They’re set to make historic gains in June’s European elections, but Europe’s rising right wing parties need to find unity if they are to wield greater influence on the EU stage, experts tell Euronews.

00:28Far-right parties are currently split into two groups,

00:32Identity and Democracy with Rassemblement Nationale,

00:35Liga and Alternative for a Dutchland.

00:38And European Conservatives and Reformists with Fratelli d'Italia,

00:43Vox and Law and Justice.

00:45What is in common among these parties?

00:48The first one is for sure the aversion against immigration.

00:52That is a very common element among these parties.

00:57The other one is Euroscepticism in the sense that

01:00all of them are against the fatal integration of European Union.

01:06The third one is the idea to represent the common people

01:12against liberal progressive establishment and against mainstream parties.

01:19Their deepest differences lie within foreign policies,

01:23their positions on the Ukraine war and the rule of law.

01:29Within ID you will find a lot of more pro-Russian parties

01:33while in ECR most parties are rather anti-Russian,

01:38rather stand with Ukraine in the current conflict.

01:42The Finnish radical right party even changed groups because of this issue.

01:48So they switched from ID to ECR.

01:51Both party groups have in recent years shifted in their degree of scepticism

01:57toward EU institutions in Brussels.

02:00Generally the parties in ID are more radical and more extreme sometimes also.

02:07They are really more far right.

02:09They are generally also more anti-European

02:12while in ECR you will also have some parties that are Eurosceptic

02:17but still quite constructive.

02:20Generally these parties also work within the European institutions

02:24and do not only oppose them.

02:27For this reason parties like Fratelli d'Italia are more likely to negotiate

02:31with the European People Party after the European elections.

02:35It is likely that the growth of the radical right will have an influence

02:39on EU policies like the Green Deal or migration.
