At today's House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) questioned Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN).

00:01Chair now recognizes Mr. Biggs from Arizona. Thank you Mr. Chairman. I get a

00:06kick out of you sanctuary state county city leaders who talk about having to

00:12deal with the border crisis. Cracks me up actually. At least at least Governor

00:17Pritzker you did call it a crisis in your statement I appreciate that.

00:21Ultimately as you said in your statement you received 50,000 illegal aliens into

00:25Cook County and Governor Hochul stated that New York received about 220,000

00:30illegal aliens. That's fantastic that you know those numbers roughly. Now I want

00:35you to imagine you're a southern Arizona community of about 80,000 people sitting

00:40right on the border and over the course of the Biden administration a couple of

00:44million people came through your little town and I quote you Governor Pritzker

00:52Illinois didn't ask for this crisis and I'm going to tell you neither did Yuma

00:56Arizona. Its lone hospital only hospital couldn't handle the influx nor could its

01:03single food bank its law enforcement its schools and other services and

01:08infrastructure. That was a failure you're correct on the part of the federal

01:13government under Joe Biden. That's all stopped now. That's all stopped now because

01:19it didn't take a new law it took enforcement of the current law but you

01:24know what drew a lot of those people because you might have been down there

01:27once I've been down there dozens of times taking more people from Congress

01:32down there than anybody else here and you know what those people told me they're

01:36coming here because they do they do want they wanted to get to places and they

01:41would name Chicago and they would name New York to me I'd say why the heck are you

01:45crossing here not crossing a del Rio because you guys offered sanctuary

01:52policies they believed that they would be protected in your jurisdictions and now

01:59these millions of illegal aliens are here permitted to get here by the

02:04Democrats in the Biden administration your jurisdictions actually hinder the

02:10enforcement of immigration laws because of the sanctuary policies you've

02:14adopted and then you have the temerity to complain about the influx of illegal

02:20aliens that strain your social services well you did that that's that's called

02:25that's not even an unintended consequences that's what it is so I'll ask you

02:30Governor Walts do you agree with Minnesota Attorney your Attorney General's

02:34opinion saying that it's not lawful for Minnesota counties to hold people for

02:38immigration authorities even with there is an immigration warrant do you agree with

02:42his statement that's his statement it's not yours I just want to know if you

02:45agree with him yet well I know you know this congressman that all 87 Minnesota

02:49counties follow federal law I don't know that I just want to know I want it I

02:54don't know though why would I know that I'm just going by your Attorney General I

02:57haven't he says not do it do you agree with the Attorney General that's all I'm

03:00asking the Attorney General is elected independently in Minnesota nothing in

03:05his opinion allows it in Minnesota are you telling me you don't you disagree with him

03:09could I just want you to answer the question you're not answering the

03:13question I served here congressman and there's the respect to the witnesses to

03:17just be able to yeah yeah there is and there should be respect and that respect

03:20from the witness should be to answer the question our counties and jurisdictions

03:24can do whatever they deem necessary they have to do you agree with your

03:28Attorney General apparently we don't know because you're not going to answer

03:31you're going to be oblique about it so that's unfair characterization I'm trying to

03:35answer I'm not the Attorney General Minnesota do you agree with do you agree with his his his

03:44his memo that's all I'm asking nothing and you don't want to even answer it you

03:52you Governor Pritzker a lawsuit was filed against you in the state of Illinois and

03:58you responded your your your your response to the claim is that Illinois as a

04:05quote constitutionally protected choice not to assist federal authorities with deportation

04:10close quote give me the give me the constitutional reference you're you're making

04:15there what are you referring to congressman I don't know the lawsuit that you're referring

04:22to and I don't know that I was the respondent in that lawsuit I can say that this is this is

04:28from from the response filed on your behalf so you didn't read the response well let me then

04:32ask you if that is the response officially of of you how is that consistent with Arizona

04:37versus US it's not how is it consistent with 8 USC 287 D3 it's not let's let's just

04:47cover the last 18 seconds when you guys say we're gonna we do that you say we do we do

04:54give these people the information only an an a criminal warrant is there any

05:00distinction in 8 USC 1373 a 1324 1324 C that says yeah you you don't have to give information

05:09you don't have to provide the body you don't have to respond to the ice detainer is there

05:14anything in there that says there's the distinction between the criminal law the

05:18criminal warrant the criminal detainer and a civil warrant civil detainer is there

05:23anything in there the answer is no I'll answer for you you do violate the law you are sanctuary cities

05:29and and every one of you sitting there if you don't know that by now you should know it walking

05:36out of here that you are actually committing a federal crime every time someone does that

05:42because you don't have the authority under federal law or under the Constitution to negate even a civil

05:49warrant for someone who's violated a federal offense when you get a detainer notice yield back
