00:04The Bengaluru Stampede has once again exposed how crowd frenzy can rapidly descend into a human tragedy in this country.
00:13What makes this particular tragedy even worse is how and why did the celebrations continue even as reports of death were streaming in.
00:21The local administration and the event organizations have much to answer.
00:26Were they really prepared to handle this crowd surge?
00:29And if they were not, what mattered more?
00:32A public spectacle with netas associating themselves with cricketers or crowd safety?
00:39There is a Congress government in Karnataka, so the BJP is calling for political resignations and accountability.
00:45A few months ago, during the Kumbh Mela, it was a BJP government in Uttar Pradesh that was in the dock.
00:52This is not a time for the usual water boundary.
00:55But to ensure that those responsible for gross negligence are taken to task.
01:01Equally importantly, there is a need for genuine introspection.
01:05Does human life in India come so cheap that we simply move from one stampede to another, one headline to another, with little lessons learned?
01:14The cricket team did Bengaluru proud.
01:25Those organizing the celebrations in a hurry clearly failed the city.
01:30Yes, we need more orderly fan celebrations, but for God's sake, we also need better crowd control and preparation.
01:40Sadly, Bengaluru, a city that sees itself as a 21st century IT capital, failed miserably on both counts.
01:49Let me not say more, thanks for watching, my prayers and thoughts today, with the families of the victims.
01:58Think about them, stay well, stay safe.
02:01Good night, Shubhratri, Jai Hind, Namaskar.
