00:00Welcome to the Dream Novel channel before starting to listen to the fun in this clip.
00:13Don't forget to like and comment. So that the admin will have the encouragement to continue
00:18making clips. Let's go listen. Channel Dream Novel. Chapter 16, If you can't beat them,
00:26join them. Kyle had always been curious about how the boats transporting first-year students
00:32across the Black Lake actually worked. He had assumed it was magic, but now he wasn't so sure.
00:39Despite observing the boats closely for a long time, he hadn't detected any obvious magical traces.
00:46What puzzled him even more was Hagrid's boat. Despite the half-giant's massive size,
00:51his boat floated just as effortlessly as the ones carrying four much lighter first-years.
00:57That was clearly abnormal. Maybe there's more advanced or concealed magic at play,
01:02Kyle thought, or perhaps these boats are alchemical objects. But deep down, he was beginning to suspect
01:10that something might be supporting the boats from beneath the surface of the lake.
01:14Could it be that giant squid? Kyle wondered, leaning over the side of the boat to peer into the water.
01:20Unfortunately, the visibility was too poor in the dark, moonlit lake to see anything below the
01:26surface. All he could make out was his own reflection. Soon, the boat exited the tunnel and
01:33docked at what appeared to be an underground pier. One by one, the students disembarked and followed
01:39Hagrid up a cobblestone path. They eventually arrived at a flat, damp meadow beneath the looming silhouette of
01:46Hogwarts castle. From there, they made their way up a flight of stone steps to a massive oak door.
01:53Welcome to Hogwarts, Hagrid said, before pounding on the door with his huge fist.
01:58The door creaked open to reveal a tall, stern-looking witch in a green robe,
02:03her black hair pulled back in a tight bun.
02:05Professor McGonagall had an air about her that immediately commanded respect, much like a strict
02:11homeroom teacher suddenly appearing in the back of the classroom. The chatter among the first-year
02:16students fell into an instant hush. Even Hagrid straightened up a bit as he spoke.
02:22The first-year students have arrived, Professor McGonagall.
02:26Thank you, Hagrid. I'll take it from here, she replied curtly, glancing over the group of new
02:33students before leading them into the castle. As they stepped inside, the warmth of the torches
02:38lining the stone walls enveloped them, melting away the cold they'd felt outside. The flickering
02:44light cast long shadows, adding to the castle's sense of grandeur. To their right, Kyle could hear
02:50the low hum of voices coming from behind a closed door, clearly the sound of the older students
02:55waiting in the great hall. However, Professor McGonagall didn't lead them into the great
03:01hall just yet. Instead, she guided the group into an empty chamber at the other end of the
03:07hall. First, welcome to Hogwarts, she began, her voice precise and commanding. As the first-year
03:14students gazed around in awe, Professor McGonagall delivered her well-practiced speech.
03:19The feast will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the great hall,
03:24we must first determine which house you will join. House divisions are an important ritual,
03:30as your house will serve as your family here at Hogwarts for the duration of your stay.
03:34Even though Kyle already knew everything she was about to say, he listened attentively.
03:40After all, he was standing in the front row, right under Professor McGonagall's watchful eye.
03:45Daydreaming now could mean trouble later, and Kyle had no intention of making his Hogwarts
03:51experience difficult. Plus, this was a famous moment in wizarding life, a once-in-a-lifetime
03:57experience, and Kyle didn't want to miss a single detail. Professor McGonagall moved on to explain
04:04the house cup and then introduced the four houses—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw,
04:09and Slytherin. Or, as Kyle humorously thought of them, the brave, the hardy, the brainy, and the
04:16purebloods. Around him, the other first-year students listened eagerly, their eyes gleaming
04:22with anticipation. Some even sneaked glances toward the direction of the great hall, clearly itching to
04:29rush inside and experience the sorting for themselves. It was obvious that this was the
04:34moment they had all been waiting for, the one that would define their next seven years at Hogwarts.
04:40In a few minutes, the ceremony will begin in front of the entire school.
04:44I suggest you tidy yourselves up while you wait so that you look presentable,
04:48Professor McGonagall advised, giving the group of first-years a final glance.
04:52Please be quiet while you wait. The moment Professor McGonagall left the room, however,
04:59it was as though her words had flipped a switch. The silence was quickly replaced by a buzz of
05:05chatter as the students huddled together, all eager to speculate on what the sorting ceremony
05:09would involve. How are we going to be sorted? Do we get to choose our own house? A young witch
05:16asked nervously, voicing the question on everyone's mind. I bet it's some kind of test,
05:21a muggle-born girl chimed in confidently. I almost got into a middle school when I received
05:27my Hogwarts letter, but I decided to come here instead. I mean, Professor McGonagall convinced
05:33my mom that Hogwarts was better. She was clearly trying to impress, but her story didn't have the
05:40intended effect. Most of the students were too focused on the impending sorting ceremony to care
05:45about her mention of middle school, which left a few of them puzzled. I think the heads of the
05:51houses choose us, said another student with conviction. At Ilvermorny, they use statues
05:56to pick students. My father is friends with someone in the Department of International Magical
06:02Cooperation at the Ministry of Magic, and he told me all about it. This braggart dad's story was much
06:09more convincing, and he immediately attracted a crowd of followers and basked in their attention.
06:13He continued to brag about his father as if he were the minister of magic himself.
06:20Kyle, standing off to the side, suddenly felt a tug on his sleeve. He turned to find Kanna looking up
06:26at him, her face filled with worry. Kyle, is it really the headmaster who chooses?
06:33Kanna asked anxiously, her voice trembling. What if no house wants me? Will I be expelled?
06:40Kyle smiled, trying to reassure her. Don't worry, there's no way that'll happen.
06:47Think about it, Hogwarts and Ilvermorny are completely different schools.
06:52They wouldn't use the same sorting method. That'd be way too boring.
06:57Kanna exhaled a sigh of relief, but she still looked a little unsure.
07:02So, do you know how we're sorted?
07:04Kyle hesitated for a moment, then leaned in and whispered with a mischievous glint in his eyes,
07:11well, the professor hits each student with an Avada cadaver. The ones who survive get to enroll.
07:18Don't worry, you'll be fine. Kanna's eyes widened in horror, but before she could react,
07:24a ghost drifted through the room, floating eerily past them. Kyle, acting as if everything was perfectly
07:31normal, waved casually. Hello there, senior. We're about to be sorted. Wish us luck.
07:39The ghost, though clearly baffled by Kyle's greeting, gave a nod before continuing to glide away.
07:46Seeing the ghost respond so casually, the light drained from Kanna's eyes,
07:50and she stood frozen, looking utterly defeated. Channel Dream Novel. Chapter 17, Sorting Hat.
07:59A few minutes later, more and more ghosts began to appear in the small room, each one with a
08:04different shape and size, some tall, others short, some thin, and others rather rotund.
08:11The sight of so many ghosts took the new students by surprise.
08:14At first, many of the young witches and wizards were frightened, but they soon realized that the
08:20ghosts were quite friendly, greeting everyone with cheerful enthusiasm. One ghost, eager to ease the
08:27students' nervousness, decided to put on a little show, performing a, ghostly, talent, removing his
08:33head and holding it above his body as it dangled in the air. Cool. Someone whispered, watching the
08:39ghost's head bob up and down. Thank you, the ghost replied, clearly in the mood for more.
08:46But I can do something even cooler. With a grin, the ghost tossed his head high into the air.
08:53What followed was an impressive acrobatic display, a front somersault followed by a triple-and-a-half
08:59aerial spin. The ghost's body reached up just in time to catch his head smoothly, reattaching it
09:05without a hitch. The performance was flawless. The crowd, including Kyle, erupted into applause.
09:14It was truly impressive, after all, a talent like that wasn't something you saw every day.
09:20Thank you, thank you, the ghost beamed as he took a bow, circling the group of students with pride.
09:27Oh, and did I mention? It was with this very routine that I joined the headless hunt.
09:32Not to brag or anything, of course, just letting you know you've got good taste.
09:38His smug air only made the students laugh harder, and soon the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement.
09:44Everyone urged him to perform more tricks, which he happily obliged, though none quite as difficult as
09:50his first routine. Even so, the continuous tricks had the first year's laughing and cheering.
09:56Hmph, came a sneering voice from the side. What's so impressive about that?
10:03The group turned to see another ghost, this one wearing a distinctive wrinkled collar.
10:08I'm sorry, Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington, the headless ghost quickly responded.
10:14I was just trying to entertain the children.
10:16You'd better be, nearly headless Nick said coldly.
10:21The headless ghost, unfazed, added, of course, I sincerely hope that you'll finally join the
10:27headless hunt this year. Nick gave him a blank look before turning and walking through a nearby
10:32wall without another word. The interruption left an awkward silence hanging in the air,
10:37and the headless ghost shrugged, looking around at the students.
10:40Well, it's time for the sorting ceremony, anyway. Get ready, kids, and I'll see you later.
10:49With that, the headless ghost drifted through the wall, heading for the Great Hall.
10:54Though the crowd felt a slight pang of disappointment at the abrupt end of the performance,
10:58their excitement for the sorting ceremony kept the mood high.
11:02Most of the students were buzzing with anticipation,
11:05eagerly whispering to each other about what was to come. Except for Kanna.
11:10Unlike the others, she hadn't paid attention to the ghost show at all.
11:15Instead, she had retreated into a corner, her face pale and her posture tense.
11:21She radiated an air of quiet despair, though, unfortunately, no one seemed to notice.
11:27Moments later, Professor McGonagall returned, her expression stern.
11:32I was only gone for a moment, and you've already made such a mess, she scolded, her voice cool but firm.
11:39Your laughter could be heard all the way in the Great Hall.
11:43Was something really that funny, or do you think the house system is a joke?
11:47Though her voice wasn't loud, the effect was immediate.
11:51The room fell silent, and every head bowed as the students tried to avoid her sharp gaze.
11:57After a tense minute, Professor McGonagall continued,
12:00The house system is a very serious matter. I expect you to treat it with the respect it deserves.
12:08Now, form a single file and follow me.
12:11In less than a minute, the students scrambled to form a neat line, quiet as mice.
12:17They were ready to follow Professor McGonagall, the laughter from earlier now a distant memory.
12:21Kanya also shuffled forward like a zombie, her pale face and stiff movements making her look more like
12:28one of the ghosts than a first-year student. They walked out of the room, passed through the foyer,
12:34and through another pair of double doors, finally entering the luxurious auditorium.
12:39Compared to the hall, the auditorium was even more magnificent.
12:43It was so vast that it was almost overwhelming. Even with four long tables filled with students,
12:50the space didn't feel crowded at all. The tables were adorned with golden plates and goblets,
12:56and thousands of floating candles illuminated the room. Above them, the velvety black ceiling was
13:02dotted with stars and drifting clouds, mesmerizing everyone who looked up.
13:07Someone whispered to their companion, It's like magic in here.
13:10It looks just like the sky outside. I read about it in Hogwarts, a history.
13:17Kyle glanced in the direction of the voice but quickly lost interest when he saw it was a boy
13:22speaking. A shame. If he had started at Hogwarts a year later, he could have been friends with Hermione.
13:30The group moved to the front of the auditorium and came to a stop. Higher up was the teacher's bench.
13:37In the middle sat Dumbledore, dressed in a purple robe, his silver-white hair and beard neatly groomed.
13:43He wore his signature half-moon glasses and gazed warmly at each new student.
13:49Seated next to him were the four heads of house.
13:52Slytherin's head, Severus Snape, with his greasy, slick hair.
13:56Ravenclaw's head, Phileas Flitick, who was notably short. Hufflepuff's seemingly kind head, Pomona Sprout
14:05and the head of Gryffindor, Professor McGonagall, whose seat was temporarily empty since she was
14:10overseeing the house sorting. In total, there were nearly twenty professors present for the opening
14:16banquet, but Kyle recognized fewer than ten of them, either from guesswork or intuition.
14:21He had no recollection of the others, but that was understandable. Hogwarts was so large,
14:28and if only a handful of professors were memorable, it wouldn't have been enough.
14:32Moreover, half of the ones he did recognize were already quite old,
14:36making that number even smaller. Kyle turned his attention away.
14:41Just then, Professor McGonagall placed a small square stool in front of the new
14:46students and set a patched, brown wizard's hat on it. Well, brown was an approximation,
14:51the hat was so filthy that a small cloud of dust puffed up when McGonagall lightly placed it down.
14:58In the candlelight, the hat gleamed with a worn, dull shine. It was impossible to tell its original
15:04color under such conditions. Kyle was sure that if this hat wasn't the sorting hat and somehow ended
15:10up in his house, either he or Chris would meet their end. Or maybe Diana would kill them both.
15:17Channel Dream Novel. Chapter 18, Heavenly Music.
15:22The entire auditorium fell silent. The older students from the other grades eagerly watched,
15:28waiting for the show to begin, while the new students nervously eyed the dirty,
15:33tattered hat as if a troll might leap out of it at any moment. Then, without warning, the hat began to
15:39wriggle. Its tip swayed side to side, while the brim undulated up and down, as if it were attempting to
15:45dance. But the more Kyle observed, the more he felt that something was off. How to describe it?
15:53Whoever had designed this sequence of movements clearly had no idea what they were doing.
15:59It reminded him of a flounder, a particularly unattractive one at that, flailing around
16:04awkwardly. And unlike the more graceful, fluid movements he'd expect, this one was stiff,
16:10clumsy, and lacking any sense of finesse. It was also considerably uglier.
16:17The sorting hat, apparently aware that dancing wasn't its strong suit, soon stopped its movements.
16:22Instead, it split open a mouth-like gap and began to hum softly before launching into its song.
16:30Oh, you may not think I'm pretty. But don't judge on what you see.
16:35I'll eat myself if you can find. A smarter hat than me.
16:40You can keep your bowlers black. Your top hat sleek and tall.
16:45For I'm the Hogwarts sorting hat. And I can cap them all.
16:49There's nothing hidden in your head. The sorting hat can't see. So try me on and I will tell you.
16:58Where you ought to be. You might belong in Gryffindor.
17:02Where dwell the brave at heart. Their daring, nerve, and chivalry.
17:08Set Gryffindors apart. You might belong in Hufflepuff.
17:12Where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true. And unafraid of toil.
17:20Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw. If you've a ready mind.
17:25Where those of wit and learning. Will always find their kind. Or perhaps in Slytherin.
17:32You'll make your real friends. Those cunning folk use any means.
17:37To achieve their ends. So put me on. Don't be afraid. And don't get in a flap.
17:46You're in safe hands, though I have none. For I'm a thinking cap.
17:52When the song ended, thunderous applause erupted throughout the auditorium.
17:56It was clear that the students in the wizarding world were quite polite when it came to tradition.
18:01The sorting hat bowed deeply toward each of the four tables, then remained still, no longer moving.
18:08Although the sorting hat song was a bit difficult to understand,
18:12the new students gradually figured out that the sorting, simply involved wearing the hat.
18:17This realization brought a sense of relief to many.
18:21Compared to the wild rumors they'd heard, just wearing a hat seemed easy enough.
18:25Sure, the hat was dirty, old, and not particularly appealing, but it would only be for a brief moment,
18:32they wouldn't have to wear it for long. Professor McGonagall stepped forward, holding a parchment in her hand.
18:40When I call your name, you will put on the hat, sit on the stool, and wait to be sorted.
18:45She glanced at the parchment. Thomas Albright.
18:49A blonde boy with his head held high strode confidently over to the stool, placed the hat on his head, and,
18:56after a few moments, the sorting hat announced, Ravenclaw.
19:00The boy looked pleased as he removed the sorting hat.
19:04Despite being sorted into Ravenclaw, he couldn't resist walking over to the Gryffindor table,
19:09where the applause was the loudest at that moment.
19:12Marietta Edgecombe.
19:14A little girl bounded up excitedly, grabbed the sorting hat,
19:18and placed it on her head.
19:20Ravenclaw, the hat declared.
19:23Oh, that's great.
19:25The first new student being sorted into Gryffindor had already thrilled the Gryffindors,
19:29and the young eagles were ecstatic, cheering so loudly it seemed like the ceiling might lift off.
19:35Katie Bell.
19:37This time, a nervous young girl rushed up, hurriedly jamming the sorting hat onto her head.
19:42In her fluster, she pushed it down too hard, causing her head to poke out of the hat,
19:48with only her neck exposed.
19:51Ha ha ha.
19:52The entire hall erupted in laughter.
19:55Professor McGonagall sighed and quickly stepped forward to adjust the hat for her.
20:00Thanks, Professor McGonagall, I thought I was going to suffocate, Katie said with relief.
20:06The sorting hat gave a nod to Professor McGonagall.
20:10Without a doubt, Gryffindor.
20:13A deafening cheer burst from the Gryffindor table at the far left of the hall.
20:17Fred and George Weasley stood on their stools, whistling in excitement,
20:21it was clear they had taken an instant liking to Katie Bell.
20:25She rushed down the stairs, her face flushed with embarrassment.
20:29The sorting continued, but Professor McGonagall decided it was best to oversee it more closely,
20:35just in case there was another mishap.
20:38Instead of stepping aside as she had earlier, she stood behind the stool,
20:42holding the sorting hat in one hand and the parchment in the other.
20:46Cho Chang.
20:48An Asian girl calmly walked up to the stool and sat down.
20:52Professor McGonagall carefully placed the sorting hat on her head.
20:56Ravenclaw.
20:57Oh.
20:59For the third time, the sorting hat called out the name of Ravenclaw,
21:03sending the young students of that house into a frenzy.
21:07Some stood on their stools, kicking their feet in excitement,
21:10while others grabbed flowers from the table decorations and tossed them into the air.
21:15Their usual reserved demeanor vanished as they erupted into wild cheers.
21:20Three.
21:21We've already got three new students, and the sorting's just begun.
21:25Ravenclaw's going to rise this year.
21:29The professors on stage didn't intervene at first, simply watching the excitement with smiles on their faces.
21:36However, when the students began tossing plates in their enthusiasm,
21:39Professor McGonagall stepped forward, her expression stern.
21:44The effect was immediate.
21:45The young eagles, who had been full of wild energy moments ago, instantly quieted down,
21:51as though they'd been doused with cold water.
21:55Their transformation from jubilant eagles to meek quails was almost comical as they sat back down at their table, behaving once again.
22:02Seeing the effect of her presence, Professor McGonagall's expression softened, and she returned to the parchment in her hand.
22:10Omative Rowell
22:11After a brief pause, the sorting had announced, slithering.
22:17The new students were slowly being sorted, and the crowd of first-years was thinning out.
22:22Kyle stood among them, waiting patiently for his name to be called.
22:26But for some reason, he felt an irritating itch between his shoulder blades, as if someone were poking him.
22:33Instinctively, he turned his head and found Kanna glaring at him, her face flushed with anger.
22:39This wasn't the usual shy look she wore, this time, her fury was unmistakable.
22:46Her usually timid demeanor had transformed into something far more intense,
22:50her teeth grinding together as if she might pounce on him at any moment.
22:54Ahem.
22:56Lovely weather, isn't it?
22:58Kyle muttered, clearing his throat as though he hadn't seen her, trying to act nonchalant.
23:04He turned back around and casually edged forward, hoping to put some distance between them.
23:09But his attempt to escape was futile.
23:12There was only so much space in the room, and the crowd had thinned out too much for him to hide.
23:18No matter where he moved, Kanna's eyes followed him,
23:21her gaze making him feel like a rat trapped on a hot tin roof.
23:25Just as the tension became unbearable, a voice rang out.
23:30Kyle Chopper.
23:31For the first time in his life, Kyle found Professor McGonagall's voice to be the most
23:36beautiful sound in the world, like music from heaven, offering him salvation from his predicament.
23:42To be honest, if there were ever another election for headmaster, he would vote for Professor McGonagall
23:48without hesitation.
23:50Channel Dream Novel.
23:52Chapter 19, Hufflepuff.
23:55Kyle didn't waste a second.
23:57With three quick strides, he was up on the stage, escaping the tension he'd felt under Kanna's
24:03watchful glare.
24:04Once on the stage, he let out a sigh of relief, patting his chest.
24:09He turned to Professor McGonagall and said sincerely,
24:12Thank you, Professor.
24:15His sudden show of politeness seemed to catch her off guard.
24:19It took her a moment to react, but then she gave a small shake of her head, saying,
24:23It's my duty.
24:25Still, her stern expression softened noticeably.
24:29Before placing the sorting hat on Kyle's head, she even took the extra step of brushing off
24:34some of the dust from the hat.
24:36Such a polite child, she thought, I hope he can be sorted into Gryffindor.
24:41Gryffindor was in desperate need of more model students like him.
24:45Last year, she had secretly wished to bring Cedric Diggory into her house,
24:50but both Professor Sprout and Dumbledore had objected.
24:53This year, she was hopeful again.
24:55As she placed the sorting hat on Kyle's head, McGonagall looked at him intently,
25:01silently hoping the sorting hat would finally make the right call.
25:05Strange, very strange, a soft voice whispered in Kyle's ear as soon as the hat was on.
25:11You sincerely thanked her.
25:14That's unusual.
25:16Are you really one of those good kids?
25:18Of course I am.
25:20Kyle responded seriously.
25:23You can ask around.
25:25The Weasley family and even Mr. Scamander have said I'm the most polite and well-behaved
25:29child they've ever met.
25:31So please, don't slander me.
25:34Otherwise, I'll complain about you, even if you are just a hat.
25:39The sorting hat fell into a rare silence.
25:42Its brim wobbled back and forth, as if unsure how to respond or perhaps struggling with a decision.
25:47After a long pause, the hat finally spoke again.
25:52Your shamelessness reminds me of the old days, a thousand years ago, back when I was just an
25:57ordinary hat on Godric's head.
26:00Well then, how about Gryffindor?
26:03I feel like that's where you should be.
26:06But no, it's not quite right for you.
26:08I think, Kyle began, but the sorting hat cut him off.
26:13Let me think, the hat interrupted, mulling over its options.
26:18Maybe Slytherin would be better.
26:20You could achieve great things there, no question about it.
26:24That.
26:26Hold on, hold on, the sorting hat interrupted him again.
26:30No, Slytherin doesn't feel quite right either.
26:32Besides, if I send you there, Snape will probably pour some strange potion on me later.
26:39Let me think.
26:41Dumbledore's put me in a difficult spot this time.
26:45If only Azkaban or Nurmengard were part of Hogwarts.
26:49The sorting hat sounded like it was joking, but Kyle couldn't find it funny at all.
26:54What's going on?
26:56He hadn't done anything that bad, at most, he just scared Kanna a little earlier.
27:02Could that really get him sent to Nurmengard?
27:05How was that fair?
27:07Plenty of wizards did far worse things, and they weren't being shipped off to wizarding prisons.
27:12Kyle realized he needed to do something, fast.
27:17If the sorting hat actually shouted out, Nurmengard, it'd be a disaster.
27:22Azkaban was at least under Ministry control, and you couldn't just be sent there on a whim.
27:27But Nurmengard, that was different.
27:29Dumbledore had connections, and if anyone could pull some strings, it was him.
27:36Deep down, Kyle suspected the sorting hat's remarks were simply a jab at him for his earlier comment about filing a complaint.
27:42But still, what if?
27:45What if the hat, with its thousand years of history and independent consciousness, decided to make things interesting and call out something ridiculous, just for a laugh?
27:55Who knew what went on in that ancient mind?
27:57That, Kyle began, putting on his most harmless smile.
28:02That was a fantastic song you sang earlier.
28:06Especially the first few lines, concise lyrics, light tone.
28:11Way better than the clichés from the Weird Sisters.
28:13The sorting hat immediately perked up.
28:17You think so too?
28:19I've been saying that for ages.
28:22It took me a whole year to come up with it.
28:25But Dumbledore never appreciated it.
28:28He even tried to get me to sing the school song.
28:31That old bee.
28:33Ah oh.
28:33Kyle didn't feel comfortable badmouthing the headmaster, even if he wasn't around to hear it.
28:40Clearing his throat awkwardly, he decided to steer the conversation in a safer direction.
28:46By the way, that song of yours, there's something about it that sounds familiar.
28:51Is it, perhaps, in the rap style?
28:54Rap style?
28:56The sorting hat sounded curious.
28:59What does that mean?
29:00You don't know.
29:01You've invented it yourself, impressive.
29:05Kyle exclaimed, feigning shock.
29:08Rap is a style of muggle music that's very popular.
29:12Muggle music, the sorting hat seemed even more intrigued.
29:16Yes, I think it would suit you perfectly.
29:19If you want, I could get you something related to it for Christmas, Kyle offered sincerely.
29:25Okay, wait, no.
29:28The sorting hat caught itself.
29:31We've got to focus.
29:33It's already been a while, and you must be hungry.
29:36Let's not keep dinner waiting.
29:39Clearing its imaginary throat, the hat resumed, now, where were we?
29:44Kyle grinned and reminded it, you said I was polite and well-behaved, but that neither Gryffindor,
29:50Slytherin, nor Ravenclaw felt quite right.
29:53Huh?
29:54Did I mention Ravenclaw, the hat murmured, sounding momentarily confused.
30:00Oh, right.
30:02You're absolutely correct.
30:04In that case, the decision is obvious.
30:08Hufflepuff.
30:10The moment the sorting hat announced Kyle's house, the hall erupted into applause.
30:15Even the teachers at the staff table joined in.
30:18The sorting, which had taken a record-breaking 20 minutes, easily the longest in Hogwarts history,
30:24was finally over.
30:25And not a moment too soon, as everyone was starving by now.
30:30Normally, the feast would have already started by this time.
30:34The Hufflepuff table was especially lively.
30:37Cedric Diggory, grinning broadly, rushed over to give Kyle an enthusiastic hug.
30:42Great, Kyle.
30:45I knew you'd end up in Hufflepuff.
30:48Kyle laughed.
30:50The sorting hat got great tastes.
30:53Huh?
30:54Cedric looked momentarily puzzled, unsure of what Kyle meant.
30:59But Kyle just smiled and didn't elaborate.
31:02At that moment, several older students approached to shake Kyle's hand.
31:07Judging by the badges on their robes, they were Hufflepuff prefects.
31:12It was a tradition to welcome new students, while also helping prefects get to know the
31:16incoming first years.
31:18Kyle greeted them warmly and then took the empty seat next to Cedric.
31:23The prefect who had been sitting there graciously offered up his spot after realizing Kyle and
31:27Cedric were already acquainted.
31:30Once seated, Kyle joined the rest of the hall in looking back at the sorting hat.
31:35But deep down, his decision had already been made.
31:39He had always wanted to be in Hufflepuff.
31:42After all, Newt Scamander had been a Hufflepuff, and so had his father, Chris.
31:47As someone who loved magical creatures, Hufflepuff was the natural choice.
31:53Plus, Kyle wasn't interested in dwelling on Dark Wizards or Voldemort right now.
31:57He wanted to fully embrace the joy and magic of Hogwarts life, and there was no better place for
32:03that than Hufflepuff, with its enthusiastic and loyal community.
32:08Besides, the Hufflepuff dormitory was conveniently located right next to the kitchen,
32:13an undeniable bonus.
32:15Channel dream novel.
32:17Chapter 20, A Failed Prank.
32:20After taking his seat at the Hufflepuff table, Kyle felt an overwhelming sense of relief wash over
32:26him.
32:27Before the sorting ceremony, he'd been anxious, uncertain about where he might end up.
32:32But now, with everything settled and him officially a part of Hogwarts, a true sense of belonging took hold.
32:39It was a wonderful feeling.
32:41Kyle rested his chin in his left hand, leaning his arm casually on the table as he watched the
32:46rest of the sorting ceremony unfold.
32:49The anticipation for dinner was growing, but he felt at ease, leisurely enjoying the moment.
32:55Because his sorting had taken so long, many students around the auditorium were curiously glancing in
33:01his direction.
33:03Several witches, noticing Kyle sitting and chatting with Cedric, exchanged frustrated looks with their
33:08classmates.
33:10Why did all the good-looking ones go to Hufflepuff?
33:13They seemed to think, grinding their teeth in envy.
33:17Meanwhile, over at the Gryffindor table, Fred and George Weasley were similarly upset.
33:23Why did Kyle go to Hufflepuff?
33:26Fred groaned, pounding his thigh in frustration.
33:29Now we can't use the welcome ceremony we prepared.
33:33Shut up, Fred.
33:35I need a moment to process this, George muttered, scratching his head.
33:40Honestly, even if Kyle had gone to Slytherin, I could've handled it.
33:45But Hufflepuff?
33:47How's that even possible?
33:49Yeah.
33:50Fred agreed.
33:51Kyle.
33:53Loyal.
33:55Kind.
33:56The sorting hat must've gone senile.
33:59Before they could continue lamenting, a newly sorted Gryffindor sat down in the empty seat next
34:04to them.
34:05The next moment, a loud yelp pierced the hull.
34:09Ow.
34:11Everyone's heads turned as the new Gryffindor student leapt into the air, clutching his bottom
34:15and looking like a startled Wigan tree boatruckel.
34:18He bolted from his seat, running around in circles, wailing in pain.
34:23It was only then that the hull realized what had happened.
34:27A small, round object, about the size of a Quidditch snitch, was attached to the back of the student,
34:33biting down on his bottom with a set of sharp teeth.
34:37Wait, that ball looks kinda familiar, Fred mumbled as the scene unfolded.
34:42He glanced at George, a sudden realization dawning on him.
34:46George, didn't you put the biting ball away?
34:50George, wide-eyed, replied, no.
34:53I thought you did.
34:55The twins exchanged a horrified look before both turned to the seat where the student had been sitting.
35:01Sure enough, it was empty.
35:03Oh, dammit, Fred muttered, scratching his head in distress.
35:08That was our entire savings.
35:10The biting ball was a new prank item Fred and George had purchased from the Zonko's joke shop at a steep price.
35:18It could disguise itself as a cushion, lying in wait for an unsuspecting victim to sit on it.
35:24The problem?
35:25It cost them three galleons, a hefty sum for the mischievous pair.
35:30But they had been determined to make Kyle's sorting memorable.
35:34They had pooled all their savings to buy the biting ball,
35:37preparing an unforgettable surprise for their younger brother.
35:41During the sorting ceremony, they'd stealthily set it up on an empty seat nearby,
35:45confident Kyle would be sorted into Gryffindor.
35:49Once he was, they'd leave him to sit on the disguised cushion, delivering the perfect prank.
35:54Everything had been set up flawlessly.
35:57Even if Kyle were sorted into another house,
36:00they could simply retrieve the cushion afterward without much fuss.
36:04But fate had other plans.
36:05Kyle had been sorted into Hufflepuff, the last house they ever expected.
36:12The shock of it had left Fred and George too stunned to retrieve the cushion in time.
36:17And now, instead of pranking Kyle,
36:19they watched helplessly as the biting ball caused chaos in the hall,
36:23gnawing at the rear of an innocent Gryffindor first year.
36:26Fred, do you think we can get the biting ball back?
36:29George asked, his eyes fixed on the back of the unfortunate new student.
36:35He felt a pang of regret.
36:37Three galleons, that could have bought an entire box of dumb bombs.
36:42How could he not feel sad?
36:44Fred glanced over at Professor McGonagall, who was already heading toward the new student, and sighed.
36:51I don't think we can get it back.
36:53The two brothers sighed in unison, their hopes deflated.
36:57Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall reached the new Gryffindor,
37:00casually removed the biting ball from his robe, and checked him over.
37:05Fortunately, the young wizard was unharmed, and his robes weren't damaged either.
37:09It was a standard harmless prank, after all.
37:14Recognizing the familiar tricks and the tools used in this sort of mischief,
37:18McGonagall didn't need to guess who the culprits were.
37:22She shot a piercing glare straight at Fred and George.
37:25However, since the sorting ceremony wasn't yet over, she said nothing more than,
37:3020 points deducted from Gryffindor, before turning around and heading back to the stage.
37:35The new student, still shaken, was escorted back to the table by Percy.
37:41After checking his robes three more times to ensure he was truly safe,
37:45he cautiously sat back down.
37:47Across the hall, Kyle, seeing the miserable expressions on Fred and George's faces,
37:53couldn't resist a smirk.
37:55He extended a middle finger in their direction, his amusement playing.
37:59Kyle knew without a doubt that the biting ball had been meant for him.
38:03The twins had been planning to prank him for ages, and now their mischief had backfired,
38:08caught by Professor McGonagall.
38:11Poetic justice, he thought smugly.
38:14No, George, Kyle's too arrogant, Fred muttered, his face flushing red with anger.
38:20While many at Hogwarts wouldn't understand Kyle's rude gesture,
38:24Fred knew all too well what it meant.
38:27After all, every time Kyle had gotten the upper hand on them,
38:31this had been his signature insult.
38:33Don't worry, Fred.
38:35As long as Kyle's at Hogwarts, we still have a chance, George said, equally furious.
38:42His ears had turned red with frustration.
38:45But there was nothing they could do at the moment.
38:48Professor McGonagall's warning glare was enough to make them hold off on any retaliation for now.
38:54They could only respond by flipping Kyle off from across the room,
38:57a small act of defiance.
39:00For the moment, they suppressed their desire for revenge and tried to avoid looking at Kyle's smug face.
39:06Kyle didn't care about their gestures.
39:09To him, it was just the final, pitiful resistance of two sore losers.
39:14He didn't take it seriously.
39:17He knew Fred and George wouldn't let this go easily.
39:19Even now, they were probably plotting how to get back at him.
39:25But so what?
39:27In their eleven-year war of pranks, Kyle had almost always come out on top.
39:32The only times he'd lost were back when he was younger, and Charlie Weasley, with his seniority
39:37and size, had tipped the balance in the twins' favor.
39:40But now Charlie was occupied with his graduation exams and Quidditch, leaving Fred and George without
39:46their strongest ally. Without him, they had no real backup.
39:51What are they going to do? Ask Ron for help.
39:55Kyle thought with a chuckle. If that was the case, defeating them would be even easier.
40:02With his near flawless record against the twins, Kyle was unafraid of whatever they might come up with
40:07next. Now the fun in this clip is over.
