In this candid clip, Datuk Norman Abdul Halim reflects on the reality of being in the spotlight and the limits of popularity, even at KRU’s peak.

He shares an honest take on artistic expression, saying that as long as an artist can connect with their audience, that in itself is valid, whether they’re mainstream, provocative, or simply different.

A powerful reminder that success isn’t always measured by sales, but by impact and relatability.

00:24So, I'm not trying to defend those who are not really inclined towards having the perfect pitch
00:30or being able to write the kind of songs that is what's considered mainstream.
00:35But everybody that produces content, definitely they want to capture a certain audience.
00:43So, I think as long as you entertain your audience and they are entertained, that's fine.
00:49Some people may not like KRU and we accept that reality.
00:52I know, I just had that conversation just now that, you know, even at our peak,
00:57the highest sales that we got was only about 200,000 copies.
01:01And Rayhan back then did about 600,000 copies.
01:04So, and even like Ella did about 300,000 copies.
01:06So, we realised that the reality is that we only can do so much with the kind of music that we produce
01:13and we capture our audience.
01:14That's the most important thing.
01:16So, whether these artists, we consider them with talent or not,
01:19as long as they are able to actually capture the attention of their target audience
01:23and their audience, you know, can relate to their content,
01:26then what's wrong with that?
01:27So, I think that's fine.
