00:00Europe's fading green parties met in Brussels to learn from their electoral setbacks and prepare for a comeback.
00:11The party wants to focus on a just transition that addresses citizens' concerns.
00:16To achieve this, the ecologists want to support a green investment plan.
00:20What definitely we need is to give concrete responses to the daily concerns,
00:26to the cost of living of the citizens, and this is what we try also to discuss this afternoon
00:32with an investment plan that we would like to promote at the European level.
00:37We believe that it is very important not to put in confrontation the defence and security budget
00:44with the just transition and the cost of living in a more social Europe.
00:49But that requires investments and political courage to go through.
00:54Meanwhile, at a time when simplification is the watchword of the European Commission,
00:59the party's co-president is concerned about the future of the Green Pact,
01:03the EU's roadmap for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
01:08I'm concerned. You know, that phrase, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, comes to mind.
01:15In other words, if we simplify European legislation, we cannot lose sight of why those laws are there.
01:24So, for instance, on corporate sustainability due diligence, this is to try and stop modern-day sweatshops in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
01:34The ecologists have suffered electoral setbacks in the European Parliament in Germany and Austria.
01:41According to Kieron Koff, this was due to the party's inability to grasp the issue of defence.
01:47On Friday, the Greens insisted on the need to look at security not only in terms of defence but also in terms of food and environmental security.
