything you can do about it at all, but...
15:15Yeah.
15:16..it's quite sort of weird, isn't it?
15:17Weird observation.
15:18And when you've noticed it, you keep noticing it in...
15:20Yeah.
15:21..like, across everything.
15:22It's like film posters.
15:23Yeah, it's true.
15:24A lot of things are the same.
15:25But I wonder, do people just have the same complaints in the 70s
15:27and the same complaints in the 60s?
15:28We may just be getting a bit grumpy.
15:30Maybe it's a trend.
15:31Yeah, I mean, yeah, that's definitely a possibility.
15:33Yeah.
15:34It's a probability.
15:35Upgraded probability.
15:36Yeah, OK, fine.
15:37Thanks, Rick.
15:38APPLAUSE
15:40Talha, back to the letters.
15:43Can I have a consonant, please, Rachel?
15:45Thank you, Talha.
15:46T.
15:47Another one.
15:48G.
15:49Another one.
15:51N.
15:52Another one.
15:53T.
15:54Can I have a vowel, please?
15:55I.
15:56Another one.
15:57O.
15:58A third.
15:59E.
16:00A consonant.
16:01H.
16:02And a final consonant, please.
16:04A final F.
16:06And here we go.
16:08Again.
16:25Gmail, okay, you're incredible.
16:31Tala?
16:38Er, I've gone completely blank.
16:40Oh, my goodness, Dan.
16:42Risky seven.
16:43The seven is?
16:44Hotting.
16:45Things are hotting up, that will not be risky.
16:47It's not, and it's also joyriding.
16:50Is it?
16:51Yes.
16:52Yeah, in stolen high-performance cars.
16:54Strange.
16:55But also in the sense that you say things are hotting up.
16:57Cool.
16:58Anything else in there?
16:59Er...
17:00Let's go hotting tonight.
17:01Tonight.
17:02Oh, tonight is in there.
17:03OK, let's go.
17:04Is that an offer?
17:05Is that an offer?
17:06Yeah, why not?
17:07Let's do it.
17:08Let's throw away our careers.
17:09Black, grey or white car and go hotting.
17:11OK, more letters now.
17:13Dan, you're choosing.
17:14Er, consonant, please.
17:15Thank you, Dan.
17:16Q.
17:17Er, vowel, please.
17:19O.
17:20Er, another vowel.
17:22E.
17:23Consonant.
17:25R.
17:26Er, another consonant.
17:28F.
17:29Vowel.
17:30I.
17:31Consonant.
17:32G.
17:33Another consonant.
17:34N.
17:35And a final consonant, please.
17:36And a final C.
17:37And start the clock.
17:38The clock.
17:39The clock.
17:40The clock.
17:41The clock.
17:42The clock.
17:43The clock.
17:44The clock.
17:46The clock.
17:48The clock.
17:49Talk to me, Dan.
18:15Just a six.
18:16A six and a talha?
18:17A seven.
18:18And let's look back in the saddle.
18:19Dan, what's the six?
18:20Cringe.
18:21And the seven?
18:21Forcing.
18:22And forcing is there, using the ING for the seven.
18:27That means you get back to your ten-point lead.
18:30And dictionary corner?
18:31No advance on seven.
18:32Foreign, conifer.
18:33Yeah.
18:34That's about it.
18:35The Q scuppered anything better in that round.
18:38So let's switch back to the numbers.
18:40And Talha, it's your choice.
18:41Can I get three large, please?
18:43You can indeed.
18:44Three large, three little.
18:46And hopefully something interesting.
18:48I keep saying that.
18:49I keep having a few easy ones.
18:50Let's have a look.
18:51This election is three, ten, eight, 75, 100 and 50.
18:58And your target?
19:00863.
19:01863.
19:02Numbers up.
19:02I keep Harris.
19:04853.
19:04Täna.
19:05853.
19:05Andyeah.

19:12How?
19:13So do you.
19:14So do you?
19:16We want to go.
19:16Let's go.
19:17We need to go.
19:19I'll see.
19:20All the way.
19:24We can also.
19:25We're here.
19:26We're coming.
19:27We're coming.
19:28Those are all.
19:29persist.
19:30Goodly.
19:30We're coming.
19:31We're not.
19:31It's going.
19:318-6-3, Talha.
19:348-6-2.
19:36Good enough. One away, Dan.
19:378-6-2 as well.
19:38Well done. Both written down?
19:39No, not mine.
19:40Oh, there you go, Talha. Don't you be an olly boy around here.
19:43Right, you need to go first, Dan.
19:44Yeah.
19:45100 times 8.
19:47100 times 8, 800.
19:49Plus 75.
19:518-7-5.
19:52And then add the 10.
19:54Sorry, take away the 10.
19:556-5.
19:56And then take away the 3.
19:588, yeah, one below.
20:00Danny boy.
20:01Exactly the same way.
20:02Yeah.
20:02But written down.
20:03Yeah.
20:04Written down, thank you for that.
20:06And for being transparent about it.
20:08Got my eye on you now, Mr Modak.
20:11Oh, Rick.
20:12I love, I love it, I love it.
20:14Because you're literally the second most annoying dexterity corner guest in history when it comes to the numbers after me.
20:21Yeah.
20:21That's why I love it.
20:23What are you, because we are the two plaguers, aren't we?
20:25We got it, we got it.
20:26Well, I think everyone might kick themselves for having missed this.
20:29Sort of, yeah, so 8 times 100.
20:328 times 100.
20:33Plus 50, plus 10, plus 3.
20:35Yeah, this was a bit of a...
20:36So, I mean...
20:38There we go, that was all that was.
20:39I don't want to say you've embarrassed yourselves that far.
20:43Right, Tea Time Teaser's a bit of deja vu.
20:46It's posh yard, posh yard.
20:49Different answer, same clue as our first Tea Time Teaser.
20:52It comes in blue, this classical gem.
20:54It comes in blue, this classical gem.
20:56Welcome back.
21:12Think Gershwin, think Rhapsody in blue.
21:15It comes in blue, this classical gem.
21:17Rhapsody was your answer.
21:19Second different answer to the same clue.
21:22Right, we still haven't worked out who's going to win today's countdown.
21:24There's just those 10 points in it.
21:26So, our three-time champion is under a bit of pressure.
21:28And that's all coming from Dan, and it's your letters.
21:31Consonant, please.
21:32Thank you, Dan.
21:33T.
21:34Vowel.
21:36E.
21:37Consonant.
21:39G.
21:40Vowel.
21:42I.
21:43Consonant.
21:45R.
21:46Consonant.
21:48N.
21:49Vowel.
21:50Vowel.
21:51O.
21:52Consonant.
21:54R.
21:55And a final consonant, please.
21:57Final P.
21:59Kind time.
21:59So, we'll be back to it.
21:59I.
22:00I.
22:03I.
22:04I.
22:06That will do us, Dan.
22:32A seven not written down.
22:34And Talha?
22:34A seven written down.
22:35Dan?
22:35Porting?
22:37Yep, same word.
22:37Same word.
22:38Two portings?
22:40Yes, to turn a ship to port.
22:42Yeah.
22:43Yep, it's to port it.
22:44The E-R, the I-E-R, the I-N-G couldn't get down there.
22:47I think Dan's just realised that he could have used the R-E there.
22:51Oh, my goodness.
22:52Yeah, yeah.
22:53And Talha as well.
22:55Yeah.
22:55Slapping the wrist.
22:56But, yeah, the report is not good.
22:58Yeah.
22:59For both of you.
23:00Yeah.
23:00Or portering.
23:02Yeah.
23:02Keep rubbing it in there, Rick.
23:03Yeah.
23:04There's a couple there.
23:05At least the numbers was good.
23:08Yeah.
23:08So less seven points gained and 18 points lost.
23:11I would say so, yeah.
23:12So it's definitely summed up that way.
23:13It was definitely a loss rather than a win for both Talha and Dan.
23:17Extremely disappointing.
23:19Someone say round the afternoon.
23:20More letters.
23:21Talha?
23:21Can I start with a consonant, please?
23:23You can indeed.
23:24T.
23:24Another one.
23:26X.
23:27Another one.
23:28W.
23:29Another one.
23:31T.
23:32Er, vowel.
23:33A.
23:34A consonant.
23:36N.
23:37Er, vowel.
23:39E.
23:40Er, vowel again.
23:42I.
23:43And a final consonant, please.
23:45And a final T.
23:47Good luck, everybody.
23:48Good luck, everybody.
23:49Good luck, everybody.
23:49Good luck, everybody.
23:50Good luck, everybody.
23:51Good luck, everybody.
23:51Good luck, everybody.
23:52Good luck, everybody.
23:52Good luck, everybody.
23:53Good luck, everybody.
23:53Good luck, everybody.
23:54Good luck, everybody.
23:54Good luck, everybody.
23:55Good luck, everybody.
23:56Good luck, everybody.
23:57Good luck, everybody.
23:58Good luck, everybody.
23:59Good luck, everybody.
24:00Good luck, everybody.
24:01Good luck, everybody.
24:02Good luck, everybody.
24:03Good luck, everybody.
24:04Good luck, everybody.
24:05Good luck, everybody.
24:06Good luck, everybody.
24:07Good luck, everybody.
24:08Good luck, everybody.
24:09Good luck, everybody.
24:10Good luck, everybody.
24:11Good luck, everybody.
24:12Good luck, everybody.
24:13Good luck, everybody.
24:14That's your lot.
24:21Just a four.
24:22The four, and Dan?
24:23Five.
24:24And a five.
24:24The four is?
24:25One.
24:26And the five?
24:27Taint.
24:28Taint.
24:29Yep.
24:29Taint is there.
24:31It brings you within five points.
24:34Rick?
24:35Yeah, not much, though.
24:36I think there's a couple of sixes, though.
24:37Tattie?
24:38Yeah.
24:39And extant.
24:41Yes.
24:42Tattie is in a potato.
24:43And extant means still in existence, surviving.
24:47Extant.
24:47Yeah.
24:48All right, close run affair.
24:49Four rounds left.
24:51But, Susie, last origins of words of this week.
24:54Well, hat tip again to Richard Ledra,
24:56who's written this lovely, what he calls a pleasure-y of word origins.
25:00And what's lovely is he pulls together words from different themes.
25:03And music is the theme today.
25:05And some of this, I think, here will have delivered a keynote speech,
25:10which is the main speech of a conference or an assembly in some kind.
25:16And you develop these, the sort of underlying theme of a gathering.
25:19But the term keynote actually belongs to music.
25:23Maybe no surprise there.
25:24But it's the practice of playing a note before a group,
25:27such as a barbershop quartet, for example,
25:30starts singing a cappella, in other words, without an orchestra.
25:34And that note determines the key.
25:36We've all heard it when we've been to a classical concert.
25:38You will hear that note, and then that's the one that people will follow.
25:42So that is the key note, the one that sets everything in motion.
25:46We also have, with music, we have a second string.
25:50If someone is second string to somebody else,
25:53you're the kind of subordinate, if you like.
25:55And the second string originally was a set of violin strings
25:58that were kept on hand in case the first one broke.
26:00So you're the sort of, you know, the support act, if you like.
26:04We might soft pedal someone if we want to, you know,
26:09bring them round or win them round to something.
26:11And that's the soft pedal that we use on a piano.
26:13Fairly obvious, I suppose, but we modify the timbre of music when we do that.
26:17But sometimes, if we don't soft pedal, we want to pull out all the stops,
26:21and that refers to an organ.
26:23And the organ is pulling out all the sort of knobs,
26:25all the bells and whistles, actually, which also goes back to organ player,
26:28in order to bring all these pipes into play.
26:30And finally, to harp on.
26:33I never really thought about this one.
26:34If you harp on about something, you don't stop going on in an extremely annoying way.
26:39And that goes back to an old phrase, to harp on one string,
26:42which means to play a single note on a harp over and over,
26:46which must be very annoying.
26:48Right, thank you very much, Susie.
26:49You're welcome.
26:49APPLAUSE
26:50Four rounds left.
26:55Dan, five points in it.
26:57How exciting.
26:58Calm down.
26:59And let's get more letters.
27:00A consonant, please, Rachel.
27:02Thank you, Dan.
27:02And a final consonant, please.
27:26And a final S.
27:29Calm down.
27:29This has been a final consonant.
27:34It is one of my favorite.
27:37Based on our own hands,
27:38you can't see,
27:57Dan.
28:02Risky seven.
28:03OK, and Talha?
28:05Seven.
28:05OK, what's risky?
28:06Bleamed.
28:08Bleamed.
28:09And the seven?
28:10Blessed.
28:11Yes, blessed or blessed is without a doubt there.
28:14Bleamed.
28:14Yes, it's a kind of blend of blamed and beamed, isn't it?
28:17Not in the dictionary, unfortunately.
28:18I'm sorry, Dan.
28:20Bleamed me up, Scotty.
28:21Anything else?
28:22Yeah, I think there's a nine.
28:26Assembled.
28:27Assembled.
28:28Assembled.
28:28Well done.
28:33Seems to me what you're saying is Talha and Dan missed another nine.
28:37I don't want to rub it in here.
28:41It's good when nines are missed by both challenger and champion for the hundreds of thousands playing along at home.
28:47I love that.
28:47You're punching the air, you're jumping up on the sofa, doing laps of honour of your house.
28:52I'm high-fiving my mum.
28:54I'm doing all sorts.
28:55Rick still lives with his mum.
28:58His score is 72-60.
29:00In all the tomfoolery, very, very important because that gets you out of the crucial countdown conundrum territory.
29:06But for how long?
29:07Still three rounds to go and this is the final letters, Talha.
29:11Can I have a consonant, please, Rachel?
29:13L.
29:14Another one.
29:16W.
29:17Another one.
29:19G.
29:20A vowel.
29:21O.
29:22Another one.
29:24A.
29:25A consonant.
29:28D.
29:28And a final vowel, please.
29:37And a final E.
29:39And last letters.
29:39B.
29:41B.
29:42B.
29:42B.
29:43B.
29:44B.
29:45B.
29:45B.
29:46B.
29:46That's time up.
30:11Talha, how many?
30:12Just a six.
30:13And Dan?
30:14Just a six as well.
30:15That's OK.
30:16Keep it steady.
30:17Glared.
30:18Glared.
30:18Glowed.
30:19Glared and glowed.
30:21That's all right.
30:22Keeps everything on a bit of a knife edge.
30:24Anything beyond the six?
30:25I think you might be able to have glowier.
30:27You can.
30:28Glowier compaction, for example.
30:30And there's also air glow, too,
30:33which is a glow in the night sky caused by radiation in the upper atmosphere.
30:36Thank you very much.
30:3778 plays 66.
30:40So, Dan, you need to do better than Talha at the numbers,
30:43the final numbers round to take it to a crucial countdown conundrum,
30:46but you get to choose your fate.
30:47So, let's do it.
30:48Six small, please.
30:49Yes.
30:50Six small.
30:51That's it.
30:51This is the right tactic.
30:53Let's see if it pays off for you, Dan.
30:55Hopefully a crucial conundrum coming.
30:57Final numbers of the week.
30:58Five, two, four, five, seven, and nine.
31:05And the target, 721.
31:07721.
31:09Big moment.
31:09Final numbers.
31:10We'll see you next time.
31:13We'll see you next time.
31:14Bye.
31:19Bye.
31:27Bye.
31:28Bye.
31:37Bye.
31:38Bye.
31:40Bye.
31:40721, Dan.
31:43720, not written down.
31:45Talha, 720 written down.
31:47Go ahead, Dan.
31:489 times 7.
31:509 times 7, 63.
31:53Plus the 5 and the 4.
31:555 and the 4, 72.
31:56And then 5, the other 5 times the 2 is 10 and times them together.
32:02Yep, 720, one away.
32:04Yeah, might not be the same way, but it will involve 72, Talha.
32:09Mine's 5 times 2 is 10.
32:115, 2 is a 10.
32:13And then 7 plus 5 minus 4 is 8.
32:16Yeah.
32:17Times that by the 9 and then multiply everything together.
32:21Yep, again, one away.
32:22We're all getting 720, Rich.
32:25Well, I don't deserve the 10 points, but I think I've just got it standing here.
32:28With 9 times 5 is 45.
32:32Add 4 for 49.
32:34Times it by 2 for 98.
32:36Add the second 5 for 103 and times it by 7.
32:417, 2, 1.
32:42Amazing.
32:45Right, 85 plus 73.
32:4710 points up for grabs in the final round.
32:49Last one of the week.
32:51Dan, look at me.
32:52Smile.
32:53It's all good.
32:53Put your finger in the buzzer.
32:55Let's enjoy it.
32:55Let's reveal Friday's Countdown Conundrum.
32:58Tell her.
33:02Is it statements?
33:04Let's have a look.
33:05It's wrong.
33:06Come on, Dan.
33:07Time's up.
33:36You know where I'm going.
33:37She's just wide the nation with the numbers.
33:39Always knows the conundrum.
33:41I think it's statesmen.
33:42Statesmen.
33:43I'm not even going to check.
33:44We know you're right.
33:49You're halfway there, Talha.
33:50Wonderful stuff.
33:51We'll see you back here on Monday.
33:53Dan, you looked a bit god of dare when you realised it was too much.
33:57I think it was the realisation of the number of nines that I'd missed.
34:01It's always hindsight's a wonderful thing.
34:03Yeah, reporting might keep you awake for a while.
34:05Yeah.
34:06Might do.
34:07Thank you very much to Talha and Dan.
34:09To Rick, always a pleasure to have you in Dictionary Corner.
34:13Thank you for having me, as ever.
34:14Good stuff.
34:15Enjoy your weekend, Sue.
34:16Yes, and you.
34:16Happy weekend.
34:17You too, Rach.
34:17I'll be back on Monday.
34:19Good, yeah.
34:19And don't forget, she really, really wants you to knit her a dress.
34:23Get it done.
34:24And we'll be back here on Monday, dressed to the nines, ready for another week of Countdown.
