00:00Sammy Brown can be one of the best linebackers in college football in 2025.
00:05Stay tuned to find out why he is worth the hype.
00:12Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown quietly had one of the most exciting seasons
00:17for a true freshman that we've seen.
00:19Ryan, what makes this kid so talented?
00:22I mean, you just got to go back and look at his recruiting background
00:24and we'll get deeper into it, Joe.
00:26But this kid was at 6'2", 235 pounds.
00:31This was a decorated wrestler on the high school level.
00:35Was also a 10'7", 10'600 meter runner in track and field.
00:39So we are talking about a physical linebacker who can run for days
00:44and understands how to attack leverage with his wrestling background as well.
00:47This is just one of the more well-rounded athletes that we have seen at linebacker
00:51come out of high school in several years,
00:54which is why you saw him make an immediate impact for Clemson
00:57and why in 2025 he's ready to explode in the national scene.
01:00He was a really fun player to track and he's a big reason why I think
01:04the Clemson defense takes a step forward because we know all of the regular faces
01:10that we're going to talk about a lot this summer.
01:12T.J. Parker, Peter Woods, Demonte Capehart, Avion Terrell.
01:16But Sammy Brown, if he improves his instincts, his decision-making,
01:21the athleticism is only going to make him a more dynamic player.
01:24And despite him having a lot of inconsistencies with reading plays
01:28and him guessing from time to time, he still had 80 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss,
01:32and five sacks.
01:33That includes a spurt where in the beginning of the year,
01:36he wasn't even really a starting backer.
01:38He started to increase his role as the season went on,
01:41and you saw the defense improve as well.
01:43I really think that Sammy Brown is going to be an anchor for this team
01:47because he has, as you just mentioned, rare athleticism for a true freshman linebacker
01:52who looked the part.
01:54A lot of times these guys got to add weight, and that was not the case for Brown.
01:57Well, let's talk about the two godsends to Sammy Brown this offseason.
02:01One, Wes Goodwin out, Tom Allen in.
02:04That is a huge upgraded defensive coordinator.
02:06There should be a whole lot better because let's be honest, man.
02:08When you watched the film last year, there were so many guys that were asked to do things
02:13that just were not to their strength, and it was just not –
02:16like they were not set up to be successful last year under Coach Goodwin.
02:19Like they just weren't.
02:20So I think that that defensive coordinator switch needed to happen.
02:23And then the other godsend is you got Cape Hart back.
02:26Woods is returning.
02:27Tamarian Parker.
02:28TJ Parker is coming back.
02:30And you got Will Helt coming in from Purdue.
02:32So that defensive line is going to be stacked this year,
02:35which is going to allow guys like Sammy Brown to be able to run all over the place.
02:39Talking a little bit about his background and what people need to know about him,
02:44he was a former five-star recruit per 247 Sports,
02:48number two linebacker in the country out of Jefferson High School in Georgia.
02:53He was also the 19th overall recruit per the 247 Sports composite ranking.
03:00And one of the things that I always loved about him was just hearing a lot of the takes from recruiting analysts
03:07bringing up the random bits of athletic just achievements that he has,
03:11just an insane force generator.
03:15I also love this comparison on the 247 Sports website from Andrew Ivins comparing him to Miles Jack,
03:21who like you can see it, and you were telling me before we even taped this,
03:25that he also was prolific as a running back when he was in high school as well.
03:28So it makes some sense.
03:30Well, and 247 actually had a freaks list when he was coming out of high school,
03:34and Sammy Brown was number one on that freaks list in the 2023 recruiting class.
03:38I already mentioned his wrestling background.
03:40I mentioned his track and field background, so this kid can run.
03:44But his senior season at running back, he ran for 2,289 yards and 36 touchdowns.
03:52He averaged nine yards per carry.
03:54Also, Joe, on the defensive side of the ball, I've had 153 total tackles and 12 tackles for loss.
03:59He was named the linebacker of the year nationally for what he did on defense,
04:03but he was also just casually a 2,000-yard rusher on the offensive side of the football.
04:08Just casually.
04:09Maybe we should get some sub packages.
04:11He'd be the Travis Hunter of linebackers and running backs.
04:15Or the Miles Jack.
04:16Yeah.
04:16Good.
04:17Obviously, that was right in front of our faces.
04:19I'm always excited when young guys jump onto the scene and are able to get early exposure to playing time.
04:26And there's been a few linebackers we've seen over the past couple years.
04:29Like C.J. Allen's another guy that we'll end up doing a separate video on who comes to mind immediately.
04:34If we had to provide a projection, I think that this guy, he needs to improve again, his instincts.
04:41But this is a first-round-level prospect in 2027 if he is able to make that jump and show that progression,
04:50especially knowing that a guy like Jahad Campbell with an injury history and injury concerns was still a first-rounder because he tested so well.
04:57I mean, this kid is going to be 6'2", 235 already.
05:01He could be 240 pounds.
05:02He's going to run in the 4'5s.
05:04And he's going to do some freaky stuff from a testing perspective.
05:07So, yeah, as long as he has the progression that you want to see from a football player over the next year,
05:13like he is a guy that should be in that conversation for sure.
05:17This looks like a future first-round talent.
05:19Absolutely.
05:20It's just now about the nuance of playing the position.
05:23If that comes, then this kid is going to go very, very early whenever he declares.
