00:00So in 1st Corinthians 7
00:047 verse 1 now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me it is good for a man not to touch
00:18a woman nevertheless to avoid fornication let every man have his own wife and let every woman
00:25have her own husband so he starts out by saying he said it's okay for a woman for a man never to
00:32have a woman to never touch a woman he's saying but to avoid fornication to avoid that urge that
00:43desire that is put in our bodies that God gave us especially as men he's saying it would be better
00:50for you to have your own wife to avoid that if you're going to commit fornication it'd be better
00:57for you to have your own wife and let every woman have her own husband let the husband render unto
01:03the wife due benevolence and likewise also the wife unto the husband the wife hath no power of her own
01:11body but the husband and likewise also the husband hath no power of his own body but the wife so this is
01:21contrary just like a lot of the things of the bible to what the world would tell you the world would
01:28tell you hey lady that's your body you do with what you want that's not what the bible is teaching here
01:34the bible's teaching that as far as the husband wife relationship that the husband does not have
01:42power of his own body but the wife has power of his body and as far as the wife is that the husband has
01:52the power of the body and you say what does that mean well it's not that the wife is telling him what
01:57to do and the husband's telling her what to do as far as that but it's talking about the physical
02:02relationship in marriage that they can't say anything the next verse kind of explains it
02:08defraud ye not one the other except to be with consent for a time that you may give yourself to
02:16fasting and prayer and come together again that satan tempt you not for your incontinency so what the bible
02:26is saying is is that you should not defraud one another of that physical relationship you know
02:33you you hear people say you know mainly women that they take away that physical thing because they
02:40have a headache or whatever the bible is telling us not to do that and he's saying not to do that for a
02:46time because until they come together that satan tempt you for your incontinency what does that mean
02:55for you not doing that he could tempt people into doing committing adultery which is worse than
03:02fornication in god's eyes so to defraud what does that mean if you defraud the government means that
03:09you take something away from somebody that that you should not that that they're supposed to have
03:17so basically what the bible is teaching here is that there's no such thing and you may disagree with me
03:25of marital rape that's what it's saying it's saying that you know uh that the idea that a husband could
03:36rape his wife you know i'm not talking about anything crazy i'm just talking about uh the woman not giving him
03:43the physical uh that a husband and wife would and that he takes that now i'm not talking about tying
03:53people up or doing nothing crazy like that but that you you have people sometimes they'll call in or
03:58they'll make a complaint saying that their husband raped them according to the bible that's just not true
04:04and you can say whatever you want but this we're going what the bible not with what the world says
04:10so the bible is clear you know i think about the consent when you say i do and you marry somebody
04:17you have implied consent it's no different than when you go get your driver's license you sign some
04:24when you get that driver's license you're doing an implied consent to take your breath uh your blood
04:30or your bodily fluids uh which would be urine uh to test if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs
04:38that's what implied consent is that's what you know when i was in law enforcement you'd stop somebody
04:43for dui you'd read them the implied consent law and basically tells them that that if you refuse this
04:49test you will lose your license up to a year i don't know if that's changed that's been years ago
04:55the same thing when you say i do to somebody you have the consent consenting to them about that
05:02physical relationship uh but he says i speak this by permission and not a commandment why because paul
05:12was not married he's not married so he doesn't understand he's saying and not of a commandment
05:19he's not commanding them he said he's not under that commandment because he's not married
05:24for i would that all men were even as myself but every man hath his proper gift of god
05:31one after this manner and after another so paul's unmarried and he's saying you know it'd be great if
05:37everybody was like me and unmarried why is that well throughout the book of acts how many times you see
05:44paul being put in prison if he's married he's got kids that's going to be a strain on him for him to
05:51have that boldness to say hey i'm going to do whatever i got to do you know if i'm being abased
05:56or it doesn't matter um or if i'm being lifted up if you've got a wife and kids in the back of your
06:03mind you're going to think well man what happens to me you know what's going to happen to my kids
06:08what's going to happen to my wife because back then they didn't have welfare system husband something
06:13happened to the husband he died then more than likely the the wife didn't go out and get a job
06:19they were they had a lot of problems um
06:24now the church was supposed to take care of them but we're talking about before that
06:29so paul's saying it would be good if if the people he hung out with brand uh barnabas and all these other
06:38guys you know i don't know if they were married or not uh that it it would be good if they were like him
06:45because you know he doesn't it's not something he thinks about and there's people like that there's
06:53people out there that they don't think about physical relationship with another person they
06:57don't then they don't focus on that but the majority of the people they do think about that so
07:04if they do he's saying you should get married i say therefore that unmarried and widows it is good
07:12for them if they abide even as i said look the people who are unmarried and widows he said it's
07:18good for you to be like me just not married and just doing god's will doing the lord's work
07:24and doing that but if they cannot contain let them marry for it is better to marry than to burn
07:33now the problem with people sometimes when they see burn or fire or something like that they think
07:40of hell well we know that once you're saved that's not going to be an option for you to go to hell and
07:47burn what it's talking about is is if you've ever heard of somebody burning in their lust for something
07:52their desire burning in their lust that that they lust for something or somebody so much that they
07:59just can't uh they can't think straight he's saying it's better for them to marry than if they're
08:04going to burn their lust for that physical relationship that's what he's saying not burning in hell
08:09so just to reiterate paul is unmarried he's not a pastor but he's an apostle and a missionary it's
08:23what we would call a church plant so in these churches he's finding a person that's suitable
08:29for the pastor to pastor which is qualified which would be somebody who's married and has children
08:35uh we see that in timothy and and uh and titus but that's what he's doing he's not married so he's
08:43not a pastor he's not pastoring a church but it is he's what we would call a missionary um
08:50if you will keep your finger there and go to first corinthians 10 a couple pages over
08:55more of a brethren i would uh verse 1 i'm sorry first corinthians 10 1 more of a brethren i would
09:15not that you should be ignorant that how our fathers were under the cloud and all passed through
09:20the sea all were baptized into moses in the cloud and in the sea and all eat the same spiritual meat
09:26and did all drink the same spiritual drink for they drank of that spiritual rock as capital r because
09:33talking about jesus that followed them and that rock was christ but with many of them god was not
09:38well pleased for they were overthrown in the wilderness now these things were our examples to the intent
09:44that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted neither be idolaters as were some of them
09:52as it is written the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play neither let us commit
09:57fornication as some of them committed and fail in one day three and twenty thousand so in one day it was
10:06twenty three thousand um neither let us tempt christ as some of them also tempted and were destroyed out of
10:14serpents neither murmured ye as some of them also murmured and were destroyed of the destroyer now all
10:22these things happened unto them for examples as they were written for our admonition so when you hear
10:30people talk about the old testament or the bible is just a bunch of old stories this verse first
10:37corinthians 10 11 what rings true to me that they were written thousands and thousands of years for us
10:45not for the people that was there at that time not for the corinthians it wasn't written for the
10:51corinthians it was written for us not for the old testament people in old testament it was written for us
10:58at that time um so he's telling them he's giving us a warning that if you if you feel like you're
11:10going to burn in your lust it'd be he's saying look it'd be great if people just did not get married
11:15he said there's nothing and we're going to see that in a minute there's nothing wrong with it
11:19people not being married and all these things but if you're going to burn in your lust and have that
11:26physical desire to have that physical relationship which there's nothing wrong with it that's what
11:30god made us for he's saying it'd be better for you to get married uh verse 10 and to the unmarried
11:39to the married i command yet not i but the lord he can't command you because he doesn't know
11:44and you know um he's saying but the lord commands let not the wife depart from her husband
11:51and if she depart let her remain unmarried or be reconciled her husband and let not that the
11:58husband put away his wife so he's saying this is what the lord's saying that you should never
12:06put away your husband and wife there's consequences for that but the other thing is let's say that two
12:14people they uh are getting in a divorce or maybe they're separated for them to reconcile is a good
12:22thing now uh i'm going to show that to you uh if you'll keep your finger there go to deuteronomy 24
12:30because there's some churches there's some pastors that will tell you oh no you need to go back to
12:36your original if you've been divorced and remarried and then get divorced again you need to go back to
12:43your original spouse no no no i don't know why but that's that's a big no-no in god's world
12:54uh look at deuteronomy 24 verse 1 when a man has taken a wife and married her and it come to pass that
13:02she find no favor in his eyes because he has found some uncleanness in her then let then let him write
13:09her a bill of divorce and give it to in her hand and send it out of her house now i just want to let
13:15you know just like jesus said he said the reason moses had a divorce in the law is because of their
13:25wickedness now i'm not saying wicked people but god never intended a man and a woman to get married
13:33and divorce it was never like that he but he's saying the reason that it's in the law is because
13:39people are not perfect people mess up and it's in there but it's in there for a reason and there's
13:47guidelines and when she is departed out of his house so this man does not want to be married to
13:54her anymore he writes her a bill of divorcement and sends her out of the house she may go and be
14:00another man's wife so she can find somebody else and if the latter husband hate her so if the second
14:07husband hates her and writes her a bill of divorcement and gives it in her hand and send it throughout to
14:12her house or if the latter husband die which took her to be his wife so if she marries husband number
14:19two and she divorces husband number two or if husband number two dies look at what she's saying
14:25the bible is saying her former husband this is husband number one which sent her away may not
14:31take her again to be his wife after she is defiled for that is an abomination before the lord and thou
14:39shalt not cause the land to sin which the lord thy god giveth thee for an inheritance so it's clear
14:46he's saying if you get married to husband number one you divorce husband number one and then he
14:55and then you marry husband number two and he either dies or you divorce him you do not go to husband
15:02number one because it's an abomination i don't know why that's just what god says but you'll have i've
15:10heard pastors say no it's okay to go back to the husband number one no no no that's taking the bible
15:16and twisting it excuse me go back to first corinthians 7 i don't know why but that's that's just the way
15:22god sees it you just have to ask him when you get to heaven um but to the rest i speak not the lord so
15:32first he's saying this is what the lord says and we just saw that in deuteronomy 24 he's right in line
15:37with deuteronomy 24 but now he's saying i'm speaking but not from the lord if any brother
15:44hath a wife that believeth not and she be pleased to dwell with him let him not put her away now he's
15:51saying there's nothing in the bible that really says this but he's suggesting this and look he's right
15:58he's saying look if you have if you're married to somebody and they're not a believer don't put them
16:06out of the house don't divorce him and a woman which hath a husband that believeth not and if he
16:11be pleased and if he be pleased to dwell with her let her not leave him so if there's a a man that's
16:19unsaved and a wife is saved he's saying don't just divorce him because he's unsaved he's saying if
16:26they get along together let them stay why look at verse 14 for the unbelieving husband is sanctified
16:33by the wife and about unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband else were your children unclean but
16:42now they're old so he's saying look what about your children you know we all understand that there's
16:49built-in uh punishment in divorce where husband goes this way wife goes this way kids go this way
16:58they get split up and what it's saying is is for your children's sake you know people say i'm not
17:04going to stay married for my children's sake but the bible tells you should you know um if nothing else
17:11if you don't want to just obey god's word but your children why is that because i know a people
17:19that start to blame god especially when uh the parents or one of the parents may go to church
17:26or whatever they want to blame god for something that happened that god really didn't have any
17:32control over the divorce or whatever and blame god and then they want the children may have built
17:39bitterness later towards the parents or uh god and what he's saying is it'd be better even if your
17:47husband's unsaved and you are what about your children because doesn't the husband may get
17:55custody of the children he's trying to make a point that it should be very hard there should be very
18:03small situations where you divorce your spouse but if the unbelieving depart let him depart he's saying
18:09look if if you're going to church and you're taking your family to church and the unbelieving whether
18:15the husband or wife and she says i don't want no part of this and she wants to leave he's saying you
18:19know don't make her don't make her stay let her depart a brother or sister is not under the bondage in
18:27such cases but god has called us to peace you know don't be a jerk about it we're called to peace if
18:35they want to leave let them leave don't be you know because if you remember the chapter before that
18:41in chapter six what does it say don't take anybody to court guess what you have to do in a divorce
18:46gotta take them to court don't you that's just the way it is in this day and time
18:51so he's saying it's just better for you to be peaceful than for you to go through all that but
18:57uh i'm sorry verse 16 for what knoweth thou wife whether thou shalt save thy husband
19:03or how knowest thou man whether thou shalt save thy wife we don't know what's going to happen folks
19:10by you being with your spouse that's unsaved guess what they may get saved they may sit down one day
19:19with you and say look i noticed you're doing this i noticed you're doing that you know they may get
19:23real sick and fixing to die or somebody may fix in the die and they start thinking about their own
19:28life what would happen if they died and they may come to that person and say hey you know i want
19:34to know how to go to heaven so what he's saying is don't just put that person out because they're
19:41unsaved because you don't know what might happen um but as god has distributed to every man as the lord
19:52hath called every one so let him walk and so ordain i in all churches is any man called uh any man
20:02called being circumcised let him not become uncircumcised is any called in circumcision let him not be
20:11circumcision circumcised circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing but the keeping of the
20:18commandments of god so now he's talking about um well keep your finger there go to galatians 5 and
20:25we'll see a better explanation galatians is all about destroying circumcision and all that other
20:33stuff which today you wouldn't say circumcision you'd probably say something like baptism and
20:40something else to salvation look at galatians 5 5 for we through the spirit wait for the hope of
20:50righteousness by faith for in jesus christ neither circumcision availeth anything nor uncircumcision but
20:59faith which worth it worketh by love he's saying whether you're circumcised or not that has nothing to do
21:05with salvation is faith in jesus christ that's what it is i give out the first corinthians so in the
21:11same instance he's saying you know keeping the commandments of god is more important than being
21:18circumcised or uncircumcised or being a part of this group a part of that he said the commandments of god
21:24which being married is a commandment of god until death do you part is more important uh verse 20 let
21:31every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called although called being a servant care not for
21:40it means care means don't worry about it for thou mayest be made free use it rather for he that is
21:50called in the lord being a servant is the lord freeman likewise also he that is called being free is
21:57christ's servant so what he's saying is whether you're free or you're a servant or whatever just
22:03do it to god's glory because it doesn't matter what you're doing because you're still christ once you
22:10believe um now concerning virgins i have no commandment of lord yet i give my judgment as one
22:19that hath obtained mercy of the lord to be faithful he's saying look i don't have any um experience in
22:26this because what he's talking about is is he's not married he doesn't have any virgins he's not
22:32a father i suppose therefore that it is good for the present distress i say that it is good for a man
22:40so to be he's talking about is good for a man or a woman to be virgin before they get married that's
22:47what god commands us to do are thou bound unto a wife seek not to be loosed are thou loosed from a wife
22:56seek not a wife now i just want to explain what this means bound just means you're married and i
23:04know that sounds crazy but if you're bound means that you're married if you're loosed means you're
23:11single okay because what people would do they'll twist this verse right here when it says art thou
23:19loosed from a wife they think that means about being divorced but that's not what it means being
23:25bound means that you're married he said look if you're married don't try to figure out how to get
23:32loosed means that divorce he's saying if you're loosed he's saying you don't have to seek a wife if you
23:39don't want he said if this is not it's something important to you then don't do it because there's a
23:46lot of people they leave and they're looking for that husband or that wife or whatever
23:51and sometimes god they try to push it too soon and if they would just serve god god would probably
23:58put that person in their in their path when he's ready when they're ready but and if thou
24:04married thou has not sinned so he's saying look whether you marry or you don't marry you've not
24:10sinned so people he's trying to say don't judge people by saying hey you're not married now again
24:18if they're pastor they got to be married they got to be married and they have to have children which
24:23is plural that's what the qualifications in um titus and timothy is that they have to be married to one
24:32woman not one woman at a time but one woman means they can't be divorced and they have to
24:40have children plural that has not sinned and if and if a virgin mary she had not sinned okay
24:51nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh but i spare you but this i say brethren the time
24:58is short it remains that both they that have wives be as though that have none and they that weep as
25:05though they weep weep not and they that rejoice as though they rejoice not and they that buy as they
25:11thought though they possess not and they that use this world as not abusing it for the fashion of this
25:19world passes away he's saying look don't worry again he's saying not to care about the things of
25:25this world because it will pass away it's going to burn uh for a long time and the things of this world
25:32you shouldn't care for but i would have you without care for carefulness carefulness he that is unmarried
25:40careth for the things that belong to the lord how he may please the lord he's saying look just like
25:47he's giving example of himself when you're unmarried you're not worried about the things of the world
25:54you're worried about the things of the lord and what he's saying is
25:57is because he's unmarried he can do the things he can be shipwrecked he can be in the in the prison
26:04and he doesn't have to worry about those things he doesn't have to worry about supplying for his wife
26:09and his children uh but he that is married cared for the things that are of the world that he may
26:16please his wife so he's saying look if he was married he would have to do things to please his wife like
26:22provide her needs to make sure she's taken care of he's saying but you know when you're unmarried
26:29you don't have to do that there's difference also between a wife and a virgin okay the unmarried woman
26:38care for the things of the lord that she may be holy both in body and in spirit but she that is
26:45married care for the things of the world how she may please her husband so he's saying look you know
26:52when you're a virgin or unmarried woman that's what he's calling a virgin that uh he's saying look
26:59you're going to not worry about the things of the world she doesn't have a husband that she needs to
27:03cook for children that she needs to take care of we're saying when you are married you have to care
27:08for the things of the world you have to make sure uh that the kids and the husband have food and are
27:14taking care of the house is being kept and the children are being taught he's saying but when you're
27:19unmarried you don't have to worry about that and this i speak for your own prophet not that i may
27:26cast a snare upon but that for which is comely and that he may attend upon the lord without distraction
27:33he's saying look i'm not trying to put a snare on you i'm not trying to trap you in anything he's
27:38saying look if if being unmarried is what you want to focus on then go ahead it's not a big deal he said
27:45but if you do want to be married it's not a trap for you to do that then there's nothing wrong with
27:50that either he said it shouldn't be a distraction either way but if any man think that he's behaving
27:57himself uncomely toward his virgin if she passed the flower of her age and needs her require let him do
28:06what he will he sinneth not so people get this twisted up sometimes and they want to change the
28:14word virgin to virginity well first of all if you read it carefully it says if any man thinketh he
28:23behaved himself uncomely towards his virgin well how do you have a virgin we're not talking about some
28:30goofball that thinks they get 75 virgins or whatever that's what the muslims think if they
28:36die in some kind of holy war what we're talking about the only way for you to have a virgin is for
28:41you to be a father and have a daughter that's what he's saying he's saying it is and if she passed the
28:48flower of her age he's saying um and need so required means that she's not being she does not it's not
28:57an arranged marriage he's saying if she doesn't marry it's not a big deal he's saying but if she
29:04has passed the flower of her age and he does that she does want to get married then let them get married
29:10let them get married which means your virgin daughter and the guy nevertheless he that standest steadfastly in
29:19his heart having no necessity but hath power over his own will and hath so decreed in his heart that he
29:26will keep his virgin how do you keep your virgin well you then you just don't let her get married
29:33doeth well he's saying look if she does not want to get married and then you're doing fine there's
29:39nothing wrong he's trying to say there's no commandment that you got to get married there's
29:42no commandment that your daughter's got to get married there's no commandment that your son's got
29:46to get married but if they want to and they love each other and they want to serve the lord then that's fine
29:53he's saying but if they don't want to that's okay too so then he that giveth her in marriage
30:00doeth well but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better here's here's a key verse the wife is
30:08bound by the law as long as her husband liveth that's where it comes from death doeth part
30:15but if her husband be dead she's at liberty to be married to whom she will only in the lord but she
30:23is happier if so if she so abide after my judgment and i think also that i have the spirit of god he's
30:31saying look the law says and it's not just the law of god it's also the law of the state of georgia
30:38that's what they say too and most states do that once the husband dies then she's at liberty means
30:45she's got the freedom to go marry somebody else that's where the death doeth part comes from
30:50so let me just wrap this whole chapter of it it's a lot of words you know even peter admitted that paul
30:56because he's such an intelligent guy his books are very difficult and first corinthians second
31:02corinthians are some of the most difficult the most twisted uh verses in the bible so just to recap
31:09first corinthians seven basically um a wife does not have the right to take away that physical
31:19relationship with the husband it usually is not the other way around it's usually the wife
31:25number two uh if they do they need to do it by consenting both of them need to
31:31decide that it's okay for them to do that and then come back together or satan contempt usually
31:38the man for being a part uh the next thing is it's okay to be unmarried if you want to serve the lord
31:48and you want to concentrate on that and nothing but that being unmarried is the way to do it because
31:54you don't have to worry about a spouse and children and take care of them the next thing is
32:01is that if you marry somebody who's unbelieving now god wants us to not be unequally yoked the first
32:09thing a young woman or young man should do is make sure that person they are going to marry
32:14is saved and loves the lord and want to serve the lord if not then they i don't care how much
32:20attraction there is they should go find somebody else but let's say you know sometimes our feelings get
32:27involved more than what we think and we don't get around to that if that's the case and that you do
32:35marry that person realize they're unsaved or whatever he's saying don't divorce them for the sake of the
32:42the children to be saved and also that unbelieving spouse is there in the household they may get
32:50saved the next thing is that he brings out is the only way that you're just like he's preaching you
32:57you know jesus's words the only way you're supposed to get divorced is what you know if you get divorced
33:05the best way to be in right with god is never get married again now a lot of people aren't going to
33:11do that but if you want to be right with god and you get a divorce then you're not supposed to get
33:17married again until that person dies and you know you shouldn't kill them because that's going to be
33:23even worse but when that when that spouse dies then you're able to do that that's what the bible says
33:28till death do us part now what's god's plan number one for you to find somebody that loves the lord
33:36that's saved you stay with them you raise a family and you live with them until one of y'all dies
33:42and if one of y'all the the person that's living wants to get remarried they can
33:46but also in the same aspect he's saying if you have a daughter and she's past the flower of her age
33:54you know we're not talking about muhammad who married a nine-year-old
34:00the pedophile that he is and they keep backing it up and backing it up when she passes the flower of
34:06her age and she wants to get married then it's okay let them marry let her marry some man
34:14but if she doesn't want to and she wants to stay at home or whatever saying there's nothing wrong
34:19with that either what he's trying to get at is there's no commandment saying thou shall get married
34:25but if it's a problem for you and everybody's different and you say well i don't know if i don't
34:32get married i'm probably gonna commit fornication get married that's what he's saying it would be
34:36better for you to get married and not have to worry about being tempted and burning in your lust day by
34:43day for that physical relationship and commit fornication or if you're married god forbid commit
34:50adultery let's bow our heads and have a word of prayer
