00:25Chapter 61, Conflict
00:27When Kyle emerged from the headmaster's office, he was holding a feather along with the magic-suppressing potion.
00:33It was a warm phoenix tail feather, a gift from Fox.
00:37The phoenix had plucked it off right in front of Kyle's eyes as if sensing his departure.
00:43Kyle hadn't just broken even, he had profited, trading a simple bluebell for a fresh phoenix tail feather.
00:49What a generous phoenix, he thought.
00:52After leaving the eighth floor, Kyle hurried towards the Quidditch pitch.
00:57But upon arriving, he was greeted by a group of young Hufflepuffs carrying Cedric and rushing towards the hospital wing, all while cursing angrily.
01:06The shameless scum from Slytherin.
01:08Rude and dirty, they don't deserve to play Quidditch.
01:12Slytherin should be disqualified.
01:15Cedric, being carried by the young badgers, clutched his head with one hand while holding his right leg with the other, his face twisted in pain.
01:23Seeing this, Kyle quickly followed.
01:27From their heated conversation, it wasn't hard to guess that Cedric had been injured, and that the Slytherin players were responsible.
01:35Spotting Ryan and Mikel in the crowd, Kyle rushed over, patting one of them on the shoulder.
01:41What happened on the pitch, he asked.
01:44Ryan, startled, turned around in surprise.
01:46Kyle, where have you been?
01:50Why are you only just getting here?
01:52The headmaster called for me, so I went to his office, Kyle replied briefly, before asking again, never mind me, how's Cedric?
02:01At this, Ryan's face flushed with anger.
02:05It's those shameless Slytherins again.
02:06You don't know, Cedric was about to catch the snitch, just a little more and we would have one.
02:13But then the Slytherin captain took advantage of Cedric focusing on the snitch and punched him in the head, knocking him clean off his broom.
02:21Yes.
02:22Mikel added, equally outraged.
02:25And do you know what that git said to Madame Hooch?
02:28He actually claimed he thought Cedric's head was a quaffle.
02:31That rude, stupid, underdeveloped gorilla doesn't deserve to play in a tournament like this.
02:38He should be sent off.
02:41Mikel fumed.
02:42It's not football, Mikel, Ryan reminded him.
02:46You can't send someone off in Quidditch.
02:49Mikel jutted his chin out stubbornly.
02:52But it's still unfair to just give Hufflepuff a free shot.
02:55As Ryan and Mikel went back and forth in their outrage, Kyle quickly pieced together what had happened.
03:03Just as he had suspected, Slytherin had resorted to dirty tactics after realizing they couldn't win the game fairly.
03:10Soon, the group arrived at the hospital wing.
03:13By Merlin's beard.
03:15What on earth happened?
03:17Madame Pomfrey was furious.
03:20A broken nose and a complete break of the right leg.
03:22I don't understand why Hogwarts organizes such dangerous games.
03:28Every year someone is brought in, every single year.
03:32She wasted no time in mending Cedric's leg, casting her healing spells with practice precision.
03:38Once his leg was set, she sent everyone else away, but kept Kyle behind.
03:43With other patience to attend to, she couldn't watch over Cedric herself, and since she vaguely remembered Kyle, the responsibility fell to him.
03:51As she closed the door, she muttered under her breath, complaining about the dangers of Quidditch and the incompetence of the teachers who allowed it.
04:00Kyle sat down by Cedric's bedside and poured him a glass of water.
04:05How are you feeling?
04:07My leg still hurts a bit, Cedric admitted, shifting slightly in bed, but it's already much better.
04:12There was never any doubt about Madame Pomfrey's skill.
04:17If it had been Cedric's arm instead of his leg, he would likely have been discharged already.
04:22It's a pity about the game, though.
04:25We were 30 points ahead.
04:27Cedric sighed in frustration as he sank back into his pillow.
04:31If only I'd paid more attention to what was happening around me.
04:35It's okay, it's just one game, Kyle reassured him.
04:40Winning or losing isn't important.
04:42Besides, it's practically Slytherin tradition to foul during the match.
04:47Even if you dodge them this time, they'd come after you again.
04:51And if you keep avoiding them, you'll never be able to catch the golden snitch.
04:56You're right, Cedric admitted, scratching his head in frustration.
05:00But what about the rest of the games?
05:03Hufflepuff and Slytherin would face each other more than once during the season,
05:07and Cedric had no desire to end up in the hospital wing three more times.
05:12Don't worry, Kyle said after a moment's thought.
05:15You just focus on getting better, and leave the rest to me.
05:19Wait, are you joining the Quidditch team?
05:22Cedric asked in surprise.
05:25What position would you play, beater?
05:28Kyle snorted.
05:29You're thinking too much.
05:32Once the competition has started, it's impossible for me to join, even if I wanted to, unless someone withdraws voluntarily.
05:40Hogwarts rules on Quidditch were clear, each house had only one opportunity to recruit new players,
05:45and it was limited to the second week of the school year.
05:49In reality, the captains often selected their teams by the end of the first week
05:53and submitted the names to Madame Hooch at the beginning of the second.
05:56This gave new players time to train with the team before the matches began, and saved the professors any hassle.
06:04After that, no substitutions were allowed unless a player left school, dropped out, or could no longer play for medical reasons.
06:11And Madame Hooch was firm on this.
06:14Then what did you mean by taking care of it?
06:18Wait, you're not thinking of going after Slytherin, are you?
06:21Cedric's expression turned serious as he realized what Kyle might be implying.
06:27Don't do anything that breaks school rules.
06:30I just broke a leg, it's not that serious.
06:34And you're only a first year.
06:36Most of the Slytherin players are third years or older.
06:40They'd be happy to take you on, and Professor Snape won't.
06:43Hey, hold on a minute, Kyle interrupted, raising an eyebrow.
06:49What's all this talk about first years and third years?
06:52You don't think I'm planning to duel them, do you?
06:56Cedric froze.
06:58Aren't you?
06:59You wish, Kyle replied, giving him a disgusted look.
07:03I think Madame Pomfrey should check your head again.

07:08Chapter 62, The Tense Atmosphere in the Hospital Wing
07:12In the Hospital Wing, Cedric and Kyle locked eyes, an awkward silence filling the air.
07:18It was Cedric who felt the weight of the moment more.
07:22If he weren't lying in bed, he might have tried to dig a hole right there to escape the embarrassment.
07:27I'm glad that's not the case, Cedric muttered, turning his head to the side in an attempt to appear calm.
07:34Kyle cleared his throat, his tone suddenly serious.
07:38Cedric, why on earth would you want to duel them?
07:41We're Hufflepuffs, the most honest and model students at Hogwarts.
07:46That kind of thinking is dangerous.
07:48He leaned in slightly.
07:51Think of Professor Sprout, how disappointed she'd be if she found out you'd become so impulsive,
07:56reckless, and disobedient.
07:58I didn't, I haven't thought about it.
08:01Cedric shot back, annoyed.
08:04The truth was, when he was brought to the hospital wing, he'd overheard some of the others talking
08:09about confronting the Slytherins for a proper one-on-one fight.
08:13Quite a few were fired up about it.
08:16At the time, his head and leg had hurt too much for him to protest, and he had been too
08:20out of it to stop them.
08:22Now, as Kyle spoke, he'd assumed his friend was thinking the same way.
08:27You don't need to explain, Kyle said, not even glancing at him, his voice calm and reflective.
08:34I understand.
08:35You were seriously hurt, and it's only natural to say something rash when you're emotional.
08:41Just be more cautious next time.
08:44Here, have a chocolate frog.
08:46Before the young badgers left the hospital wing, they had left some snacks, mostly treats
08:51they'd brought to enjoy during the game.
08:54Kyle picked up a chocolate frog, unwrapped it, and handed it over.
08:59I'm telling you, I didn't think like that.
09:02You, wait a second.
09:04Cedric paused mid-sentence, suddenly noticing the card in Kyle's hand.
09:09What are you holding?
09:11Kyle calmly slid his hand into his pocket.
09:14Just an ordinary card.
09:17Nicholas Flamel.
09:19I don't have him yet.
09:20No, Cedric said, sitting up straighter.
09:24That's not Nicholas Flamel, it's Agrippa.
09:28Though he'd only caught a glimpse, Cedric had seen the golden sheen of the card, something
09:32that made it unmistakable.
09:34The chocolate frog company had commissioned a renowned alchemist to create a unique protection
09:39for this rare card.
09:41It was a fail-safe against people using doubling charms to duplicate it or Accio to steal it.
09:46The protection charm was far superior to the one on galleons.
09:50There was only one card in the entire chocolate frog set that used this enchantment, Cornelius
09:56Agrippa, the rarest of them all.
09:59Realizing this, Cedric immediately reached out.
10:02Give it back.
10:04That was my chocolate frog, so the card inside is naturally mine too.
10:09Kyle, seeing he'd been caught, stopped pretending.
10:12But I'm the one who opened it.
10:15If it had been yours, you'd have gotten a Dumbledore at best.
10:19It doesn't matter who opened it.
10:22The card is Cornelius Agrippa, and it's mine.
10:25Cedric retorted, getting increasingly frustrated.
10:29I just need this one to complete my collection.
10:33Kyle clutched his pocket defensively.
10:35I need this one too.
10:38Just like on the train, they were back to staring each other down, the tension in the air thick.
10:43But this time, Kyle clearly had the upper hand.
10:47He shot Cedric a defiant look, then walked toward the door of the hospital wing, opened
10:52it, and stepped outside.
10:54But then he came back in.
10:57Out again.
10:58Then in once more.
11:00Cedric was at his wit's end, staring incredulously as Kyle teased him.
11:05He couldn't believe his friend would stoop so low as to taunt a patient with a broken
11:09leg.
11:10Okay, no more jokes.
11:13Seeing Cedric practically gasping for breath from frustration, Kyle walked back to his bedside
11:18and pulled the Agrippa card from his pocket.
11:21I really can't give it to you.
11:23I need it, Kyle said, his expression unusually serious.
11:28I have to admit, Slytherin is really lucky.
11:31I was wondering what to do next, and then this card showed up right on time.
11:37Slytherin.
11:38Cedric put down the shoe he'd been holding threateningly and gave Kyle a puzzled look.
11:43What does your plan have to do with this card?
11:46Kyle nodded gravely.
11:48This is Agrippa, Cedric muttered, his face filled with longing and worry.
11:53If I could get my hands on an Agrippa, I'd be willing to fall off my broom a few more times.
11:59Kyle shot him a look of disdain.
12:02It's just a card.
12:04Look at you, completely hopeless.
12:07This isn't about a card.
12:09We're talking about venting your frustration.
12:11On a small scale, sure, but on a larger scale, it could decide whether Hufflepuff wins the Quidditch cup.
12:19Now tell me, what's more important, an Agrippa card or the Quidditch cup?
12:24Cedric paused, Kyle's words sinking in.
12:27That's true.
12:29He mumbled, feeling torn between his collection and his house's victory.
12:34Exactly.
12:36Kyle declared, sensing he was making headway.
12:39But Cedric couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
12:43Kyle was acting way too serious for his usual self.
12:47The more Cedric thought about it, the more convinced he became that Kyle was pulling one over on him,
12:53that the Agrippa card had nothing to do with Kyle's so-called plan.
12:57Why don't you just let me have the Agrippa, even for just one night?
13:01Cedric suggested cautiously.
13:03That way, I can at least say I had him once.
13:06I'll give it back to you tomorrow when I'm discharged, or we could carry out the plan together.
13:12Kyle shook his head, standing tall as though he were preparing for battle.
13:17No, no, leave the dirty work to me, he said with exaggerated bravado, patting his chest.
13:23Your task right now is to rest and heal properly.
13:27Cedric just stared, deadpan.
13:29He was sure now, Kyle was definitely fooling him.
13:34Narrowing his eyes, Cedric bent down to pick up his shoes again, intending to confront Kyle.
13:40But by the time he looked back up, Kyle had already darted out of the hospital wing, quick as lightning.
13:47Cedric fumed, watching as Kyle made his escape.
13:50At that moment, Madame Pomfrey appeared, carrying a tray.
13:55What are you doing with your shoes, she asked, frowning at him.
13:59Your bones need time to heal properly.
14:02You'll be staying here overnight.
14:05I'm sorry, Madame, Cedric mumbled, forcing a smile as he sheepishly put his shoes back down.
14:12Madame Pomfrey sighed, shaking her head as she began re-bandaging Cedric's leg.
14:16Honestly, young wizards these days are so unreliable.
14:21She finished up and then reached over, placing something on his bed.
14:26I found this by your bedside.
14:28Remember to keep your belongings tidy.
14:31Cedric's heart skipped a beat, his eyes widening in surprise.
14:35He looked down at the card Madame Pomfrey had placed in front of him.
14:40It was a bearded old man, gazing kindly at him from the card.
14:43Cedric's heart, which had been burning with excitement moments earlier, sank like a stone
14:48as he read the description, Nicholas Flamel, widely regarded as the most famous living alchemist,
14:54is known for his contributions to.
14:57Kyle.
14:58Cedric growled, gritting his teeth as he glared at the hospital wing's entrance.
15:03He desperately wanted to leap out of bed, track Kyle down, and give him a well-deserved punch.
15:08But one glance at Madame Pomfrey bustling nearby quickly put an end to that thought.
15:15Resigned, Cedric sighed heavily and reached for the two remaining chocolate frogs.
15:20Maybe there was still hope of finding another Agrippa.
15:23He unwrapped them with growing anticipation, but a minute later, he sighed again.
15:29Two Dumbledores stared back at him.
15:32Defeated, he slipped the cards under his pillow.

15:36Chapter 63, Why Does It Leave a Sweet Aftertaste?
15:41Don't worry, Cedric's fine.
15:44Madame Pomfrey said he'll be discharged tomorrow morning, Kyle announced as soon as they returned
15:49to the Hufflepuff common room.
15:51The young Badgers, who had been anxiously waiting ever since leaving the hospital wing,
15:56perked up at the news.
15:58Even the Quidditch players, who had arrived earlier but were clearly disheartened, looked a bit relieved.
16:03Seeker Cedric's injury had been a huge blow to team morale.
16:08Although a substitute had taken over the chaser position, they still lost the match, 60-220,
16:15a crushing 160-point gap.
16:18At least Cedric's condition wasn't too serious, which was a small comfort.
16:22Peter Jazzer, a seventh-year student, exhaled in relief.
16:27If that's the case, he'll be back in time for practice tomorrow afternoon.
16:32Jazzer, who was in his final year, had one goal before graduating, winning the Quidditch
16:37Cup for Hufflepuff.
16:38Damn it!
16:39Captain Harris slammed his fist against the wall in frustration.
16:44This can't just be left like this.
16:47Yes, we can't let this slide, someone chimed in angrily.
16:52Slytherin hit our seeker so blatantly.
16:55They're showing they don't respect you as captain, and I can't stand it.
16:59Captain, another voice spoke up quietly, I heard some of the Slytherin players are going
17:04to Hogsmeade tomorrow.
17:05Maybe we could, shut it, Henry, Harris interrupted sharply, turning to glare at him.
17:12Remember, no one lays a hand on any Slytherin players.
17:16I'll deal with this.
17:18Kyle, who wasn't far away, glanced back at Harris after hearing what he said.
17:24The captain is still sharp, Kyle thought.
17:27We really can't afford to openly cause trouble with Slytherin right now.
17:30At the moment, Hufflepuff's house points were only about 10 points behind Slytherin's,
17:36a very narrow gap.
17:38If Snape got the chance, he wouldn't hesitate to dock Hufflepuff 100 points.
17:43And while losing that many points wouldn't normally bother Hufflepuff, there was a real
17:47fear that they wouldn't get the satisfaction of hitting back, and they'd still lose the
17:51points.
17:52That would be truly frustrating.
17:55The chance of that happening wasn't small either.
17:57Kyle suspected that a certain professor was keeping a close watch on them and might even
18:03be the one who leaked the news about the Slytherin players heading to Hogsmeade Village.
18:08Shaking his head, Kyle stopped paying attention to the conversation.
18:12He called Mikkel and Ryan over, and the three of them returned to the dormitory together.
18:18Kyle, what was so important that you couldn't say it outside?
18:22Mikkel asked, a bit reluctant as he'd been discussing Quidditch with the others when Kyle called him
18:27back to the dorm.
18:28He glanced at the vimborn wasps poster on Kyle's bed and sighed.
18:33I've just started to realize how interesting Quidditch actually is.
18:37Too bad first years can't join the team.
18:40But I'm definitely signing up next year.
18:43What about you guys?
18:45Want to come along?
18:47Mikkel closed his eyes, already imagining himself soaring across the Quidditch pitch on his broomstick.
18:53He envisioned catching the golden snitch, with the crowd roaring his name in deafening cheers.
18:59It was a wonderful feeling.
19:02Wake up first, sleep later.
19:04An indifferent voice snapped him out of his daydream.
19:08Quidditch can wait until next year.
19:10You have more important things to take care of right now.
19:14Kyle waited until Mikkel opened his eyes before reaching over and handing him a blue bottle of
19:19potion.
19:20Time to take your medicine, buddy.
19:23Mikkel's smile instantly vanished when he saw the magic-suppressing potion.
19:27No way.
19:29I just took it the other day.
19:31Mikkel protested firmly.
19:34Sixty days ago, Kyle corrected him.
19:37You know you're supposed to take it every two months.
19:40It's been two months already.
19:42That fast?
19:44Mikkel still couldn't believe it.
19:46The foul taste of the potion was so unforgettable, it felt like he had just taken it yesterday.
19:52Hey, did you forget?
19:55Ryan whispered from the side.
19:57Halloween was just a few days ago.
20:00Hearing this, Mikkel quickly snapped back to reality.
20:04Right, it was just Halloween, he thought.
20:07So, two months really had passed.
20:11Okay, fine, you're right, Mikkel admitted, his eyes darting around.
20:16But I've got stuff to do later.
20:18Just leave it on the table, and I'll drink it when I get back tonight.
20:22Okay, don't forget, Kyle said as he placed the potion on the table.
20:27Mikkel let out an audible sigh of relief.
20:30Don't worry, I won't.
20:33I'm heading to the library to finish my homework.
20:36See you tonight.
20:37As Mikkel turned to leave, Kyle quietly drew his wand.
20:43Incarcerous.
20:44Thick ropes shot from the tip of Kyle's wand, binding Mikkel tightly.
20:49What are you doing?
20:50What are you doing?
20:52Mikkel struggled frantically, but it was no use.
20:56He could only watch helplessly as Kyle approached with the potion in hand.
21:00Don't come any closer.
21:02Don't come any closer.
21:04Mikkel pleaded.
21:05Don't blame me.
21:08I'm upset about this too, Kyle said sincerely as he knelt down beside him.
21:13But I have a job to do.
21:15Dumbledore gave me the task, and I have to see it through.
21:19I'm fine, really.
21:22Mikkel insisted, trying to salvage the situation.
21:26Professor Sprout said I've improved a lot.
21:28There's no way I'll have accidents like before.
21:32That was the levitation charm, and we've all learned the floating charm by now, Kyle reminded
21:37him.
21:38Then I don't need a wand.
21:40Mikkel cried out, still struggling.
21:43I can do it without a wand, right?
21:46Kyle shook his head.
21:48Doing charm class without a wand is like playing Quidditch without a broom.
21:52Kyle gave Ryan a subtle signal, and Ryan immediately caught on.
21:58Rolling up his sleeves, he stepped forward.
22:01Together, the two of them managed to get the magic suppressing potion down Mikkel's throat
22:05without spilling a single drop.
22:08Ryan, holding the now empty bottle, asked curiously, what exactly is this stuff?
22:13Magic suppressing potion.
22:16It's pretty rare, Kyle explained.
22:19Rare?
22:20Ryan asked.
22:22Yeah, Kyle replied, pausing to think.
22:26Let me put it this way, if you weren't at Hogwarts, you'd need at least 50 galleons to get your hands
22:31on a potion like this.
22:33And that would be for the lowest quality version.
22:3650 galleons?
22:38Ryan gasped.
22:39His wand had only cost 7 galleons, and this one potion was worth 7 wands.
22:46Yep.
22:47But the one you just saw was made by Professor Snape himself, Kyle continued.
22:53A potion brewed by a master like him would sell for double that in Diagon Alley, around 100 galleons.
22:59Even Mikkel, who had been lying on the floor pretending to be a limp fish, suddenly sat up
23:05when he heard that number.
23:06He had just swallowed something worth 100 galleons.
23:10Mikkel smacked his lips, trying to catch the sweet aftertaste.

23:15Chapter 64
23:18The freely floating bottom line
23:19It was evening in an empty classroom at Hogwarts.
23:23The flickering light of an oil lamp cast the shadows of the three figures present obliquely
23:28onto the wall.
23:28I'm glad you came to us, Kyle, but we can't do this, Fred said, lowering his head and hiding
23:35his face from the light.
23:37We've known each other for years, but this is the first time you've asked for our help
23:41since you got to Hogwarts, he continued.
23:44I can't even remember the last time we had dinner together.
23:48Last Wednesday, Kyle, sitting across from him, paused briefly to think.
23:52You tried to sell my homework to the Gryffindor first years.
23:57My friend, you were very firm in your refusal, George chimed in indifferently.
24:02You have no idea how heartbroken we were when we had to walk away.
24:07I just didn't need detention from Professor McGonagall, Kyle replied.
24:11Selling homework in bulk.
24:14You two will come up with anything.
24:16Do you really think Professor McGonagall wouldn't notice something like that?
24:20She's not wrong, you know.
24:23Ahem, well, maybe you're right, Fred said, looking up at Kyle.
24:28But why aren't you worried about getting caught by McGonagall today?
24:32It's not that difficult, you could've done this yourself, or asked someone in Hufflepuff
24:37for help, right?
24:38We're being watched closely by Snape, Kyle explained.
24:43Oh, I see.
24:45So you're coming to us for the dirty work, George sighed.
24:48You found your place in Hufflepuff.
24:51You like it there, the professors and students like you.
24:55Honestly, you probably don't even need us anymore, and you've never even called us seniors.
25:01Enough with the dramatics.
25:03Are you in or out?
25:05Kyle's patience was running thin.
25:08Mr. Weasley, I'm going to count to three.
25:11If you don't answer, I'll go find someone else.
25:15One.
25:16George, look, he's even threatening us.
25:19Yeah, Fred, we're so scared.
25:22Two.
25:23I think you can count faster.
25:26Kyle didn't bother responding.
25:27Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden card, waving it in front of Fred
25:33and George's faces.
25:36Three.
25:37We'll do it.
25:39Fred and George exclaimed simultaneously, suddenly appearing on either side of Kyle, grinning
25:44broadly.
25:45Kyle, that card you were holding, was that Agrippa?
25:49Fred asked eagerly.
25:52Mm-mm-mm, Kyle nodded.
25:54Fred leaned in, his voice full of anticipation.
25:58Can I see it again?
26:00Just for a second.
26:02Kyle, smirking, pulled out the rare card once more and waved it in front of them.
26:07Their eyes widened with awe, following the card's every movement as Kyle swung it back and forth.
26:13After about ten seconds of teasing them, Kyle tucked the card away.
26:18See this Agrippa.
26:20After we finish the job, you're going to give it to us.
26:24George interrupted, eyes wide with excitement.
26:27You wish, Kyle said flatly.
26:30I'll lend it to you for ten minutes after the job's done.
26:33Ten days.
26:35Fred countered, frowning.
26:38Nine minutes, Kyle shot back.
26:41No way.
26:42A week at the very least, George jumped in.
26:46Five minutes.
26:48One day, that's our final offer, the twins said in unison.
26:52Deal.
26:53Kyle extended his hand, and the three of them high-fived.
26:57The agreement was sealed, and now it was time to iron out the details.
27:01Actually, we weren't planning on saying no, Fred said with a grin, patting Kyle on the
27:07shoulder.
27:08We're always happy to do anything to make Slytherin's life difficult.
27:13But you'll have to provide the props, George added.
27:15That thing needs to be custom-made, and it's very expensive.
27:20We can't afford it.
27:22Of course.
27:24I've already got it ready.
27:26Kyle pulled out a stack of gold galleons and placed them on the table.
27:31There should be enough for the two items.
27:33It's twenty galleons in total.
27:35More than enough, Fred said, picking up the galleons and rubbing them in his hands.
27:41He had never seen so much money before.
27:44Though he knew Kyle had made a fortune from selling the map a while back, seeing all these
27:49galleons stacked together was a whole different experience.
27:53Selling maps makes that kind of money.
27:56Kyle, we.
27:57George glanced at the pile of gold in front of him, seeming like he wanted to say something
28:02more.
28:04Kyle looked at him, puzzled.
28:06Never mind, we'll talk about it later, George said after a moment's thought, shaking his head.
28:12If it's twenty galleons, Zonkos will definitely be able to deliver what you want on time.
28:18Kyle didn't seem too concerned, and after discussing a few more specific details with them, he prepared
28:23to leave.
28:25I can't wait, Fred said excitedly.
28:28Slytherin really messed up this time by messing with you.
28:32Kyle glanced at him and reminded, don't say anything.
28:35What do I have to do with it?
28:38I don't know anything.
28:40Ha, cunning chopper.
28:42Heh, stupid Weasley.
28:44After parting ways with Fred and George, Kyle didn't head back to the Hufflepuff common room
28:49right away.
28:50Instead, he wandered aimlessly along the third-floor corridors of the castle.
28:55He needed to find a particular ghost, the fat friar had mentioned someone who liked to linger
29:00near the defense against the dark arts classroom.
29:02But after ten minutes of wandering, Kyle hadn't found anyone.
29:07Just as he was about to head back and try again in the morning, a balloon filled with
29:12liquid suddenly flew toward the back of his head.
29:15Kyle tilted his head slightly, narrowly avoiding it.
29:18The balloon hit the ground with a splat, releasing an unpleasant smell.
29:23Ho ho ho, pesky first-year brats, wandering around at night instead of sleeping.
29:29Tsk tsk tsk, naughty, you'll get caught, came a voice.
29:34A small figure appeared in midair, a dwarf with evil black eyes and a wide grin, his legs crossed
29:40as he floated.
29:42In his hands, he clutched two more balloons.
29:46Should I tell Filch, you big idiot and brat?
29:49That was so much fun.
29:51Kyle stood still, watching him with interest.
29:55Are you Peeves?
29:55For a moment, doubt flashed in Peeves' small black eyes, but it quickly turned into anger.
30:02The little brat didn't even run away.
30:05Clearly, he's looking down on me.
30:08How dare he?
30:10Yes, I am the great Peeves.
30:13Peeves hurled the two remaining balloons at Kyle.
30:16I'll tell Filch about your nighttime wanderings, and he'll lock you up, he said with exaggerated
30:21seriousness.
30:22I'm going to tell him, for your own good, okay?
30:27Kyle flicked his wand, easily deflecting the balloons aside.
30:31Unfazed, he replied, I agree with you, but it's still five minutes before curfew, so it's
30:37not technically a nighttime stroll.
30:39Besides, I came here specifically to see you.
30:43Come to see me on purpose.
30:46Peeves was taken aback.
30:48It was rare for any student to willingly seek him out.
30:50Yes, Kyle said, lowering his voice as he looked around.
30:56I have an idea.
30:57I'm not sure if you're interested in getting involved.

31:02Chapter 65, New Broomstick, The Nimbus 2000
31:07The following evening, to celebrate Cedric's discharge from the hospital, the Hufflepuff Quidditch
31:13team threw him a small party in the common room after their training session.
31:18Cedric was doing well, which was excellent news for the team, and their captain, Harris,
31:22had even managed to bring back some butterbeer from Hogsmeade Village to share with everyone.
31:28Mainly, though, he wanted a drink for himself.
31:31As captain, Harris was under tremendous pressure.
31:35Ever since the first round of matches, he had been losing hair by the handful.
31:40The competition was fierce.
31:43Gryffindor had a top-tier team, with hardly any weaknesses.
31:46Slytherin, well-equipped and notorious for bending the rules, made them a nightmare to play against.
31:54And Ravenclaw, though often underestimated, was a strong, well-balanced team.
31:59For Hufflepuff, Cedric, their talented seeker, was almost their only hope of winning the championship.
32:06Harris lifted his butterbeer and clinked glasses with Cedric.
32:10Don't worry, it won't happen again.
32:13I'm going to assign one of the beaters to protect you.
32:16Next time Slytherin tries anything dirty, that beaters' bat will land on their face first.
32:22Cedric frowned, clearly not thrilled with the idea.
32:26There were only two beaters on the team, and if one of them was assigned to protect him,
32:30it would leave the chasers at a disadvantage.
32:33If the other team built up too big of a lead, even catching the golden snitch might not be enough to win.
32:40After mulling it over, Cedric decided the plan wasn't worth the risk.
32:44He explained his concerns to Harris.
32:47Don't worry about that, Harris replied, after thinking it over.
32:52This is just a preliminary plan.
32:55We can tweak it during our training sessions.
32:58Cedric tried several more times to convince Harris to drop the idea,
33:01but no matter how well he argued, Harris always responded with the same line,
33:06we'll talk about it after the training match.
33:08Realizing that Harris wasn't going to budge, Cedric gave up for now.
33:14Fine, he thought, we'll see what happens after the training match.
33:18Kyle, who wasn't part of the team, also attended the feast but didn't have to worry about any of the tactical discussions.
33:25Instead, he simply focused on enjoying the food.
33:28He was tempted to try some butter beer, but before he could reach for a mug,
33:33an older student stopped him, reminding him that under 50 years weren't allowed to drink.
33:39That put a damper on Kyle's excitement, but there wasn't much he could do about it.
33:44Even Cedric, the guest of honor, was drinking pumpkin juice instead.
33:48Once the feast ended, everyone headed back to their dormitories.
33:53The following days unfolded like any other.
33:56Kyle attended classes, ate meals, and spent time in the library doing his homework,
34:01just like the rest of the young wizards.
34:03It was as if the party and all the earlier drama had never happened.
34:07Even Fred and George, notorious for their pranks, seemed to have calmed down a bit.
34:14They had only lost Gryffindor 10 points in the past few days, much to Professor McGonagall's delight.
34:20She had stopped being as strict with them, and the atmosphere in the school seemed more relaxed.
34:26This peace lasted until mid-November, when the second Quidditch match of the season arrived.
34:31It was a weekend, and early that morning, a rumor began to spread through Hogwarts like wildfire.
34:37Have you heard?
34:39There's a new broom on the Gryffindor team.
34:42In the great hall, a Slytherin first-year eagerly shared what he had just overheard.
34:47A new broom?
34:49Seven Rosier, the seventh-year Slytherin team captain, scowled as he heard the news.
34:55His team was set to face Gryffindor in the afternoon,
34:57and the idea of Gryffindor getting an advantage from a new broom just before the match wasn't sitting well with him.
35:03But the news got worse.
35:05I heard it's not just any broom.
35:08It's the Nimbus 2000, and it hasn't even been released yet.
35:13Nimbus 2000, someone gasped in disbelief.
35:16That's impossible.
35:18My uncle works in the Department of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry of Magic,
35:23and even he can't get his hands on a Nimbus 2000.
35:26How would the Gryffindors get one?
35:28At this, another student chimed in, I heard Bill Weasley brought it back from Egypt.
35:35Apparently, he did Nimbus Racing Broom Company a huge favor once.
35:40Damn Weasley, someone muttered, slamming their fist on the table.
35:44What does this mean for the match?
35:46The Nimbus 2000's performance has to be miles ahead of the Nimbus 1700 we're using.
35:52The Slytherin who had first spoken stood up abruptly.
35:56I'm going to write to my uncle and see if he can get us a Nimbus 2002.
36:01Will it arrive in time?
36:02Another student asked, sounding skeptical.
36:04It should be fine, he replied.
36:08Next to them, the Slytherin team members wore dark, brooding expressions after hearing the
36:13news, their meals left unfinished.
36:16Rozier, their captain, was especially furious.
36:20He slammed his fist on the table, knocking his plate over in frustration.
36:25Damn it, why now of all times, he growled.
36:29Slytherin and Gryffindor had been bitter rivals for as long as anyone could remember, and Rozier
36:34couldn't bear the thought of losing to Gryffindor in a match, especially not like this.
36:39Don't panic just yet, one of his teammates said, trying to sound calm.
36:44The news hasn't been confirmed.
36:46The Nimbus 2000 isn't some toy they can just hand out to anyone.
36:51Besides, this came out of nowhere, it could just be a rumor to throw us off.
36:56Wow.
36:57Before he could finish, a collective gasp rose from the Great Hall.
37:01Heads turned toward the entrance.
37:04Look, what's that?
37:06As if mocking Rozier's words, six long-eared owls swooped in, carrying an elongated package
37:12and landing right on the Gryffindor table.
37:15From the shape of the package, it was unmistakable, a broomstick.
37:19Even though it was tightly wrapped, everyone could tell that it was longer than a Nimbus 1700,
37:24and its design was unlike any of the brooms currently available on the market.
37:28The Weasley twins eagerly grabbed the package, grinning from ear to ear, and began talking
37:34excitedly with their teammates.
37:36Though it was difficult to hear what they were saying from across the hall, the excitement
37:40on the Gryffindor side was palpable.
37:43Their Quidditch players exchanged glances, their eyes gleaming with excitement, and maybe
37:48even a hint of smugness.
37:49Rozier's face twisted into a grimace as he watched them, feeling as though their excitement
37:55was a direct taunt aimed at him and his team.
37:57His frustration boiled over, and, with no food left on his own plate to flip in anger,
38:03he instead knocked over the plate of a nearby first-year who was unfortunate enough to be
38:07sitting next to him.
38:08Everyone, go find out what's going on, Rozier ordered through clenched teeth.
38:14We need to know if that broom is really the Nimbus 2000.
38:18And what if it is, someone asked nervously.
38:21Then write home and get one for yourself.
38:25Rozier snapped, his temper flaring.
38:27What are you waiting for?
38:29Go.
38:31The Slytherin team members scattered at his command.
38:33Other Slytherins in the hall, noticing the tension, quietly slipped out as well.
38:40No one wanted to stick around and risk being the next target of Rozier's foul mood.
