00:00Peter Woods might be the most dominant defensive tackle in the 2026 NFL Draft.
00:05Here's why he's a surefire first-rounder in 2026.
00:12The main guy leading the discussion for the best defensive tackle in the 2026 NFL Draft,
00:18it's got to be Peter Woods from Clemson.
00:21Ryan, you and I, both big fans, what stands out to you the most about him?
00:26I mean, he fits the profile of low to the ground, built to play with great leverage all the time.
00:36He's explosive.
00:37But, Joe, this kid's so athletic, and I think we haven't even seen the full scope of his upside,
00:42but he's so athletic that, you know what Clemson did in 2024?
00:45I think it was a stupid decision, but they're like,
00:46hey, we're going to put him on the edge a lot at 6'2 1⁄2 probably and 310 pounds.
00:51He's not a long guy, and he should not be playing on the edge,
00:55but he's so athletic that Clemson said,
00:57to get as many defensive tackles on the field as we possibly can,
01:01Peter Woods is athletic enough to play on the edge.
01:03And he had some impactful plays from there.
01:05So I think this is a versatile, incredibly athletic, twitched-up interior defensive lineman
01:12that I think has a ton of upside that you can still tap into.
01:15Absolutely.
01:16The athleticism shines every single play.
01:19First step is something that I always write down if it stands out to me.
01:25Ed Orgeron, one of the greatest defensive line coaches that we've had in the last 30 years,
01:30I have read multiple times him referencing that,
01:33that if you have a guy with a great first step, that guy is going to find a way to win.
01:37That guy, maybe he loses initially in a rep, but because he's off the ball so quickly,
01:41it's a significant advantage.
01:42I think one thing that's interesting is that he's listed at six foot three.
01:47It's probably a little closer to six foot two, but he plays so low to the ground.
01:51If you told me he was five foot 11, the way that he looks on film by how low he plays,
01:54I'd be like, sure, that makes sense.
01:56That makes total sense.
01:56He looks shorter than he is in a good way that he plays so low and underneath offensive lineman.
02:02This is every single box checked for an interior guy.
02:06That's just going to be a freaking headache, quick-footed, just a spark plug.
02:11You know, he's not your space eater.
02:13He's the complete opposite.
02:14He is the guy that is just going to be jolting around and causing problems
02:18because he's that quick-footed and plays with such great pad level.
02:23The two biggest godsends this offseason for Peter Woods is one,
02:26new defensive coordinator, Tom Allen, a respected defensive mind in the industry.
02:31The other one is they got Will Heltz from Purdue as a transfer defensive end.
02:35So you know what that means, Joe.
02:37Peter Woods will be playing inside the majority of the time in 2025.
02:41And I can't wait, dude.
02:42He is a bowling ball of chaos.
02:45Like, he's a bowling ball of twitch.
02:47He is just an incredibly explosive player.
02:50Reminds me a little bit, and he's a bigger profile,
02:52but like Jarrell Casey that used to play with the Tennessee Titans
02:54was kind of the same guy, man.
02:56Like, built low to the ground, incredible first step.
02:59This is kind of the same player.
03:00Even though he is a smaller guy by NFL standards in terms of height and length,
03:04probably only about 6'2", probably just average length for the position
03:08from an arm length perspective, I do think that he could play in between
03:11both even and odd fronts because of the explosiveness and the power that he has.
03:15So we have not even seen close to the upside of Peter Woods as far as how,
03:20just how good he can be.
03:21And I anticipate that we're going to see a lot more of that in 2025.
03:24Hitting on his background in the 2023 class, him and TJ Parker, by the way,
03:31I found this out, both came from Alabama.
03:33That's super intriguing and also kind of silly that the Crimson Tide
03:36weren't in on both of these guys and super aggressive about getting them.
03:39He was the eighth overall defensive lineman, 59th ranked recruit,
03:44and the sixth recruit in the state of Alabama per 247 sports.
03:50He was also on a very, very storied program where he played in Alabama
03:56for Thompson, where he won multiple state championships.
04:01Yeah.
04:01And the state of Alabama has just gotten better and better over the last few years
04:05of developing talent.
04:06I feel like we always think of Texas, Florida, California, and Georgia
04:11has been another one that's been crazy the last few years.
04:14But Alabama has been trending upward.
04:15And yeah, for Clemson to be able to tap into that Alabama pipeline a couple
04:19years ago, you think of the great tradition that the defensive line has now
04:22been at Clemson, guys like Christian Wilkins, guys like Dexter Lawrence.
04:25Like there's been so many great defensive linemen that have come through
04:28and Peter Woods is obviously continuing that tradition.
