00:00From trance tariffs to live cattle exports, all things beef were under the spotlight at the 2025 Australian Brahman Breeders Association Conference in Catherine in the Northern Territory.
00:11The event also included visits to stations, most of which have been experiencing very good seasonal conditions, and live ex-spelling yards, where breeders were filled in on what it is Indonesian buyers are chasing in cattle.
00:23Currently Indonesia's in a little bit of a flat area, but we still have that massive population there, 280 million people eating 2.7 kilograms of beef per person per year, so growth year on year with the population is excellent, and we're also seeing an increase in the GDP per person. At the end of the day, we've got good steady growth.
00:43One probably big question mark is just, you know, what might actually come out of some of the stuff going on in the US at the moment, what that means for consumer confidence over there at the moment.
00:53Everything looks okay, consumer demand is very strong, but there's a degree of uncertainty in that space.
01:00The 25th anniversary Ponderosa bull sale was also on the agenda.
01:04There's up to $300 freight on a live export steer leaving Darwin, going to Indonesia, their raw material costs are going up, so I think there's going to be an expectation.
01:15They're going to keep going back to people with high-performing records and high-performing genetics, just chasing that better daily gain and lower cost of feed.
