00:00so starting a new book first Corinthians one I always like it when we start a new
00:09book it just seems to be like a new beginning the first Corinthians chapter
00:17one I will tell you that first Corinthians and second Corinthians are
00:20probably the hardest to me y'all may find it differently to understand even
00:27Peter said that the writings of Paul are difficult to understand and I'd say first
00:35Corinthians second Corinthians are the hardest because these are probably the
00:39most twisted this is where people get about speaking in tongues this is a lot
00:45of misconceptions and a lot of false doctrine comes from first and second
00:50Corinthians but it is a difficult and I think it's because Paul is such an
00:56educated man that we see part of his his intelligence comes through that again
01:03the whole Bible is spoken and inspired by God look at verse 1 Paul called to be an
01:11apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God and Sosthenes our brother so I'm
01:16just gonna stop right there and just tell you that anytime it says called or will
01:21that has nothing to do with salvation but God knew before the beginning of time
01:27before anything was created that a man that was named Saul who changed his name to
01:32Paul would be a person that would persecute Christians that would do a lot of bad
01:40to Christians but on the same hand turn around and do a lot of good because it's
01:4513 books in the Bible that was pinned down by Paul or somebody from him so again it
01:55has nothing to be nothing to do with salvation has to do any time of being
02:00called just like in Jeremiah he knew before God knew before Jeremiah was born that he
02:05was gonna be able to do the job that he was able to do Abraham same thing keep your
02:12finger there go to 2nd Peter 3 2nd Peter 3 2nd Peter chapter 3
02:302nd Peter 3 verse 8 but beloved be not ignorant of this one thing that one day is
02:37with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years is one day and then the
02:44next verse so God has no time clock it is hard for us to understand but one day is
02:51like a thousand years so time things like it's a lot of times past but it's not to
02:57Lord but the Lord is not slack concerning his promise as some men count slackness but as
03:03long suffering to us were not willing that any should perish but that all should come to
03:10repentance so I wrote many many years ago above this verse not Calvinism because it's one of the
03:18verses that just destroys Calvinism that God wants everybody to be saved the Lord wants everybody to be
03:25saved and sometimes we're thinking man why does the Lord allow these people to do this these things
03:31and it's because he not because he's slack because it's long suffering you think back to your life
03:38maybe you're saved as a young kid or a young teenager maybe you weren't sometimes we think we try to
03:47put ourselves on other people but we shouldn't do that God knows what's going to happen he knows
03:53beginning from then he knows he's going to be saved he's not going to be saved but again he wants
03:58everybody to come to repentance that's not repentance of sin that just means to change your mind
04:04about how you think salvation is the word repent just means to change your mind
04:09nobody's trusting in their own sin to get them saved or to go to heaven but some people are trusting
04:16their own works so what the repentance is you're changing your mind that whatever you think is
04:23getting you to heaven with your works or whatever that that's not it that's what it says when it
04:29says come repentance that's what it means changing your mind not repenting of your sins repenting of
04:34your sins is something you should do after you're saved because if you're trying to repent of your sins
04:40to be saved you go to heaven you're working your way to heaven and that won't work go back to first
04:45corinthians 1 verse 2 unto the church of god which is at corinth to them that are sanctified in christ jesus
04:57called to be saints with all that in with all that in every place call upon the name of jesus christ
05:05our lord both theirs and ours so this verse gives us an idea of salvation in romans 10 we see this
05:13where people are sanctified by jesus and what by the being sanctified is what they have to call on the
05:22name of the lord it's not just good enough to believe on jesus or believe in jesus you have to
05:29call on the name of the lord just like i've explained sunday that if you think that jesus can save you you
05:35have to ask him to do that just like he's a doctor that uh he's that doctor and you have to say
05:41dr jesus i can't go to heaven on my own i need you to save me but you have to ask him um that's
05:49important it's not what you say it's that you say it and if you've never called on the name of the lord
05:56and you told him that you don't have to do it audibly you could do it in your own head you're not
06:00saved but to be sanctified means that you're clean of your sins through jesus christ because he died on
06:08the cross and then when that happens you are called a saint has nothing to do with these uh catholic
06:16people that are inside the catholic church they call them the saints or um you know the orthodox
06:23church you go into orthodox church and they got all these statues of all these people um or whatever
06:30it is it has nothing to do with that a saint is anybody who's saved that and that is by believing
06:36on the lord jesus christ verse three grace be unto you and peace from god our father and from the lord
06:43jesus christ i thank my god always on your behalf for the grace of god which is given you by jesus christ
06:52so this is a theme you'll constantly see that where paul is writing he's constantly saying grace and peace
07:01grace and peace why is that well keep your finger then go to colossians 1
07:05colossians chapter 1
07:10colossians chapter 1
07:19verse 19 for please the father that in him should all fullness dwell and having made peace through
07:31the blood of his cross by him to reconcile all things unto himself by him i say whether they be
07:39things in earth or things in heaven so the bible makes it clear that jesus christ made peace between
07:47him and god the father by dying on the cross but not only that we have peace with god through
07:55being saved go to john 3 just got through with john 3 this is probably one of the
08:02my favorite verses in john that it describes salvation
08:08and guess what it's got the word believe in it twice john 3 36
08:15he that believeth on the son hath means past tense has have not gonna have everlasting life and he that
08:26believeth not the son shall not see life but the wrath of god abideth on him so just make sure you
08:34understand that anybody out there that has reached the age of accountability that has not believed on
08:40the lord jesus christ they have the wrath of god abideth on them jews which is judaism
08:46muslims hindus catholics if they're trusting in the works which 99.9 percent of them are
08:53greek orthodox calvinists folks all these people have god's wrath abiding on them why because they've not
09:02believed they've not believed on the son it clearly says that uh go back to um first corinthians 1
09:11so we have peace that's why paul keeps saying grace what is grace grace is something you get that you
09:18don't deserve nobody deserves heaven if anybody thinks they deserve heaven they don't they're wrong
09:25they're they're prideful we have to uh humble ourselves so grace is something we get that we
09:32don't deserve so we don't deserve heaven we can get heaven by believing on christ and peace is what we
09:38have between god the father and man through the lord jesus christ and then he's telling them in verse
09:44four that i thank god always on your behalf so i've told you before i'm going to reiterate this the
09:50whole book of first corinthians and second corinthians is about the the church in corinth
09:56allowing a man who has committed fornication with his um his father's wife which would be who his
10:06stepmother and we'll find out in a couple chapters in first corinthians 5 that even even the gentiles
10:13think this is weird but they're allowing them to stay in the church and that's what the whole book is
10:18about about paul telling them to be uh joined together and not be divided we'll see that's where
10:26this is beginning but when i started reading this and and studying it it reminded me of when i was
10:33training deputies in law enforcement uh when i went to class on how to train officers they told you
10:42to give them uh a good a bad and then back to good so what you want to do is if you're telling
10:51them hey man uh you did that wrong you should have searched that prisoner or whatever instead of just
10:57telling them that they'll tell you hey what you did right was you know your uniform looks nice
11:02but you didn't search that guy it could be very dangerous but you have done this good so you try to
11:08tell them something good and then something bad something good and that's what paul's doing here
11:14he's actually puffing them up to tell them say look i thank god for you i thank god all the time when
11:21i'm praying for you for the church at corinth and then he's going to hit them later on we're going to
11:26see that um verse five that in everything you're enriched by him in all utterance and in all knowledge
11:35so he's saying you know i've been praying that god would give you all knowledge and and be able to
11:39utter everything you can even as the testimony of christ was confirmed in you so that you come behind
11:46in no gift waiting for the
