Portugal battles with fires: 62,000 hectares burned and seven lives lost

Hot weather has pushed over 50 municipalities across nine mainland districts in Portugal to maximum fire risk, complicating containment efforts and resulting in seven deaths since the weekend.

00:00Wildfires continue to rage across northern and central parts of Portugal. The fires have

00:09claimed seven lives and injured over 40. Since Sunday, over 62,000 hectares have been scorched.

00:17The government has declared a state of emergency as over 50 municipalities remain under maximum

00:24We are all together, the Portuguese are together, the firefighters are together, the fire stations

00:32are together, we are together as an organization of sovereignty in the same cause. And that

00:51More than 6,000 firefighters have been mobilized, most of which were deployed in the Avairu
