During remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke about the nomination of Rodney Scott to be the Customs and Border Protection Commissioner.
Transcript
00:00Today, Senate Republicans will confirm Rodney Scott as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and
00:05Border Protection, or CPB.
00:07It's hard to imagine a worse, more unqualified, more dangerous choice to lead the CPB in this
00:14moment than Mr. Scott.
00:16His lack of experience alone is enough to disqualify him from the position.
00:21But there's even more.
00:23During his time at the Border Patrol, Mr. Scott was directly implicated in the alleged cover-up
00:28of the death of someone in Border Patrol custody.
00:33These are the people Donald Trump seems to like, people who break the law, they somehow,
00:37he likes that.
00:40And there's another one.
00:42When pressed by the committee about these allegations, Mr. Scott describes his actions as routine.
00:49Cover up the death of someone who was in custody, that's routine.
00:54This is sick.
00:55This is a person who may have covered up the death of someone in the Border Patrol
00:58custody.
00:59And now Republicans want to put him in charge of border security.
01:04No one who allegedly covered up a wrongful death at the hands of law enforcement should
01:10ever be named to a position of leadership.
01:12The Senate should reject his nomination.
01:17And while the Trump, and at a time when the Trump administration is snatching people off
01:21the streets, conducting military-style raids across America, and demonizing immigrants,
01:27Mr. Scott would be nothing more than a rubber stamp for some of Donald Trump's nastiest,
01:33cruelest immigration policies.
01:36No.
01:39I note the absence of a letter.
01:44What about president?
