Harvey Weinstein’s downfall deepens with new conviction

Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in his New York retrial.

00:23I didn't think I would be revisiting this, and I hope I don't revisit it after this.

00:31Pre-2017, instances of Weinstein's sexual misconduct were pretty much hushed with private settlements.

00:37It was in 2017 when the New York Times published a piece detailing decades of sexual violence against women by Weinstein,

00:43who brought their silence by paying them off.

00:45This resulted in widespread outrage.

00:47Several women came out with their own stories of assault, catapulting the MeToo movement.

00:51I do not think that Harvey Weinstein understands or comprehends

00:56how much pain and suffering this brings to me and scores of other women.

01:01MeToo was coined back in 2006 by Tarana Burke,

01:04but gained traction after actress Alyssa Milano's MeToo tweet against Harvey Weinstein.

01:09Weinstein has already been convicted once before,

01:11where he was sentenced to 16 years for sexual assault and rape.

01:14After this recent charge, the maximum sentence that he can receive is 25 years in prison.

01:18So it's safe to say that Weinstein could spend the rest of his life in prison.
