00:00Here we take a look at the tail of the tape for our second bout of the night.
00:09You see Tomoya Saboi giving up quite a bit in terms of height and reach when it comes to amateur experience.
00:16As we mentioned, Saboi incredibly decorated and part of what was a really fabulous 1995 class of Japanese amateurs
00:27that included Kosei Tanaka, one of his close friends who retired earlier on this week.
00:33It kind of got overshadowed by Vasily Lomachenko's retirement.
00:37But of course, we all remember how quickly Kosei Tanaka took the boxing world by storm as a teenager.
00:43Saboi starting very late as a pro but looking to advance even quicker than his classmate in the professional ranks.
00:50Yes, absolutely. And a slight disappointment, Corey.
00:54It appears that he has left the low-cut Mizunos in the amateur ranks.
00:58You look at his old amateur fights. He's rocking low-cut Mizunos like he's 1987 Ricky Henderson.
01:04But as he's turned pro, we've seen him twice now with the all-black high tops.
01:09So RIP to the low-cut Mizunos.
01:12Well, he's 29 now. You need a little more ankle support.
01:14Yeah, absolutely. And one of the things I'm interested to see as this fight rolls on is that the last time we saw Suboi,
01:22it was a second-round knockout over their common opponent, Feon, Boomerang Feon.
01:28But the last time we saw him in a full-length competitive bout was in that Olympic qualifier in 2024
01:32against Tremendo Martinez from Colombia, and he gassed out midway through a three-round fight.
01:38So my question was whether or not he had expanded his gas tank in a way that would allow him to go through full-length professional fights.
01:46We haven't seen that yet because his first pro fight was only two rounds, but we might see it tonight.
01:50That's a couple good right hands there from Suboi as he continues to stab to the body of Tran with that lead hand.
01:57And, you know, Morgan, that's a question that he's frankly asked himself.
02:00And during interviews throughout fight week, he's talked about wanting to get a couple of rounds in.
02:06And as much as right out of the gate he said he wanted to challenge for a world title as quickly as possible,
02:11he sort of backed off on that a little bit, he says, until he knows what it feels like to go some rounds potentially against a fighter like Tran.
02:19Absolutely. When you think about the depth of this division, or at least the depth of this division at the world-class level,
02:28maybe I should call it the top heaviness of this division, you could get it, like for a guy in Suboi's position,
02:34he could move into a world title fight fairly quickly, but without those sort of intermediate markers of development along the way,
02:41he has no clue how he's going to function in a 12-round fight against somebody like Junto Nakatani.
02:46Goes again on the final 20 seconds of the opening round.
02:55It's been all Suboi here in the opening round. Tran not able to find his range.
03:01See the beautiful footwork of Tomoya Suboi flashing here in the early going.
03:09So he will no doubt cruise to a 10-9 round to kick things off. Nice right hand again right at the bell.
03:16.
03:23.
03:26.
04:03And the bearing of a man who has everything under control, whereas our man, the Trigger, again, described as the Vietnamese Mayweather, which he does when he has a fight sort of under his control, unfolding at his pace, which is not what's happening right now.
04:25So, all things being equal, all things being perfect for Tran, he likes to snap off a jab or two, snap off a counter right hand, and when you come back at him, he gets into his little Mayweather shell, which is where he got that nickname from.
04:39Except, Superboy's not letting him have the initiative, so he doesn't get a chance to one-two and then get back into his shell.
04:45Yeah, that nickname, of course, has its stylistic origins, but of course for Tran, he really is the most significant Vietnamese fighter today.
04:54There were only about five professional boxing events in Vietnam last year.
04:58He owns and runs the biggest gym in the country as well.
05:02He's trained some of the few prospects that we've seen on Western television as well.
05:07He promoted a fight in Vietnam last year as well, yes.
05:10So, one of the five.
05:11So, he's responsible for 20% of the pro boxing in Vietnam last year.
05:19Tran missing with that overhand right.
05:21So, boy, he's just had a free pass to the body of Tran here in the early going.
05:31So, boy, we can tell, just putting a little more zip on his punches here in the second round.
05:40And again, Corey, if you follow boxing Instagram, you might see videos, little highlights of Jake Paul's improved footwork.
05:51And they will tell you his footwork is on point.
05:54And it might be, but if you really want to see sharp, well-schooled, educated, functional footwork, take a look at Suboy.
06:03Well, credit to Tran who caught him with a good check left hook about 30 seconds ago.
06:07That's a better right hand from Suboy and a nice flurry to the body as well.
06:11And it was that flurry to the body that ultimately set up his first knockout win in his professional debut as Tran looks for another one of those left hooks.
06:26Nice right hand over the top again there from Suboy,
06:30who notably helped Saigo Yuri Okui get ready for his fight against Kenshiro earlier on this year.
06:38Clearly did some excellent work because Saigo Yuri Okui came very close to winning that fight, Morgan.
06:44That was, again, a fight of the year.
06:47Sign me up.
06:47Where we are on the East Coast, we had to wake up.
06:50I was up at 2 in the morning in the studio at 3.30 a.m.
06:53But if they're going to deliver action like that, sign me up every single time.
06:59DeMoye Suboy delivering a little more action here in the second round.
07:05Getting a little more audacious with some of those flurries.
07:08Tran's back against the ropes.
07:11Beautiful step-back counter there from Suboy as we'll head back to the corners.
07:15Thank you very much.
07:45See you very much.
07:50For the sake of this costume.
07:50Do lots of Nightman's battle work.
07:53Hщёon!
07:54Hooray!
07:55Round 3!
08:13Oh!
08:14It's round three underway.
08:18Terrific start for Tomoya Suboi, you saw during the replays.
08:23Some brief flashes of offense here from Van Thao Tran,
08:2733-year-old from Vietnam.
08:33Yeah, and Tran's problems so far tonight,
08:36the puzzle he's going to have to solve is just the relative difference in speed.
08:41What Suboi is offering him is so much different
08:43and so much faster than what he's used to.
08:45You look at Tran on video, he looks like the fast guy,
08:48and he is the fast guy until he comes up against a guy like Suboi.
08:52Suboi just continues to target the body of Van Thao Tran.
08:56It's almost been too easy, Morgan, for Suboi to land those body shots.
09:01It's almost they're there for him whenever he wants them.
09:03Absolutely, and Tran has not found a way to adjust to that.
09:07And again, just the stab-jab to the body continuing right there
09:12to disrupt Tran's rhythm.
09:17When Tran wants to set up a shot,
09:19when Tran wants to keep Suboi stationary to line him up for a shot,
09:23here comes that stab-jab.
09:25Tran has to reset.
09:26Despite his struggles thus far, it's a much better big right hand there again from Suboi.
09:34I'm going to say a better set of circumstances for Tran here tonight.
09:38He actually has his coach in his corner with him for that win last time out
09:43against Jack Rawood Manjogon in South Korea.
09:48He had to get there on a combination of a budget airline and a bus without his coach.
09:53He only had his hands wrapped five minutes before he walked to the ring
09:57by a volunteer who happened to step in and give him a hand, literally.
10:03So tonight was at least able to have a full camp
10:06and perhaps a little bit more of a luxurious ride to Tokyo.
10:11Well, he looks in great shape, and the thing we know about him
10:14is that he owns and operates the Saigon Sports Club,
10:198,000 square meters of combat sports paradise, Corey, if we're ever in Ho Chi Minh City.
10:26So he does have the backing, but what he doesn't have is the timing.
10:31Not against Suboi.
10:35Not so far.
10:38Counter to the body again, and another right hand there from Suboi.
10:41Make it two.
10:42That one had Tran temporarily on his heels.
10:46Tran continues to step forward and welcome this punishment,
10:51but again, he has not found a way to negate that body work of Tomoya Suboi,
10:56and that is starting to set up some head-snapping shots,
11:00like that right hand that was caught by the gloves of Tran.
11:04Seconds tick away here, and another dominant round for the 2021 World Amateur Champion.
11:14Let's see it.
11:44Let's go.
12:14In that last round, Corey, we saw the bind that Tran is in.
12:17When he waits and lets Suboi set the pace,
12:22Tran cannot get into the rhythm that he prefers.
12:25But when he leads, he often falls short and Suboi counters him.
12:29Which is, if he can't lead and he can't counter without getting hit,
12:32he's running out of ways to get back into this fight.
12:36Now, if there is a path, it's with that counter left hook,
12:39which he's landed twice and landed pretty well.
12:41But those have been the two flashes of offense, really, for Tran thus far.
12:47But you're right, Morgan, as he's pressed the issue more,
12:51that's when he's taken more punishment.
12:54You see right there, he throws that jab, Suboi gets underneath it
12:58and throws the jab to the body.
12:59One of them lands and it's not Tran.
13:03You see it again right there.
13:11Of course, we've talked about the theme for tonight being the Bantamweight division,
13:16which is where Suboi is currently.
13:18But he isn't convinced that he will remain here.
13:21He has thought about potentially going down to super flyweight,
13:26where he still feels that he could comfortably make that weight.
13:29And when you look at his body composition,
13:31I mean, this is a 5'3 Bantamweight, Morgan.
13:34Very stocky for the weight, still in terrific shape.
13:37But he feels there's more room for him to get down if he wanted to.
13:41He weighed in for his first, as he unloads on Tran again,
13:45he weighed in for his first pro fight at 116.
13:47Now, far be it for me to tell him how easy or hard it is to lose one extra pound.
13:52Yes.
13:53But he's within shouting distance of it if he really wants it, it appears.
13:56Again, in these weight classes, you always have to consider
14:01what percentage of one body weight that actually is.
14:05Yes, one pound to him is very different from one pound to me.
14:10And one pound to the median non-athlete.
14:14Another right hand to the body there from Suboi.
14:17We're inside the final minute of round four.
14:21Suboi, no doubt happy with how things are going.
14:23He said he wanted to go some rounds in this fight.
14:27He wanted to feel what it's like to get extended maybe into the second half of the fight.
14:32Nice right hand again there from Suboi over the top.
14:35Yeah, you saw Tran land a right hand at the beginning of that previous sequence.
14:41But Suboi's answer was so emphatic that in terms of making an impression on the judges,
14:47that right hand might as well not have landed.
14:50Yeah, and potentially making a mental impression on Tran.
14:53How many times do you want to take chances when you're getting countered like that?
14:58Yeah, and it would be different if he had shown the ability to hurt Suboi with one punch.
15:03If he was rattling Suboi every time, it would be something different.
15:06But he hasn't been able to do that yet.
15:08And that'll do it for round four.
15:14And that'll do it for round four.
15:14And that'll do it for round four.
15:48One of the biggest athletes in Japan.
15:53Tension Nasakawa getting set for his bout here tonight.
16:00He takes a big step up against Victor Santayon.
16:06And again, answering the question you and I had pre-fight, Corey,
16:10was what color was his mullet going to be tonight?
16:12And you see the tension is gone with basic black.
16:17I noticed we were commenting off-air about Tran's new ink.
16:21He has some new tattoos.
16:23He is Vietnam's Mayweather, but did you see the tattoo on his neck?
16:26I just noticed that as well.
16:28No boxing, no life.
16:29And Ode Canelo as well.
16:32Again, another right hand over the top from Saboy.
16:39Saboy just peppering him with that jab, working upstairs and downstairs.
16:42And again, up until now, Tran has had no answers.
16:47The openings that were there for Saboy in the opening round have continued to be there.
17:00We talked about the graduating class, that 95 class of fighters in Japan.
17:05Think about the depth of that class.
17:09We mentioned Kosei Tanaka.
17:11Tomoya Saboy, a part of that of course.
17:13Diego Higa.
17:14Ryuya Yamanaka.
17:15Takuma Inoue.
17:16Shokichi Iwata.
17:18And Siyana Okazawa.
17:19Every single one of those fighters became a world champion.
17:23The exception being Siyana Okazawa, who also won a world amateur championship the same year as Tomoya Saboy.
17:30Again, just speaks to the depth of talent in Japan, but also the development system.
17:36Yes.
17:37And again, we're talking about a country where high schools and universities have boxing programs.
17:43And it's a little bit more like how basketball is in North America in the sense that you can go to the Olympics,
17:49but the Olympics and high level international amateur competition is sort of incidental
17:54because what you really focus on is how you develop in high school and university.
17:58Right, which is why it took until 2021 for a Japanese man to win a world amateur championship.
18:04Yes.
18:05Or you will see, you look at people on BoxRec and you'll see Japanese fighters who go straight into high level pro fights
18:10and you think you would see a really long amateur resume and you don't because a lot of these high school
18:16and university fights don't show up on BoxRec the way international fights would.
18:19But it does not mean they're not getting high level amateur experience because they absolutely are.
18:24There again, you see Tran unleashing that right hand and paying for it.
18:43And Tsuboe answers again with a one-two to the body.
18:47You can hear Tsuboe vocalizing a little more as he threw that right hand to the body.
18:53Get the sense that Tsuboe is taking a step a little bit closer.
18:58Maybe thinking about whether Tran is starting to weaken a little bit.
19:10Steps back in with another straight right hand.
19:12Pops the head back of Tran as we head back to the stools.
19:16Pops the head wanted to make a step a little bit easier.
19:21Like that.
19:35Have you already had just a grippe?
19:37Yes.
19:39I'm not going to be able to do it.
20:09It's round six underway.
20:20Of course, still to come, our main event later on,
20:22the Vantamweight unification between Juto Nakatani
20:25and Ryosuke Nishida.
20:27Coming up next, you're going to get another look
20:29at Tenshin Nasakawa as he takes on Victor Santayon.
20:33Tenshin had to take some selfies with Vantau Tran,
20:36who was very excited to meet Tenshin
20:39at the weigh-in.
20:40Apparently, Nasakawa, as he is in Japan,
20:43a massive star in Vietnam.
20:46And again, if you go back and watch video of Tran
20:48in the fights where he's in control,
20:50Tran when he's being his best self,
20:52you can tell that he watches a lot of Mayweather,
20:55but also watches a lot of Nasakawa.
20:57And then sort of, as I was explaining to you off-air,
21:00when Tran goes to sleep at night
21:02and envisions the type of fighter he is,
21:03he pictures himself as a guy who is as good as Nasakawa.
21:07Stylistically, when he's on his game, they're very similar.
21:11But Suboy's just not letting Tran get started tonight.
21:20And again, that jab to the body.
21:22A little more emphasis on these body shots here
21:26from Suboy right now.
21:29And what you're seeing, too, is Tran's trying to throw
21:32that counter right when Suboy jabs and just falling short.
21:35It's a nice right hand right to the belt line.
21:38When I say emphasis on body shots,
21:40I mean velocity and not commitment to them
21:43because that has been persistent since the opening bell.
21:46From the beginning, exactly.
21:59Quick combination there from Suboy,
22:01finishing with the right hand of the body again.
22:04See swelling, developing badly around
22:08that right eye of Van Tau Tran.
22:10It is closing up, and it is reddening.
22:12That's what I was going to say, Corey,
22:13is you see the contrast between rounds.
22:17Suboy's still not even breathing through his mouth,
22:20breathing through his nose between rounds.
22:21In full conversation with this corner man,
22:23whereas Tran, yeah, you're starting to see
22:24this damage accumulate.
22:27Right there.
22:30Counter left hook, another one.
22:32Yeah, Suboy twice in a row there.
22:34He was just waiting for the right hand of the body
22:36from Tran so he could land that left hook.
22:38Tran fell right into the trap of Tomoya Suboy.
22:48Just glides around the ring.
22:51Just fantastic footwork from the 29-year-old
22:55who has lived a full life already, Morgan.
22:58He's a university graduate.
22:59He was a lieutenant in the Japanese military,
23:02world amateur champion,
23:03and now potentially on the brink of a world title shot
23:08just a handful of fights into his pro career
23:11as he will cruise his way to the end of the round.
23:15Thank you very much.
23:45Now on the 7th.
24:15It's round 7 underway.
24:21Saw the facial damage on Van Tao Tran there in the corner.
24:27We've alluded to everything he's overcome in his life,
24:31and that list is lengthy.
24:33We didn't mention the fact that when he was 22,
24:36doctors told him that because of the way
24:39that his spinal discs were deteriorating,
24:42that he had the bones of a 40-year-old,
24:44and if he didn't have surgery and he continued boxing,
24:47that he might be paralyzed.
24:48He had the surgery, and he's continued on with his career.
24:53So it's somewhat of a medical miracle
24:55that he is in the ring today,
24:57and even able to be competitive here as he is to the degree that he is against Tumoya Suboy.
25:04Corey, as a man in my mid to late 40s,
25:07what I wouldn't give for the bones of a 40-year-old at this point in my life.
25:11But a couple of things.
25:14Thinking back to, again, Suboy's last amateur fight against Tremendo Martinez,
25:19the thing that really bothered Suboy that night
25:21and the thing he could not overcome was just the volume punching.
25:25And so when you think about how these styles mesh together,
25:27the thing that Tran does not offer is volume punching
25:30in a way that he might be able to get back into this fight
25:33would be to follow Martinez's template,
25:36except stylistically he's just not equipped to do that.
25:39But the other thing is, again, thinking back to that fight
25:43and the way that Tumoya faded in the second half of a three-round fight,
25:49he appears at least at this pace and at this level of opposition
25:53to have solved these questions around his conditioning.
25:57Because here he is, six and a half, seven rounds,
26:01into a pretty high-level fight, still breathing easily,
26:04still capable of these types of outbursts.
26:07Yeah, about a 15-punch combination or so there from Tumoya Suboy
26:11as Vantau Tran laughs it off and steps forward.
26:18Important to note in those final amateur bouts for Tumoya Suboy
26:21that he says that he was dealing with a serious illness.
26:25In fact, he backed out of his final, final amateur bout
26:28because of that illness.
26:30Took a little time away before stepping into the professional game.
26:39Yeah, and you can see it on him.
26:41Like, he has a little bit more muscle mass.
26:45And again, you see him between rounds.
26:47Like, the output is not wearing on him.
26:50He goes back to his corner between rounds,
26:51breathes calmly, engages in conversations with his coaches.
26:54He's not a guy that's struggling to maintain this pace.
27:04Nice counter right hand there from Suboy,
27:07who's starting to play around a little bit.
27:09Some different looks.
27:11Another shoeshine combination to the body of Vantau Tran.
27:15They'll be right here.
27:24Let's see.
27:28Let's see.
27:38Let's see.
27:39All right.
27:40Let's see.
27:40Let's see.
27:41It comes.
27:42Let's see.
27:43All right.
27:44Let's see.
27:44so
28:08now round a
28:14round eight
28:18begins
28:18this bantamweight battle
28:22between Tomoya Saboy and Van Tao Tran
28:24big night for the
28:28Taikan Boxing Club
28:30of course one of the very best in the world
28:32Tomoya Saboy
28:33a member of that club
28:35his chairman
28:38believes that Saboy
28:39might be the strongest fighter to ever come through
28:42those doors and there have been some
28:44legends
28:44that have trained there of course as he places another
28:48right hand right through the guard
28:49Van Tao Tran who's trying to come back with some
28:52body work of his own
28:53when he's done that though Morgan as you pointed out
28:56that happens he gets countered up top
28:57and
28:58that sort of mini sequence
29:01we saw a few seconds ago might have been
29:03Tran's best stretch of the fight
29:05he landed that jab landed a right hand to the body
29:08and again when he gets in return
29:09he's peppered
29:12now Corey when they say
29:14Saboy is the strongest fighter
29:16to come through that gym
29:16do they mean strongest meaning
29:18best overall
29:20I believe that is what they mean
29:22yes yes
29:23I think it's best overall
29:24like you put him in a clean and jerk contest
29:26right yeah
29:26this boy just measuring Tran with that lead hand now
29:51yeah and again keeps coming back to that stab
29:53to the stab jab to the body
29:56and Tran so far has no answers for that
29:59you see Saboy leaning in now
30:02this is the posture
30:03Morgan of a fighter who believes that maybe hurting Tran
30:06yes
30:07could be a possibility
30:08not really bothering to dart in and out
30:13with regularity as he was in the first
30:15let's say six rounds of this fight
30:18he's just planting his feet daring
30:20Tran to beat him to the punch
30:22yeah and he understands too that
30:24every time
30:25if Tran throws a jab
30:27there's a nice left hook from Tran
30:29but if Tran throws a jab
30:30to try to stop Saboy from coming in
30:32Tran is also wary of the counters
30:34that are coming back over the top of that jab
30:36so he's very wary about
30:37unleashing that jab
30:39counter shot to the body
30:50nice left hook up top there
30:52from a Tomoya Saboy
30:53and then catches the left hook
30:54of Van Tao Tran
30:56Saboy finishes another sequence
31:00with a straight right hand to the body
31:02pitching backwards there
31:05throwing that jab at the end of combination
31:07final 10 seconds of the round
31:12as a Tomoya Saboy
31:15pitches backwards so to speak
31:16potentially on his way
31:18to a complete game
31:19run to the 포o and not to the next one
31:22on his way
31:26to a Kosko
31:26and keep doing this
31:28the right hook
31:31on his way
31:31to the left hook
31:32in front of the other
31:33for others
31:33that will follow me
31:34oh my god
31:35and I start off
31:35going to the other
31:36I start off
31:36in the middle of the
31:38coming
31:38and I start off
31:39on his way
31:39to a we
31:40want to make it
31:41I start off
31:41on his way
31:42and I start off
31:44How did I go?
32:06Cute man.
32:08So two to go in this one.
32:192021 World Amateur Champion Tomoya Saboy
32:23on an extreme fast track in his pro career,
32:28getting a late start at the age of 29.
32:34And the heavy end underdog, Van Tau Tran.
32:38Hanging in there, has had a couple glimpses of offensive success.
32:45Just the difference in class and in processing speed
32:49is becoming more apparent round after round.
32:52Again, if you watch Tran's other fights on videos,
32:55he's not a guy that is going to punch necessarily when the opponent is punching.
32:59He's on offense or he's on defense.
33:01He doesn't really mix the two.
33:03He's punching or he's covering.
33:04Whereas Saboy has figured out how to punch in between Tran's punches,
33:09how to punch when Tran is punching,
33:10make Tran miss while Saboy is unloading.
33:14And it's just a capability that Tran doesn't have.
33:16And this is the thing that separates the two of them.
33:17You're starting to see, too, a reddening around Tran's ribcage.
33:28Again, testament to the sustained body attack from Saboy.
33:33Considering how consistent that attack has been,
33:40it's surprising that it's taken this long for the reddening to become apparent.
33:45Also because you can't see it from the tattoos, Corey.
33:47That's right.
33:56The downside of the tattoos is that they obscure sometimes your muscle definition.
34:01You wouldn't know that Tank Davis is ripped fight week
34:05because the tattoos cover a lot of it.
34:07But the upside is, yeah,
34:09when the damage from the body attack starts to accumulate,
34:13you don't always see it because he has those two tattoos covering it up.
34:19As we admire the ink of Tran,
34:22it is the paint job from Tomoya Saboy that is the story thus far.
34:27Again, he is just leaning in, daring Tran to exchange with him.
34:31And he might have broken through here.
34:33Tran in trouble, leaning against the ropes.
34:36Look at the courage of Tran.
34:37Still continuing to push forward.
34:41Despite being ravaged for nine rounds here.
34:4430 seconds to go here in the ninth round.
34:47Really the first time that we've seen Saboy able to visually hurt Tran in this fight.
34:54And sort of forcing Tran to break character and try some new things.
34:58He seems to try that downward arcing left hook.
35:00You've seen him come forward now because he's figured out
35:03he has to do something a little bit different.
35:05Because fighting the way he normally fights is getting him tattooed in a different sense here.
35:10Blazing hand speed there from Saboy on that last combination
35:14as we will head into the final round.
35:47Well, there's a monster in our midst.
35:56An interested observer of the main event.
36:01Now we're in a way.
36:05Going to get a warm ovation from the audience as is Tomoya Saboy.
36:10So we head into the final round.
36:14A show of respect there from Saboy and Tran.
36:18And they will agree to meet in the middle, forehead to forehead here, for the final round.
36:23And again, this is not at all what Tran wants to do, but this is basically the last thing he can do to try to make something happen for himself in this fight.
36:34But again, the difference in hand speed, difference in processing speed, one guy's ability to punch when the other guy is punching.
36:41He's always going to leave Tran a little bit short.
36:45Unless he can land one big punch that can hurt Saboy.
36:48And he hasn't shown the ability to do that tonight.
36:50Breaking the action here.
36:51I believe tape very loose on the glove of Tran.
36:55We'll get that sorted out.
36:56We'll get back to the action.
37:14But even these last couple of rounds have been valuable experience, Morgan, for Saboy.
37:20Just having sustained inside work.
37:22Absolutely.
37:22This is not something, you know, obviously the modern amateur game is a lot more reminiscent to what the pro game is.
37:30But these types of long inside exchanges are something that are relatively new to Saboy.
37:38And he's been able to thrive in these moments.
37:40Look at that uppercut through the middle.
37:41And also the ability to sustain an attack, but also the ability to have to make adjustments over the course of an 8, 10, 12 round fight.
37:50Because in the amateurs, you don't have to do that.
37:53And if you can take the initiative in the first two rounds, that leaves your opponent short.
37:57Because even if they make the adjustment in round three, you've got rounds in the bank.
38:00Pro fighting is very different.
38:03And so the ability to do this over the course of rounds is something new.
38:07He's proven it to himself and he's proven it to the rest of us.
38:11That he can sustain an attack without tiring out.
38:15That he can make adjustments and adjust his opponent's adjustments.
38:22There also is the element, too, for Saboy of wanting to be exciting.
38:27Of course, if you follow the Japanese scene, it's not uncommon at all for fighters to apologize for not scoring a knockout.
38:36Apologize for a fight not being as entertaining as they want it to be.
38:39Obviously, that's a cultural twist as well.
38:43But Saboy, I think, understanding, hey, I might want to make this a little more entertaining.
38:48I can outbox him for 10 rounds.
38:50But what will the reviews be if I simply do that?
38:52Yes, especially in a division, again, that's so top-heavy with talent.
38:56You have to do something to stand out from the other elite performers in this division.
39:02Good combination here from Saboy.
39:07Machine gun combination to the body and then steps back with a nice right hand.
39:12Because with so many other elite performers, what does it profit you to do the safe thing every time when people can always say,
39:20well, I will just watch the other guy because he will not just perform, but he will entertain.
39:25So Saboy understands that's part of his job.
39:28That was a big uppercut to the body from Saboy a moment ago.
39:32Big right hand, too.
39:34And he just has Tran flailing.
39:35A courageous effort from Tran here tonight.
39:41You see the emotion on his face.
40:05Oh, and you're impressing the world champions sitting ringside.
40:28Certainly says something.
40:29A smile on the face of Tomoya Saboy.
40:32Saboy, not just a boxer, but he's a boxer's boxer.
40:35That's right.
40:36The other boxers appreciate his work.
40:49As we await the scorecards here, not exactly any drama.
40:54In terms of who is going to win this fight, just will there be a cursory round or two
40:59that was given to Tran in this one?
41:03I think it would be pretty difficult to find one,
41:05although in some of those you-go, I-go type inside rounds,
41:10once in a while you'll see a judge flip one to the other fighter.
41:14But we're going to make it official as we send it back to Jimmy Lennon Jr.
41:17Ladies and gentlemen, after 10 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards.
41:21We have a unanimous decision.
41:23Here are the score totals.
41:25Edward Ligas, judge at ringside, scores about 98 to 92.
41:30Judges Tetsuya Iida and Surat Soikra-Chang both score about 100 to 90.
41:36All three in favor of the winner.
41:39He is now the WBO Asia-Pacific batomweight champion, Tomoya Suboi.
41:57Tomoya Suboi, now 2-0 as a professional.
42:01You heard the score is 190 twice.
42:03And as we talked about, there were two rounds that one judge was able to give
42:08Van Tau Tran for his effort here tonight.
42:12And as we talked about...
