00:00I yield back. Chair recognizes Mr. Higgins from Louisiana. Thank you Mr.
00:04Chairman. Governors, I guess thank you for being here today. This was staged to
00:15be, it was bound to be, you know, political conflict here. But I'd like to get pretty
00:26real with each of you. I know Governor Walz pretty good. He and I came to be,
00:30came to be, believe it or not, America. Governor Walz and I came to be quite
00:35friendly. I consider him a friend for many years. And it was fascinating that we
00:41disagreed on almost everything politically. I doubt there was a vote we
00:46had in common. But I'm pretty sure I could call Governor Walz and get a
00:51straight answer. Even now, at least in private. But a setting like this is
00:58difficult to get a straight answer. Because you're being viewed so closely.
01:05All of us are. So I'm gonna try and be real with you. And Governor Pritzker, I
01:11don't know you. Governor Hochul, I don't know you. I can tell you that that you
01:18strike me as extremely political, rather arrogant, quite smug, good lady. And it
01:26this, this is a serious topic, man. We have hundreds of thousands of Americans
01:34dead from fentanyl that came across our border. It was our nation suffered
01:40generational trauma for four years from open border policies. And we listened and
01:48in ad nauseam, speech after speech after speech about how it may orcas who struck
01:56me as equally smug in many horrific meetings. So we need more money. We need
02:02more laws. We never needed more money. We never needed more laws. We needed an
02:08executive branch that had the will to enforce the law and thus end the trauma
02:15that the American people were continually suffering at our southern border. Now, the
02:22impact of that policy remains. And sanctuary cities are a large part of this thing.
02:29And I don't know the life of you three, your background. I don't know if you've held the
02:39hand of a mother or father had to deliver to them the news that their child had been been
02:45killed by a violent criminal, prayed with that person. But I have. And the victims of crime
02:56commonly have a simple refrain. Why? Why? Why did this happen to my family? And I'm going to ask you,
03:09Governor Prisker, and you, Governor Hochul, what do you say to those people when, if you have,
03:16you ever had the courage to speak with one in person, in private, without cameras, and when they ask you
03:23why? Why was this horrible person invited to Illinois or New York? Why do your sanctuary policies
03:35encourage? Why did this guy that killed my daughter, why was he in my state? Why?
03:45Representative. Don't tell me it's limited resources. Representative. Don't tell me it's limited resources.
03:51I'll let you know when it's time for you to answer the question, madam. Okay. Don't tell me it's limited
03:57resources because we're talking about the resource of righteousness and goodness. And God controls the
04:05bank of righteousness and goodness. And there's no limit to that withdrawal. Governor Prisker,
04:14what do you tell a family when they ask you why? Why was this murderer in my state
04:20that came here across the border illegally and was encouraged to come to my state by your policies?
04:29Go. You said invited or encouraged 50,000 people were shipped to my state by a border state governor.
04:39I'm not beating them. I'm not beating them. I'm telling you, 50,000 people were shipped to my state by a
04:45Republican border state governor.
04:47Would you ship them back? 50,000 is a smidgen. We have 15 million crossed across the border. I understand.
04:53I'm glad they bust some to your state.
04:55And I have been clear about favoring border security. There was a bill last year on that very subject, sir.
05:05On the question of what I say to that family, I would say my heart is breaking for you. I'm a mother.
05:11When you describe the pain of a family like that, I've been there. I have held victims' families in my arms.
05:16That's a good start.
05:17And I'll tell you this. You appear to be a religious person, but we are called.
05:21Gentlemen, time's expired. Chair recognizes. Ms. Lee from Pennsylvania.
05:24Mr. Chairman.
05:24Mr. Chairman.
05:25Oh, oh. I recognize the ranking member for you to ask.
05:28Okay. A couple of things. One, I want to raise a point of order.
05:32It is against the rules to attack or to breach the decorum with respect to our witnesses.
05:40You look like this or you look like that. You look like this. You cannot criticize the countenance of a witness when they come before the committee.
05:51You can raise issues, no question, but you cannot personally attack a witness. That is not within the rules. That is not in accordance with decorum here.
06:02And I would raise that same concern if one of our members is attacking you.
06:07All right.
06:07All right.
06:07Proceed with unanimous consent.
06:09Secondly, unanimous consent. I have an asking unanimous consent to submit a document entitled Trump wants to cut funding to sanctuary cities and towns, but they don't actually violate the federal law.
06:22Without objection to order, Chair now recognizes Ms. Lee from Pennsylvania.
06:26Yeah. Thanks, Mr. Chair. It's always funny, the lack of decorum that we get and people drop.
