00:01Who doesn't love to travel?
00:03Today we're visiting Count Dracula's Castle in Transylvania, Romania.
00:07This destination attracts 1 million tourists each year.
00:10Travelling is a passion, but tourism also presents many challenges.
00:14The European project Tourism in Balance is being launched to rethink the sector.
00:21Most tourists want to see some highlights or travel the same place others go.
00:27How can you entice them to go just to another spot that is less crowded but also very interesting?
00:39Six European cities, including Rome, Amsterdam and Brasov in Romania,
00:43are working hand in hand under the leadership of Brady University of Applied Sciences.
00:49The main goal is to help the partners to improve their strategies and policies
00:55to overcome over-tourism by distributing the tourists in time and space.
01:03The partners meet in Brasov in the heart of Transylvania to share strategies.
01:08This city, with its great tourism potential, aims to learn from the challenges already faced by its partners,
01:14such as Amsterdam or Rome, to avoid overcrowding.
01:17Our main goal is the sustainable development of the entire metropolitan area, both urban and rural.
01:26So, if we manage to redirect tourists from the most crowded areas to the less crowded ones,
01:34we will have benefits for the entire community.
01:37This project has cost approximately 1.75 million euros.
01:43The European Union has financed 80%, while the remaining 20% comes from the partners.
01:49One of the region's flagship initiatives to redistribute tourism is the Gastrolocal Programme.
01:55Residents in these rural areas open their homes to offer home-cooked meals,
02:01at a fixed price of 16 euros, under the supervision of health authorities.
02:08Gastrolocal is an association that has been founded in our localities
02:12due to the fact that tourists who visited the area
02:17have no place to serve the food.
02:19One of the conditions is that 70% of the products must be locally sourced.
02:27The products are bio-produced, made by the producers of our localities.
02:35So, there is no difference.
02:37What we consume in the family, the food we serve as tourists.
02:42This gastronomic experience benefits residents, local producers, and tourists alike.
02:49It offers a unique opportunity to discover the region, away from mass tourism.
