Former homeless man opens business and offers a fresh start to others

00:00So I've always said that I've never changed anything in the past to do with being in care or

00:17police interactions or anything like that just because that's who I've become now. I've met

00:21the people that I've met through those. Some are great and some were not the best influence so I've

00:26sort of just guarded those but definitely like it's driven me to it's driven me to sort of set it up

00:36and what I've realized is although it is hard working for yourself is probably the best option

00:43because with some of the issues I've had you know I've had anger issues in the past I've had

00:47cancer and things like that and sometimes I can react to people and maybe not the nice nicest way

00:56or I'll react to somewhere like react to someone's behavior especially in casinos when they're

01:02kicking off and losing money I'll get a bit irate they'll get a bit irate and that's not what I want

01:07I want to come to work I want to enjoy myself and I want to just obviously make sure and

01:15I'm a youth worker as well so I do the odd evening sessions mobile youth clubs and

01:21and like Alice they have a number of staff outside there she was one of the young people at the youth

01:26club and she was after job she's over 18 now she's 19 I think now and so I want to give people that

01:34want jobs especially younger people because I feel like younger people especially at 18 19 but

01:40younger adults haven't aren't given those opportunities businesses want to hire someone

01:45that knows what they're doing most businesses most young people 18 19 don't know they're still

01:50kids to some degree and I want to give chances to those to young people to offenders to people that

01:58have been in similar situations as me where if you look at their dbs or you look at their

02:03you know on their paperwork and you're like oh I wish I had this person but just because you were

02:07done for 10 years ago or something doesn't mean you're going to be nicking from until every two

02:11seconds so I think I want to open up this business to give other people other people opportunities to

02:16sort of better themselves as well
