00:00Hi there, it's been a showery start to June and this weekend continues the theme, but
00:06Saturday in particular will be a lively day with some very heavy downpours and thunderstorms
00:12as this area of low pressure turns up. It's being deepened by the jet stream, the jet
00:16stream dipping to the south of the UK, so we've got this upper low pressure in the atmosphere
00:21and a surface low pressure, and that surface low pressure, as it's spun up by the jet stream,
00:26we'll develop more isobars, so it's also going to be windy, particularly on the southern
00:30flank of that low for Saturday across the south and south-west of the UK. And it's towards
00:36the south-west that we start the day with the heaviest showers, and in fact, these big blobs
00:41of rain indicating some longer spells of wet weather first thing, moving through South
00:47Wales, southern England, into the Midlands. Could be some thunder and lightning associated
00:52with the showers as well, and those brisk winds, risk of gales for exposed south, southern
00:57and south-western coasts. So, yeah, not an ideal day for outdoor plans, and it's a very
01:02showery picture as we go into the afternoon across the rest of the UK as well. Very few
01:06places avoiding the showers, in fact, on Saturday, one or two spots across north-east England,
01:11eastern Scotland, and the north of Scotland perhaps staying largely dry, but it is going
01:16to be very showery across the board. Here's the same sequence again, but showing the whole
01:21of the UK with the cloud included throughout Saturday. We start the day with the liveliest
01:25weather moving through the south-west, as was Wales. That then pushes into the Midlands
01:29and the south-east later. The showers more scattered across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:33but even here, the chance of some heavy downpours at times. And feeling on the cool side, particularly
01:39where we've got that brisk wind in the south, but all areas will see temperatures a little
01:43below average for the time of year. 17-18 in the south, 13-14 further north. There will be some bright
01:50spells in between the showers, but really it's a generally cloudy and showery day. Now, that low
01:56pulls away into the North Sea on Sunday, but we keep those showers going for a time in the east
02:01as the day begins. Otherwise, we've got an unstable north-westerly airflow, so still some showers
02:07about on Sunday, but without low pressure directly over us, it's certainly going to be less lively
02:12compared with Saturday. We start the day with cloud, wind, and showers across the east coast,
02:17but then the focus turns more towards the north-west as the afternoon approaches, with the heaviest
02:23and most frequent showers pushing into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. Scattered showers
02:27elsewhere, but certainly fewer compared with Saturday. A better chance of dry and bright
02:32weather in between, some sunshine turning up across the Midlands and the south-east in
02:36particular. However, there will again be a lot of cloud in the sky. Still a cool breeze,
02:41but it's not going to be as strong as Saturday. Temperatures similar compared with Saturday,
02:46although perhaps feeling a little less cool, where we've got lighter winds and some more sunshine
02:52across some central and eastern parts. Then, whilst it stays cool and changeful at first
02:58next week, we've got the heat building across Iberia. And as that heat builds, it starts to expand
03:06through Tuesday, Wednesday, and into Thursday. There's the potential for that heat to approach
03:12from the south towards the middle part of next week. Some uncertainty at the moment on the exact
03:17position and shape of the low pressure to the west, which will dictate how far the hot air to the south
03:23pushes north across the UK. And with that low pressure to the west, always the chance of some
03:30instability, combining with the heat and humidity, to allow for perhaps a thundery breakdown to occur
03:36by the end of next week. Nevertheless, there are some signs of drier and more settled weather by
03:42the third week of June, with high pressure a little more influential, although that's a long
03:46way off. And certainly for this weekend, it stays very cool, very changeable. And watch out for those
03:52strong winds and heavy showers, particularly in the south.
