00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World and a brilliant sunny day here in Manchester.
00:05My name is Theo Cusenbett and today we're going to be looking at some of your transport updates for the week.
00:10Now there's two main stories that we're going to get into, some good news and some bad, so without further ado let's dive in.
00:16There's been a little bit of a snag in the planning for Cheadle's new train station.
00:20Rail bosses are now assessing the impact that it'll have on the line between Manchester and Chester.
00:25Now for those new to the story, planning permission was granted last year for a new station based just north of Cheadle High Street
00:32with a single platform proposed to allow for trains coming in both directions.
00:35The project is still expected to be approved eventually but the checks on how the opening would impact the line between Chester and Manchester Piquitoli station are causing delays.
00:45Now the line is currently used by both Northern Rail and Freight Trains so an in-depth knowledge is needed on how the extra stop would affect services both for Northern Rail
00:52but particularly for freight trains which you might sometimes see barrelling through at ungodly speeds.
00:58Now with funding already approved it's unlikely that the delays are anything other than simply delays
01:02but locals will be hoping that the plan gets moving soon and the MP for the area has called on the government to get moving.
01:09Now let's have some good news shall we?
01:11Last week Mayor Andy Burnham stated that the £2 fare cap on buses will be here to stay as part of a vision for an affordable public transport in the region of Greater Manchester.
01:20Now plans were unveiled last week for new tram stops, electric buses, trams, trains and much more
01:25but the key thing that many will be taking away is that services will remain as affordable as possible.
01:30Burnham has stated that the B Network's low cost relies on people using them though
01:34so if people cease riding buses or trams the cost may increase
01:37so please make sure you're taking advantage.
01:40It's a case of use it or lose it.
01:42But that's all for now. Follow Manchester World for more.
