00:00At this temple in Leicester, in prayer and song, they are remembering those lost in Air
00:09India Flight 171 and the loved ones they left behind.
00:14The London-bound Boeing 787 crashed seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad, the largest
00:20city in the Indian province of Gujarat.
00:23With one of the UK's largest populations of Gujaratis, Leicester has been hit hard
00:28by this tragedy.
00:29Unfortunately, a lot of people do know them, I know them personally, and I'm sure not every
00:37story has come out.
00:39But the dignity that people are handling it with, at a time like this, what do you turn
00:44to?
00:45And we find that people are turning to the pillar which is faith, and find some sort of solace
00:50in prayer.
00:52Also remembered in Leicester was Gujarat's former chief minister, Vijay Rupani, who lost
00:57his life in the crash.
00:59Very sad news, a very tragic accident, and we are really saddened.
01:05There are a lot of people from the UK, all nationality.
01:10Remarkably, this passenger survived, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, seen here in hospital speaking
01:17to India's Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
01:22He had managed to contact his family back in the East Midlands.
01:25So, we spoke to Vishwash just about half an hour ago.
01:29He was on bed.
01:30You could see the scars, and he was literally bleeding at the moment.
01:33He wasn't...
01:34We tried basically telling him, look, make sure your willpower's there.
01:37The words that came up from Vishwash's mouth was, look, I'm fine, but please find Ajay.
01:42At the family home in Leicester, they were still trying to reach Ajay, who was sat next to Vishwash
01:48on the flight.
01:49I last spoke to him yesterday, yesterday afternoon.
01:53He's like, I'll see you tomorrow.
01:55Those were his last words to me.
01:57I was supposed to go and pick him up at Gatwick Airport today.
02:04242 people were meant to land safely here at Gatwick Airport at half past six yesterday evening.
02:12Instead, flowers were left in memory of those who died more than 4,000 miles away.
02:18A stone's throw from the airport, at this temple in Crawley, they were still waiting to hear from loved ones.
02:24As you can see, there's not many people who have turned up today because they're still trying to understand
02:29whether any of their family members are on board.
02:31Kneesden, in northwest London, is also home to a large Gujarati population, as well as the largest Hindu temple in Britain.
02:40Special prayers were held here yesterday evening to remember those who died.
02:45In good times and bad times, the temple is here to support those that come to visit it.
02:53And this tragic incident, we will be supporting those people who come to the temple
03:02and offering prayers and support in any which way we can.
03:08Also on board were this couple, Fingal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek,
03:12who ran a wellness centre in London, and posted this video before boarding their stricken flight.
03:18They were incredibly electric, especially as a couple.
03:21You could really feel the chemistry and the love between them,
03:25and incredibly bright people, warm people, who made people feel included and seen and heard.
03:33Those who lost loved ones now wait for any information about what caused this devastating crash.
