00:00A'udhu Billahi Minash Shaitan Ranehe, Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem.

00:07On the subject of the levels of the nafs, who knows himself will know his Lord.

00:21There's a medical school that's why we are learning these subjects and it's important

00:28to know ourselves to understand our proximity to our Lord.

00:34That because of the faiz of these shaykhs and the blessing and energy that dressing upon

00:40them people become drunk thinking they've achieved something and they want us to understand

00:49these understandings to realize where we are.

00:53When you're truthful to yourself and it's not for the shaykh to call you out but for

00:58you to understand yourself and the ability to understand.

01:03If you don't understand these teachings and you're distracted then you won't understand

01:08what's happening in your life and most likely you'll run away.

01:17Those whom are inspired by Allah to achieve what Allah wants them to achieve then they're

01:25studying.

01:26They're understanding and they're going at a pace to truly understand themselves with sincerity

01:33and change.

01:34But they don't know why they're studying, they're not paying attention.

01:38Then when a test comes that same day they will actually come and ask,

01:41Oh my gosh I was just insulted, you know where were you when these discussions were taking

01:49place?

01:52That's not good and in any school you go to you fail like that.

01:56So we'll start again.

01:58This first level of development of man expresses itself in selfishness, arrogance, hardness of

02:14heart, oppression of others, lack of gratitude, ambition, stinginess, envy, anger, cynicism, laziness.

02:25At this stage the rational self and human conscious have been overtaken by carnal desires.

02:35This is for us our own diagnosis like a medical class.

02:39You read what they describe these awliyaullah from teachings of Prophet ﷺ.

02:44This is the immense science of the self.

02:47So when you see somebody of these characteristics they're nafs amara that they are not accepting

02:55anything from the heavens and their understanding is to enjoy this life with whatever ability

03:02they can regardless of who's affected, who's helped and who's harmed by it.

03:11Like TV now, there's not a television channel that they call news and it's not news it's

03:17just this.

03:19It's a whole bunch of nafs amara people sitting in front of a camera displaying all these characteristics

03:28what they call talk shows, commentary, there's no more news on the television there's nobody

03:32reporting news.

03:34But just one after another doing every type bad characteristic, why?

03:39So that when you watch it you begin to absorb it and you think this becomes a normal for

03:45you.

03:46That you'll go out and you'll do this.

03:48If you are doing these things then you're at the level of nafs amara.

03:53So you don't have to admit to your shaykh what think, how high you think you are.

03:58You just read this and say oh that's where I am, yes this is your maqam.

04:09This nafs is our worst enemy who is living inside of us, dominating and tyrannizing us

04:14and keeping our human soul imprisoned and forgotten in the depths of our subconscious.

04:19Because we allow the nafs to lean towards material values, to take pleasure only in worldly life,

04:25our nafs has become almost animal-like while its shape remains that of a human being.

04:33So then understanding these and then we ask ourself, am I a that?

04:39So when people understand they have a lot of bad desires, a lot of bad characteristics,

04:43they're not changing their characteristics, then this is to understand that this nafs of

04:49mind is at that level and it continuously pulling me towards the badness.

04:55So we come to tariqah because they're showing there's no help for you with yourself, there's

05:04no self-help.

05:06Has to be through Allah giving guidance.

05:08When Allah gives guidance He dispatches the lion tamers.

05:13So that to begin to send an energy, a teaching, a reality, stop what you're doing.

05:20And by accompanying these associations and watching the teachings, taking the faiz and the lights

05:25of these teachings, making the madad and the taweezes and all of these things or all the

05:32implementations to lift amara out.

05:37And to take the servant out of a deceitful character and to acknowledge Allah .

05:44To feel it, to love it and to understand the Divinely Presence inshaAllah.

05:48Now that if we rise from that bad characteristic then 99% of those in tariqahs are trying to

05:58stay in this category inshaAllah.

06:02This is the second step in the development of man where man becomes aware of his actions

06:10and regrets his wrongdoings.

06:13He tries to follow the obligations of his religion yet he is not able to totally stop doing wrong

06:19because it is very difficult to break the habits of his previous state.

06:23This makes his behaviour hypocritical.

06:29This is important understanding, the hypocrisy.

06:34But it's not for you to change the prescription.

06:38They want you to be and to acknowledge your hypocrisy.

06:41Not you change it without, change my image and do every bad thing.

06:45No, they want you to be a long bearded pious looking person being obnoxious and angry with

06:51everybody so that you can feel shame.

06:54The shaming will stop you from it.

06:57So when growing up we grow our beard real quick, as soon as my mom would see Mawlana she

07:04saying, why this guy with this beard he gets so angry?

07:13Every single time.

07:15There was not a time she could spare me from humiliation.

07:17In front of everybody, 40-50 people, Mawlana I have a question, why they have beard and

07:22hat and they're so angry?

07:24The solution wasn't you take your hat off and shave your beard and say, no I want to

07:31be an angry person just don't want anyone to know it.

07:35No, this was a protection and a reminder of my hypocrisy.

07:42And at some point you feel like, this is horrible Ya Rabbi and you cry.

07:46That don't let me be and to die as a munafiq where I have this image of my beard, my turban,

07:53my company, my shaykh I'm doing all these things and doing every type of horrific act.

08:00They want you to feel your hypocrisy and they cry out to Allah , remove this hypocrisy

08:07from me so that I'm worthy of what I'm trying to follow and the image I'm trying to display.

08:13But shaitan comes whispers, now we're going to he whisper, oh take it off, leave hypocrisy.

08:20What do you mean leave hypocrisy?

08:22Then you're telling me to be a criminal again, be a robber?

08:27No, leave hypocrisy means don't do the bad actions.

08:31Not I'm going to continue to do the bad actions but I just don't want to look like a Muhammadan.

08:36If we are capable of leaving the bad actions and not having arrogance and not having pride

08:46and this arrogance and pride is based on ocean of hypocrisy.

08:52The arrogance and pride of trying to promote and there's nothing there and you know the

08:57badness that you do and then promote yourself as good.

09:05Its remedy is the presence and strong presence of the shaykh.

09:12For if you are not strong in the presence of the shaykh, you will fall into the deceit

09:18of shaytan.

09:19In Saan al-Kamil, by author and spiritual guide, Shaykh Nirjan Marahmadi, describes that in order

09:47order to be known, the Divine created a sublime treasure for all of creation, the glorious

10:35It's important to know ourselves, to understand our proximity to our Lord.

10:59Thinking that because of the energies, because of the strength of the shaykhs that we reach

11:04somewhere and the reminder is, no you're taking the faiz of shaykhs that reach somewhere

11:13but to know yourself is to know your Lord.

11:16When you see what category you fit and what the character and the characteristics of the

11:22nafs are then much easier for us to understand and to be humble with our understanding.

11:29The balanced or inspired self, the third level, is the state in which the good has begun to

11:39predominate in this struggle.

11:41The tyranny of egoism has been overcome and a more or less integrated self is attained.

11:47The quality awakened here is the renunciation of worldly longings and ambitions.

11:53Although it is only the third level of human development in the Sufi system, it is no minor

11:57accomplishment.

11:59It requires a great deal of personal, psychological work and of course the blessings of Allah.

12:05This is a stage where the seeker is rewarded for his efforts, persistence and obedience

12:09to his highest self and his spiritual teacher.

12:12Now he occasionally receives messages from inside of himself, soundless, wordless inspirations

12:17which give him direction, encouragement and the strength to continue in his advancement.

12:22Yet there are still grave dangers.

12:24The devil is capable of imitating divine inspirations.

12:28So, we reach a point in which we try to control the obvious bad, the arrogance, the wildness

12:41of the character, the ocean of hypocrisy.

12:44Everyone's going to go through it, if you don't feel that you've been through it then

12:47maybe you're not there yet.

12:49There's no way to leave it, you don't jump over that ocean.

12:53The ocean of hypocrisy has to be felt that you're trying to exemplify good character and

12:59you're yelling at home.

13:02You're trying to exemplify good character, you're yelling at work where you think nobody

13:06sees you.

13:07You're doing bizarre things on the internet.

13:10All of these things is ocean of hypocrisy.

13:14Giving advice to people when you have yourself know that you're completely empty.

13:20But you're crazy and going giving advice for marital life and people's lives.

13:27Most psychiatrists are crazy and they're giving people advice.

13:31So from an ocean of nifaq and hypocrisy to give people advice when the advice should have

13:38been for yourself.

13:41So then tariqah comes and says, advise only yourself, talk only to yourself, build yourself.

13:47So that Allah doesn't keep looking at you as a hypocrite.

13:54That's why then the path was based on silence.

13:57Don't look at the one who talks and think, I should be talking too.

14:02Put a rock in your mouth.

14:03The one who's talking is in big trouble with Allah for his hypocrisy or her hypocrisy.

14:10It's not about that.

14:13You want to stop the hypocrisy.

14:15You're on a path in which to build yourself.

14:18Every time you make a mistake, astaghfirullah.

14:21Every time your family is angry with you, forgive me, forgive me, ask them for forgiveness

14:25and then begin to pray to Allah for forgiveness.

14:29Don't be, take me out of this ocean of the munafiqeen, don't let me to die in this state

14:34of munafiqeen.

14:35So, we have to traverse.

14:37You know this is like the Siratul Mustaqeem and say, I'm not going to go over the fire.

14:42No, everyone walks the line, nobody has left it.

14:47So everything you do and identify yourself but you're angry and explosive and fiery and

14:54all these characteristics that we described then Allah looks to you, you're hypocrite.

15:00So then you should be crying every night to get out of hypocrisy.

15:04Not that you take off your Islam but you take off shaitan.

15:10Don't leave Allah to run into the hands of shaitan but to throw out shaitan so that you

15:16are with Rahman.

15:18The next level that they begin to step into that ocean is that the overwhelming

15:24fires and energies, their practices and all of their disciplines are now moving in onto

15:31them, dressing them, blessing them and the knowledges they acquired are real for them

15:37and they have a firmness in their faith and they firmly fought against the hypocrisy of

15:43their character and they didn't speak until they were ordered to speak because they knew

15:50their hypocrisy.

15:55It is during this period that the relation between the seeker and his master has to be the closest.

16:02They are like the symptoms of a disease which a sick person must reveal to the doctor in

16:05whom he has confidence.

16:08Just as he heeds the advice given or the diet prescribed or diligently takes the medicine

16:12given, if he obeys the counsel of his master he will be able to advance.

16:19Another affliction during this period is a change in understanding and sensibility.

16:23It is as if he forgets all that he knew, even his idea of himself.

16:27New impressions do not correspond to the old ones.

16:30He is apt to see things differently, to misunderstand them, to make mistakes.

16:35He feels as if he does not exist.

16:37He may imagine that he has reached the final level but this feeling has nothing to do with

16:41that high state.

16:42He should realize that it is a state of helplessness, of emptiness, a state of desperate need.

16:49This is the last level of danger for the self for it is still vulnerable to descending.

16:54Means then its survival is a strong relation with the shaykh.

17:00Why?

17:01So that you're not living in your imaginary world, you're not to listen to your inspirations,

17:05you're not to listen and follow your inspirations.

17:08Your inspirations are only for your ibadah.

17:14You don't make any decisions based on what you feel is coming to your heart because in

17:19this training they're teaching, it's not your heart that you're dealing with.

17:25You're not in Divinely Presence, you're in the presence of shaitan and your nafs, the two

17:30shariq.

17:31And they're trying to inspire you to go and do things without asking your living guide.

17:43your house.

17:45These are just major decisions in which you're going to make a decision on leaving the tariqah,

17:50I'm leaving the zikr, I'm doing this, I'm going to go now seek out this person to help

17:56me with this magic, you're not supposed to do anything of that nature other than deal

18:02with your shaykh because now shaitan is trying to play with you in religious and pious matters.

18:10I've said that's why you see all the people in a community start to make their own centres.

18:17They have one community masjid they go make another masjid.

18:20They think they've been inspired by God to do that to break a community for what?

18:28This is the bad ego and that's when people are fooling prey to that because they don't

18:33have a shaykh.

18:34And when they have firmness with their guide it's not that they listen to him because

18:39nobody listens to the guide.

18:41But at least you can take his advice and say his advice seems to be very different than

18:46these two guys who are whispering in my ears because the one who's whispering is trying

18:52to fool us with deceit and in acts of piety.

18:58Like we said before take off your hypocrisy, no, no, no don't take off your hypocrisy wear

19:03it proudly and take shaitan off.

19:07Never leave Allah's way.

19:10You want to die in a state where you're completely following Allah's way.

19:16Not to follow the satanic way and that's how he fools people and thinking this is a religious

19:22inspiration.

19:23And there are many examples most of which you can't talk about onto the internet of unbelievable

19:29things that people are thinking they should do this, they should do that, they should

19:32do this.

19:33No, no, no these are you know these are just the wild whisperings of the nafs to make the

19:40student to fall into a hole and into an ocean of difficulty.

19:44We pray that Allah guide us this is a path into the cave in the heart of Sayyidina Muhammad

19:49ﷺ and that Allah dress us and bless us who knows himself will know his Lord.

19:56And this way of realities is to know myself, know my nafs, know what's happening and

20:02what tricks are coming upon me and then I have to leave.

20:0799.9% are in the ocean of hypocrisy and all night long they should be praying and we should

20:13be praying, Ya Rabbi take away nafah, take away all this hypocrisy, don't let me to

20:18die as a munafiq.
