At least 29 dead as floods, landslides hit Congo's capital

At least 29 people died in Kinshasa after heavy weekend rains triggered floods and landslides, the Democratic Republic of Congo's ministry said late Sunday, June 15.

Drone footage on Monday, June 16, showed flooded streets and a landslide zone where ten people perished. Families were seen mourning amid debris of collapsed buildings.

Property owner Madeleine Chado, who lost ten tenants, was observed climbing over wreckage of her destroyed houses. Neighbors recounted dramatic early morning scenes as the disaster unfolded.
