00:00I'm Angie Nelson and this young chap behind me is called Lars. His mother was a first-time mum
00:16and all went well when she first carved and then we noticed that he was hungry still so the next
00:26day although he was feeding he wasn't really getting anything so we had the vet out to just
00:32check on how much milk she had and it wasn't much at all. We gave her a jab of oxytocin which is a medicine
00:38which helps milk come down and we left it for another 24 hours and still nothing so we were okay
00:47we either let him die or we try and feed him so obviously we're not going to let him die so we
00:55know it's a massive amount of time which you have to put into calves when they've had when you kind
01:01of pull them for the mum so it's feeding every two hours. I've felt really privileged that I can
01:06have done this but also very tiring because unlike babies which you'd feed you know they're portable
01:14and transportable he's not so so yes so I've kind of been in between you kind of the different rooms
01:23that he's been in the garden but he's now he's two weeks old tomorrow morning and he's thriving and
01:31so actually that's reward enough. He'll be in here or based here until he's feeding he's not feeding
01:39through the night so the next step is from our family room where I'm sleeping with him overnight
01:46he will then come in stay with the dogs overnight and then we'll transfer him into a stable gradually
01:52with another reindeer and see how that goes but we've kind of just got to play it by ear and kind
01:58of see what he's telling us as well as what we are guiding him for. He's quite determined he's very
02:03playful but he's a climber which is why he's called Lars. He was known after the Swedish
02:10imagineer Lars Olaf Goran Knapp who was the first guy to climb Everest without oxygen or a Sherpa and
02:20so he can climb he'd climb over sofas he can climb out the pen which we'd had for him and the main
02:28reason is he climbed upstairs at three days old so yes so that's kind of how he ended up with that name.
02:40you
