00:01The Attorney General Chambers has filed a notice of appeal against the High Court's decision to acquit former research assistant, Yusuf Browder, of drug trafficking and the possession of two imitation pistols.
00:14In a statement, the AGC said it filed a notice of appeal against the discharge and acquittal after carefully considering the judge's decision.
00:21Justice Jamil Hussein ruled on Thursday that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case on both charges as it was unable to prove all of the elements of the offences with credible evidence.
00:34Jamil ruled that prosecution had failed to prove that Yusuf had knowledge, custody and control of the drugs and fake pistols and ordered for Yusuf to be acquitted and discharged without being called to enter his defence.
00:47In 2024, Yusuf was accused of trafficking 305 grams of cannabis and possessing fake pistols, facing the death penalty and a year's jail or 5,000 ringgit fine, respectively.
01:00However, Yusuf's defence was that the drugs and pistols were planted to frame him.
