Firefighters and locals battle blaze as fires sweep northern Portugal
Firefighters and local residents battle flames surrounding the Portuguese village of Busturenga, in an area where several wildfires have been raging for several days. "It was panic," says Maria Fatima, a resident recalling the fire's arrival in Busturenga, "I'd never seen anything like it." Portugal has received pledges of support from its European partners since the outbreak of a string of fires over the weekend. According to authorities, a dozen firefighters have been injured.
