00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Houstonbets and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester
00:04asking people about school meals and in particular processed meat.
00:08We want to know if people think that schools should be going vegetarian
00:11or whether they think there are little changes that they can make to balance this out.
00:15It was that real moment when food in schools became very healthy
00:19and I work in schools very often and now it seems to have gone back quite a lot.
00:24Why are children being served so much processed meat?
00:28Is it that the schools are chronically underfunded and can't afford proper ones?
00:32Yes, probably. I'm sure that if the schools had proper funding they would provide less processed meals, right?
00:38School's that one place where they can pick up good eating habits that are going to last them for their whole lives.
00:45So I think processed meats in schools we know is a carcinogenic, right?
00:51So you just know, you just can't do it.
00:54I appreciate then there's cost implications and who's paying for that and how are we paying for that and all the rest of it.
00:59All the rest of it.
