More than 1,000 firefighters battle three major blazes in Portugal

Blazes broke out in Arouca, Ponte da Barca and Penamacor after weeks of sweltering heat prompted authorities to place parts of the country on yellow alert for heat risk.

00:05areas of Oroca, Ponte de Barça and Penamacor on Tuesday, authorities said.
00:11In Ponte de Barça, nearly 400 firefighters, more than 100 land vehicles and two helicopters
00:17have been mobilized to fight the flames.
00:30In Oroca, more than 600 firefighters have been sent to fight the fires, which prompted
00:35authorities to evacuate a village and close the popular Paiva walkways.
00:42In Penamacor, the fight against the flames is going well, according to the regional command.
00:51The majority of Portugal, except the Faro region, is under a yellow alert until at least Thursday
00:55following weeks of soaring temperatures.
