00:00Nightly greetings one and all. Denise Osorio here, homegrown and happy to bring you PTV News Now.
00:12Tops on our evening stories at this time.
00:15Remember the adage, who needs an enemy when you've got family?
00:20Well, this latest NDI arrest and dismantling of an online child abuse slash sexual exploitation ring fits the bill.
00:28Earlier today, the National Bureau of Investigation, headed by its Chief Commissioner and Director Jaime Santiago, just busted an online child trafficking and abuse ring.
00:40In a formal presser in its Manila headquarters, the NBI presented a pair of sisters in and from Concepcion Tarlac who fell into an entrapment scheme of the NBI on serious allegations of online child abuse and sexual exploitation.
00:56The sisters are linked to one Swedish national and suspected child sexual offender, Heinz Henry Berglund.
01:05And when the link was verified beyond question, the NBI Violence Against Women and Children Division secured warrants to search, seize and study computer data seized from the homes of the suspects and their victims.
01:20A multi-agency team was then formed to arrest the suspects and rescue at least 10 minors.
01:27The sisters' suspects were presented to the press earlier this afternoon and will subsequently be charged with violations of Republic Acts 11930, 9208 as amended by Republic Act 11862 and Republic Act 7610.
01:44There is no greater market on the planet for illegal drugs other than the United States, whether it's heroin, cocaine, crystal meth, fentanyl or opioids.
01:57The hard truth is no one or nothing can ever eliminate the entry or supply of narcotics into the U.S. from outside to feed the voracious appetites of America's users, dependents and addicts.
02:12A naval officer though is working closely with federal, state, local and international partners to curb the flow and protect the American people as we hear more in this VOA feature report.
02:24On February 2nd, Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Doyle and a Coast Guard aircraft were patrolling south of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
02:35The Cutter stopped and boarded a GoFast vessel, seizing 2,000 pounds of cocaine and detaining three Venezuelan smugglers.
02:44Thanks to the crew of that Cutter and aircraft, they kept over $16 million of drugs off American streets.
02:54On January 23rd, the crew of Coast Guard Cutter was patrolling far off the coast of Mexico when the crew spotted a GoFast vessel with three outboard engines.
03:07And the boarding team seized six tons of cocaine valued at almost $100 million, and they detained 10 smugglers from Mexico and Ecuador.
03:18The interdiction of cocaine matters because the same cartels who smuggled cocaine produce and smuggled fentanyl.
03:32Cocaine is the cash crop for the cartels.
03:38Fentanyl is the leading cause of drug-related deaths in our country.
03:41But cocaine still kills upwards of 25,000 Americans every year.
03:48We are working alongside federal, state, local, tribal, and international partners to protect the American people and ensure our national security remains strong.
03:59At this moment, let's shift focus to my colleague in PTV's Baguio City Studios to get us up to speed on developments in the Cordilleras.
