Israel starts flying home citizens stranded abroad during conflict with Iran

Repatriation flights have started landing in Israel amid its conflict with Iran, but thousands of Israelis remain stranded in countries such as Bulgaria.

00:00Nearly 400 Israeli citizens are currently stranded in Bulgaria's largest summer resort.
00:10They arrived here on vacation, but after the break-out of the Israel-Iran conflict, they
00:14were unable to return home.
00:17All of them, however, are looking for ways to get back.
00:20Galid's family believes the situation will calm down in a few weeks.
00:43She and several other families have been temporarily checked into a new hotel after their original
00:48holiday stay ended.

01:11There is no option to fly to Ben Gurion or a nearby airport and a flight to Egypt or Jordan

01:52According to the State Agency for Refugees, no Israeli citizens have applied for international
02:05protection in Bulgaria this year.
02:07And last year, only six did.
02:11In contrast, during 2024, 43 asylum requests were submitted by Iranian nationals and 16 more
02:20by the end of May.
