00:00so the title of the sermon today is the wisdom of the world the wisdom of the world so if you
00:08remember you may not remember it's about a year ago i preached a sermon on knowledge wisdom and
00:13understanding and i just want to give you the definitions according to the bible of what it is
00:19knowledge is the facts or information on a subject so the what so you learn how to do something
00:27wisdom is putting forth that knowledge into practice the how so you may learn how to do
00:34something so like let's use a simple example of changing the oil in your car you know that how to
00:41do it you learn how somebody tells you well this is how you do it you take the oil filter off you know
00:46you take you take the plug off you've got to take the plug and drain the oil you got to change the
00:50filter and then put the plug back in put oil back in and the filter well wisdom is putting forth
00:56knowledge into the practice so the knowledge is the what the information that you get the wisdom
01:04is putting forth that knowledge into practice the how so in changing the oil is knowing what to do
01:11but the wisdom is knowing what order so you know that you can't change the filter first because that
01:18ain't gonna make any sense so you have to do what you have to train out the oil first you have to take
01:23the plug out drain the oil and then once all the oil is drained out of that drain pan then you have to
01:30replace it you can't do it in a different order you have to do it in that sort of certain order
01:35that's the under that's the wisdom and understanding is why the knowledge and wisdom are important the
01:41why so why do you need to change oil well if you don't you're gonna burn up your engine the
01:46doors when we get nasty and dirty and sludgy and eventually the pistons and all the parts in it are not
01:51what so just to let you know the knowledge is the why the wisdom is the how and the understanding is
01:58the why we do that so the wisdom of the world wisdom if you go to proverbs 4 the whole book of proverbs
02:07is just full of wisdom why because uh king solomon
02:13is the one who penned down most of proverbs
02:18so look at proverbs chapter 4 verse 5
02:24get wisdom
02:27get understanding forget it not so remember wisdom is what is
02:32nollie is to know how to put something the how
02:36the understanding is what is what we would call intelligence
02:40it's why you need to do it why do i need to change the oil
02:43forget it not neither decline
02:47from the words of my mouth forsake her not and she shall preserve thee
02:53love her and she shall keep thee wisdom is a principal thing
02:57what is principal means the most important thing
02:59therefore get wisdom
03:01and with all getting get understanding
03:04so the bible is telling us that the two important things are wisdom
03:08knowing the how and
03:11then the next thing is the why
03:13the knowledge you can just learn
03:15a lot of people learn how to do things
03:18but they don't know how to put it into practice
03:20and that's what the bible is teaching us here
03:23go to uh proverbs 8
03:24probably one page over
03:25proverbs 8 verse 10
03:28receive my instruction
03:32and not silver
03:33and knowledge rather than choice gold
03:37so the bible is telling us here
03:39that silver and gold is not as important as instruction and knowledge
03:44for wisdom
03:45is better than rubies
03:47and all things that may be desired or not to be compared to it
03:50so the bible is teaching us here
03:52that riches are not important
03:54it never is
03:55when people tell you that that's just foolish
03:57when people tell you that god wants you to be rich
04:00there's nothing in the bible about that folks
04:02nowhere at all
04:04when people tell you that
04:06you know where their heart's at
04:09the bible is literally telling us that knowledge
04:12and understanding and wisdom
04:14is more important
04:16than anything you could possibly have
04:18that you can hold in your hand
04:19go to proverbs 15
04:22again the whole book of proverbs
04:24is just full of wisdom
04:26and knowledge and understanding
04:28proverbs 15 verse 1
04:31a soft answer turneth away wrath
04:35so when somebody's mad
04:37and you talk to them softly
04:40then that usually makes them happy
04:42but grievous words stir up anger
04:44the tongue of the wise
04:46uses knowledge of right
04:48but the mouth of fools
04:50pourth out foolishness
04:52so when you speak
04:55and you use wisdom
04:56then you know
04:59you can help people out
05:00but when you speak foolishly
05:02and speaking foolishly
05:03has to do with not thinking about
05:05what you say before you say it
05:07you can make people
05:08make yourself sound foolish
05:10first of all
05:11but you can make people mad
05:13that's what the bible says
05:14go to ecclesiastes
05:15the next book in the bible
05:17ecclesiastes chapter 10
05:19getting us by King Solomon
05:23which we know the bible says
05:28he was the most wise man on the earth
05:32and nobody ever be more wiser than him
05:34human being that is
05:36ecclesiastes 10
05:37because Jesus was on earth
05:40but he was more wise
05:41ecclesiastes 10 12
05:43the words of a wise man's mouth
05:46are gracious
05:47but the lips of a fool
05:49will swallow up himself
05:51so have you ever heard somebody
05:53just say something stupid
05:55without thinking
05:56you've probably done it before
05:58I've done it before
05:59and after you said it
06:00you think
06:01why did I say that
06:02that just didn't make any sense
06:03that's what the bible is saying
06:05is that
06:05sometimes we should sit there
06:07and think before we speak
06:09the older we get
06:10we have less of a filter
06:12we shouldn't do that
06:13we should think
06:14we should think how
06:15I preached a sermon
06:17a while
06:18you know
06:19several years ago
06:20that we should think
06:21before we speak
06:22because what we say
06:24may be something detrimental
06:27to somebody
06:28and it may not do
06:29any benefit
06:29you know
06:30do you have the authority
06:32to do that
06:32is it just somebody you know
06:34or do you have authority
06:35over that person
06:36if you're a parent
06:37obviously you have the authority
06:38but
06:39if you don't have the authority
06:41to tell somebody something
06:42is it going to help them
06:44is it going to help the situation
06:45by you telling somebody
06:46hey you're doing this wrong
06:48if you don't have the authority
06:49you know
06:50it's probably not going to do anything
06:53to help anything
06:53they're just going to be mad at you
06:54basically
06:55so we need to realize
06:57some of the things we say
06:58and that's what the bible is teaching us here
07:00is that we should think
07:02before we speak
07:03the beginning of the words
07:04of his mouth
07:04is foolishness
07:05and at the end of his talk
07:06is mischievous madness
07:08so it's talking about a fool
07:09when he speaks
07:10it's foolishness
07:11but then by the end
07:12it's mischievous madness
07:14means that
07:15it hurts somebody
07:17you know
07:18and again
07:19there's nothing wrong
07:20with telling somebody
07:21you know
07:22God tells us things to do
07:24and we don't like to hear those things
07:26when we're doing wrong
07:27but if you don't have the authority
07:28to do so
07:29then
07:29you're probably wasting your time
07:32so I got several points
07:34go to 1 Corinthians 3
07:37we're starting a new book
07:391 Corinthians
07:39Wednesday will be starting
07:441 Corinthians 1
07:46but look at 1 Corinthians 3
07:49verse 16
07:51know you not
07:55that ye are the temple of God
07:57so your body is the temple of God
08:00and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you
08:03so the body that God gave you
08:06it is the temple of God
08:08Jesus was talking before he was crucified
08:10and if you remember he said
08:12three days
08:13this temple is going to be destroyed
08:15and risen up again
08:16he was talking about his body
08:18and like
08:19just like Christ
08:20we're supposed to be an example
08:21of our body
08:22being a temple
08:23if any man defile the temple of God
08:26him shall God destroy
08:28for the temple of God is holy
08:30which temple ye are
08:31and he's trying to give us an example
08:34of you know
08:36back in the
08:36the Old Testament
08:37when they did have the temple
08:39nobody defiled it
08:41the people who defiled it
08:42they
08:42you know
08:43God punished him greatly
08:45and he's trying to give the example
08:47for a body
08:48let no man deceive himself
08:51if any man among you
08:52seemeth to be wise
08:54in this world
08:55let him become a fool
08:57that he may be wise
08:58so the Bible is teaching us here
09:00that people who think
09:01they're wise in this world
09:02the wisdom of this world
09:03and they say
09:04I know what we need to do
09:06the world says this
09:07the world says that
09:08that you've got to make yourself
09:10that you're going to make yourself a fool
09:12to be wise
09:13what does that mean?
09:15to make people think that you're wise
09:17you're going to say foolish stuff
09:18and it's all against God in the Bible
09:22for the wisdom of this world
09:23is foolishness with God
09:25you can find the so called wisest man
09:27with the highest IQ in this world
09:29and you ask them about stuff
09:31and the first thing they're going to tell you
09:32is God's not real
09:33they're going to tell you
09:35because nobody intelligent
09:37I'm telling you
09:38there's very few people
09:39intelligent
09:40that will tell you
09:41oh you believe in a God
09:43you know
09:43we just live our life
09:45whatever
09:45when we die
09:46nothing happens
09:47we go in the grave
09:48that's what they'll tell you
09:49because they'll tell you
09:51the world will tell you
09:52to believe in something
09:53that you can't touch
09:54and feel and see
09:55scientifically is stupid
09:57but the Bible's telling us here
10:00that the wisdom of the world
10:02is foolishness with God
10:04God sees that man
10:05as so foolish and stupid
10:07that it's not even funny
10:09for it is written
10:10he taketh the wise
10:11in their own craftiness
10:12the Bible talks about
10:13taking the smartest people
10:16and let them think about
10:18their craftiness
10:18and using it against them
10:20because they're not humble
10:22that's why
10:23and again the Lord
10:25knoweth the thoughts
10:26of the wise
10:27and that they are vain
10:28so all the thoughts
10:30that they have
10:30they're useless
10:31because they have
10:32nothing to do with God
10:34therefore let no man
10:36glory in men
10:37for all things are yours
10:38so we should never
10:39glory in any man
10:41now there does something
10:42wrong with
10:43with telling somebody
10:44hey you did a good job
10:45you did this
10:46you did that
10:47but the Bible's telling us here
10:48you should never put
10:49anybody on a pedestal
10:51because eventually
10:52guess what
10:52they're going to fail
10:54all men are going to fail
10:56we should put Christ
10:57on a pedestal
10:58you want somebody
10:58as an example
10:59read the Bible
11:01read what Christ did
11:02from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
11:03and see what he did
11:05and you can put him
11:07on a pedestal
11:07because every single man
11:09you put me on a pedestal
11:10you know
11:11I will fail you
11:12because I am a human being
11:14you put your parents
11:15on a pedestal
11:16you know
11:16we should glory our parents
11:18but we should not
11:18put on a pedestal
11:19there's some things
11:20that your parents
11:21would tell you
11:21hey don't do this
11:22like me
11:23you know
11:23don't do this
11:25because I messed up
11:26we should not do
11:27every single thing
11:28that our parents did
11:29but we should look
11:30at what they did good
11:31and we should follow them
11:32we should obey them
11:33as a child
11:35but we should not
11:36glory in any man
11:38for all things
11:39are ours
11:40whether Paul or
11:41Apollos
11:41or Cephas
11:43or the world
11:44or life or death
11:46or things present
11:46and things that come
11:47all are yours
11:50and ye are Christ
11:51and Christ is God
11:52so again
11:53God the Father
11:55told Jesus Christ
11:57that he was going to have
11:58to die on the cross
11:59and once you believe
12:00on Christ
12:01you are his
12:02that's what the Bible
12:03is teaching us here
12:04so what is the wisdom
12:05the wisdom of the world
12:08says
12:08if you will turn to
12:09Leviticus 19
12:10that it's not a big deal
12:12for you to have a tattoo
12:13in fact
12:13years ago
12:16I was looking up
12:16on the internet
12:17I was looking up
12:18to see what people
12:19were saying
12:20because I met a guy
12:22and he had his
12:23favorite Bible verse
12:24and he had Jesus
12:25and a cross
12:26and all this stuff
12:27and he told me
12:28he said
12:29well God wants me
12:30to have these things
12:31on me
12:31to witness to people
12:33and I said
12:34well
12:34that's great
12:36it's better than
12:37you putting
12:37some kind of snake
12:39or scorpion
12:42or demon
12:43or pentagram
12:44or whatever
12:45but that's not
12:46what the Bible teaches
12:47the wisdom of the world
12:48says hey it's okay
12:49you know
12:49for you to put
12:50Jesus' name on there
12:51or cross
12:52or whatever
12:53but what does the Bible say
12:54look at Leviticus 19
12:55remember
12:57it can't be both ways
12:59you can't say
13:00don't do this
13:01but it's okay
13:02to do this
13:03it just does not
13:04work with God
13:05folks
13:05and again
13:06if you got a tattoo
13:07let me just go ahead
13:08and tell you
13:09you got 10 tattoos
13:10don't get 11
13:11you know
13:11stop there
13:12maybe you didn't know
13:13I learned as a young child
13:15that you're not supposed
13:16this is your body
13:17and people tell you
13:19it's not a big deal
13:20look at Leviticus 19
13:21you tell me
13:2219 verse 28
13:25you shall not make
13:28any cuttings
13:29in your flesh
13:30for the dead
13:30now if you get a tattoo
13:31what do you have to do
13:32you have to cut your flesh
13:33they use ink
13:35and they use a needle
13:36and it cuts your flesh
13:38people who get
13:39tattoos in prison
13:41they take some kind of pen
13:42and they cut your flesh
13:43and eventually
13:44it makes a scar
13:45and that's what leaves it
13:46okay
13:47that's what the bible says
13:48and people try to
13:50justify this
13:51and say
13:51well I'm not putting
13:52a dead person now
13:53I'm putting somebody alive
13:54well I'm putting a cross
13:55I'm putting my favorite bible verse
13:57nor put any marks
13:59no marks
14:01upon you
14:02for I am the lord
14:03again
14:04and I've asked people
14:06go to 21
14:07same chapter
14:08I mean same book
14:09Leviticus 21 5
14:11they shall not make
14:15baldness upon their head
14:16neither shall they
14:17shave off the corner
14:19of their beard
14:19nor make any cuttings
14:21in their flesh
14:22so again
14:23and people will try
14:24to justify this
14:25and say
14:25see
14:26people were cutting
14:27themselves for the dead
14:28that's not what it's
14:29talking about folks
14:30it's talking about people
14:32cutting things
14:34to remember people
14:35in their body
14:36because the next thing
14:37it says in 28
14:38nor print any marks
14:40so there was probably
14:42a time where people
14:43were putting
14:44dead people's names
14:45on them
14:46but then there's a point
14:47in time where they're
14:48just putting whatever
14:49on there
14:49printing a mark
14:50would be a cross
14:51printing a mark
14:52would be a scorpion
14:53or whatever
14:54even a bible verse
14:55folks
14:56let's just not
14:56see how close
14:57we can get
14:58to violating God's word
14:59but my question
15:00to people are
15:01about this
15:03would you take a knife
15:05and carve something
15:06inside of the church building
15:07because it's a temple
15:09right
15:09I mean that's what it says
15:11don't carve anything
15:12in your body
15:13if this is a temple
15:14and you say
15:15well it's okay
15:16is it okay for you
15:17to go out there
15:18and carve a cross
15:19on the outside
15:20or carve your name
15:21or a friend of yours name
15:22or whatever
15:23the answer is no
15:24it is not
15:25that's why God's
15:27giving us an example
15:27of your temple
15:29your body
15:30taking care of it
15:31but the world says
15:32nah it's not a big deal
15:33that's the wisdom
15:34of the world
15:35God's wisdom
15:36is don't do it
15:37and again
15:38you may have
15:38ten tattoos
15:39I'm telling you today
15:40don't get number eleven
15:41for whatever
15:42it costs a lot of money
15:43when you get older
15:44you get this butterfly
15:45and by the time
15:46you get older
15:47it turns into a bat
15:48because your skin
15:50stretches
15:50it's a pretty little
15:51butterfly when you're
15:52eighteen
15:53but then when it
15:54grows out
15:54and your body
15:56grows out
15:56guess what
15:57now it looks like
15:58a bat
15:58or some kind
15:59of pterodactyl
16:00you just shouldn't
16:00do it
16:01number two
16:02the foolishness
16:04of the world
16:04is abortion
16:05go to exodus 21
16:07exodus 21
16:10I was just talking
16:11to a young man
16:11the other day
16:12about him living
16:14with his girlfriend
16:15and what I was
16:17trying to explain
16:18to him is
16:18look
16:19he said
16:19well we're not ready
16:20it's not time
16:22she wants to finish
16:23school
16:23all this other stuff
16:25I know I need
16:26to do it
16:26and I told him
16:27I said
16:27well you know
16:27you're saved
16:28you're going
16:28to be punished
16:29he said
16:30I know that
16:30I know that
16:31and I said
16:32well you know
16:33you got to think
16:34about what's going
16:35to happen
16:36in the future
16:37because you don't
16:38know
16:38but what does
16:39the bible say
16:40exodus 21
16:4222
16:43it says
16:45if men strive
16:46and hurt a woman
16:48with child
16:48so that they're
16:51her fruit
16:51talking about
16:52her child
16:53depart from her
16:54and yet
16:55no mischief
16:56follows
16:57so he shall
16:58be surely
16:59punished
16:59so this is
17:00just
17:00let's say
17:01they're in a
17:01car wreck
17:02and the child
17:04gets hurt
17:05and the child
17:06dies
17:06and there's
17:07no mischief
17:07what happens
17:09they're still
17:10punished
17:10according as
17:11the woman's
17:11husband will
17:12lay upon him
17:12and he shall
17:13pay as the
17:14judge is
17:14determined
17:15so the
17:15husband would
17:16be asked
17:17and say
17:17hey
17:17your baby
17:19died
17:20what do you
17:21think should
17:21happen
17:21and whatever
17:23he thinks
17:23he would
17:25tell the
17:25judges
17:25and if
17:26any
17:27mischief
17:27follow
17:28then thou
17:29shalt give
17:30life for
17:31life
17:31so what
17:31does that
17:32mean
17:32if there
17:33is some
17:33kind of
17:33mischief
17:34where the
17:35baby
17:35you know
17:36maybe there's
17:36a fight
17:36or whatever
17:37and there
17:37was some
17:38kind of
17:38mischief
17:38and the
17:39baby dies
17:40horse playing
17:42or whatever
17:43what does it
17:44say
17:44life for
17:45life
17:45that person
17:47that calls
17:47that should
17:48die
17:48so what
17:49does this
17:49and it
17:49goes on to
17:50say
17:50eye for
17:51eye tooth
17:52for tooth
17:52and hand
17:53for hand
17:53foot
17:54for foot
17:55burning
17:55for burning
17:56wound
17:56for wound
17:56stripe
17:57for stripe
17:57and if
17:58any man
17:58smite
17:59the eye
17:59of his
17:59servant
18:00and the eye
18:00of his
18:00maid
18:01and perish
18:01and that
18:02it perish
18:03then he
18:04shall let
18:04him go
18:05free
18:05for his
18:06eye
18:06sake
18:06if he
18:07smite
18:07out his
18:07man
18:08servant's
18:08tooth
18:08or his
18:09maid
18:10servant's
18:10tooth
18:10he shall
18:11let him
18:11go free
18:11for his
18:12tooth
18:12sake
18:12folks
18:14this is
18:14the word
18:15of God
18:15this is
18:15God's
18:16law
18:16and when
18:17Jesus
18:17Christ
18:17comes
18:18back
18:18after we're
18:18raptured
18:19and we
18:19come back
18:19on the
18:20earth
18:20for a
18:20thousand
18:21years
18:21guess what
18:21these laws
18:23are going to
18:23be in place
18:24people say
18:25that's stupid
18:26here people
18:27say eye
18:27for an eye
18:28tooth
18:28for a tooth
18:29that's dumb
18:29that don't
18:30make any
18:30sense
18:31but folks
18:32this is
18:32what the
18:32Bible
18:32says
18:33so I'm
18:35here to
18:36tell you
18:36the way
18:36God looks
18:37at these
18:37abortion
18:38clinics
18:38a doctor
18:39who commits
18:39an abortion
18:40guess what
18:40that's right
18:42there
18:42that there's
18:43some kind
18:44of mischief
18:44there's some
18:45kind of
18:45mischief
18:46where they're
18:46taking
18:46tongs
18:47and scraping
18:48out body
18:48parts
18:49and all
18:49that stuff
18:50of babies
18:50folks it's
18:51just literally
18:52disgusting
18:53but that's
18:54what it
18:54says
18:54these doctors
18:55these nurses
18:56that are
18:56doing this
18:57they should
18:57die
18:58that's what
18:58it says
18:59but my
19:00point is
19:01is that I
19:01was trying
19:02to tell
19:02the young
19:03man
19:03look you
19:04know
19:04what happens
19:05if she
19:06gets pregnant
19:06oh we're
19:07taking precautions
19:08yeah whatever
19:09okay whatever
19:1099%
19:11effective
19:11that's what
19:12it is
19:12but the
19:13other thing
19:14is what
19:15if she gets
19:15pregnant
19:15and she
19:16says I
19:16don't want
19:17to have
19:17this child
19:18neither
19:18committed
19:19fornication
19:19and murder
19:21we don't
19:24think about
19:24those things
19:25why because
19:26the world
19:26has made
19:27it easy
19:27for us
19:28to sin
19:29that's what
19:29the world's
19:30wisdom is
19:31go to
19:32Deuteronomy
19:3324
19:33the other
19:35thing is
19:35divorce
19:36you know
19:37used to
19:38when people
19:38talked about
19:39divorce
19:39it was just
19:40you know
19:40people were
19:41just disgusted
19:43all these
19:44things
19:44and then
19:45you know
19:45the early
19:4660s and
19:4750s
19:48you just
19:48you couldn't
19:49get a divorce
19:49it was not
19:50that easy
19:51and again
19:52just like the
19:52tattoos
19:53just like
19:53whatever
19:54I'm preaching
19:54God's word
19:55folks
19:55don't get
19:56all upset
19:57if you've
19:57been divorced
19:58three four
19:59times
19:59don't make
19:59it a fifth
20:00time
20:00stay with
20:00the person
20:01you're with
20:01but I'm
20:02just showing
20:02you what
20:02the Bible
20:03says
20:03because that's
20:04what my
20:04job is
20:05don't get
20:05all mad
20:06because
20:06there's young
20:07people here
20:08that they may
20:08be thinking
20:09about marriage
20:09and they need
20:10to know
20:10what God
20:10says
20:11about it
20:12before they
20:13decide to
20:13get married
20:14it's that
20:15important
20:15and that's
20:16what I was
20:17telling that
20:17young man
20:17too
20:17look if
20:18you don't
20:18love her
20:19and you
20:19just
20:19trying to
20:20do what
20:21you think
20:21is right
20:22don't marry
20:23somebody
20:24because when
20:25you divorce
20:25them
20:25God
20:27does not
20:27look favorably
20:28on that
20:29look at
20:29Deuteronomy
20:3124 1
20:32when a man
20:34has taken
20:34a wife
20:34and married
20:35her
20:36and it
20:37come to
20:38pass
20:38that she
20:38find no
20:40favor in
20:40his eyes
20:41because he
20:41has found
20:42some uncleanness
20:43in her
20:43let him
20:44write her
20:45a bill
20:45of divorcement
20:46and give it
20:48in her hand
20:49and send her
20:49out of the
20:50house
20:50and when she
20:51is the part
20:51out of his
20:52house
20:52she may go
20:53and marry
20:53another man's
20:54wife
20:54so the Bible
20:55says
20:55for whatever
20:57reason
20:57a divorcement
20:58they want to
20:59be divorced
20:59from the
21:00marriage
21:00she can go
21:01and marry
21:02another man
21:03that's what
21:04it says
21:04does God
21:05like it
21:05no he does
21:06not
21:06I'll show
21:06you that
21:07in a minute
21:07and if the
21:09latter husband
21:09hate her
21:11and write
21:12her bill
21:12of divorcement
21:13and give it
21:14in her hand
21:15and send it
21:15out of his
21:17house
21:17and the latter
21:18husband die
21:19which he took
21:19to be his
21:20wife
21:20her former
21:21husband
21:22which sent
21:23her away
21:24may not
21:24take her
21:25again to
21:25be his
21:26wife
21:26after she
21:27is defiled
21:28for that
21:28is an
21:28abomination
21:29before the
21:30Lord
21:30and that
21:30shall not
21:31cause the
21:31land to
21:32sin
21:32which the
21:33Lord thy
21:34God
21:34giveth
21:34thee for
21:35an
21:35inheritance
21:35so what
21:36does the
21:36Bible
21:36say
21:36the Bible
21:38says
21:38if somebody
21:39gets divorced
21:39and they
21:40get married
21:41to another
21:42man
21:42and that
21:43man dies
21:44or whatever
21:44then she
21:46is not
21:47it is
21:47absolutely
21:48forbidden
21:49for her
21:50to go back
21:50to that
21:51first husband
21:51I don't know
21:53why
21:54that's just
21:54what the Bible
21:55says
21:56but you have
21:56people sometimes
21:57I've heard
21:59of preachers
21:59before
21:59say hey
22:00it's biblical
