Portugal deploys 2,500 firefighters as wildfires force village evacuations

Authorities in Portugal deployed hundreds of firefighters across 10 wildfires, evacuated four villages, and arrested a suspect linked to four blazes in the north.

00:00More than 2,000 firefighters are battling blazes across Portugal, especially in the northern and central regions of the country.
00:10The largest contingent of responders were deployed in the town of Aruca, with 675 firefighters on the ground since early morning.
00:19This is a combat of all, and for that we need the diligence and the behavior that can be oriented according to what is required in every moment to reduce the risk and save what is essential.
00:40The fire in Ponte de Barca had turned out to be the most significant challenge given its size and complexities involved in accessing resources to put out the flames.
