00:00Spring 2025 has been a double record breaker, reflecting just how extraordinary this spring has been.
00:07Now we reported last week that it was already the sunniest spring on record,
00:13but we can now confirm that it's also been the warmest spring on record,
00:17taking the lead after last year having been the warmest spring on record.
00:22And it's not just the UK, all four nations have recorded their warmest spring on record.
00:26The UK's average temperature has been 1.4 Celsius above the long-term average.
00:33But it's been the daytime temperatures that have been truly exceptional, of course,
00:37helped by the enormous amounts of sunshine we've seen day to day throughout this spring.
00:43Just to emphasise how exceptional the sunshine has been, not only has it been the sunniest spring on record,
00:50and records go back to 1910 for sunshine,
00:53it's also been one of the sunniest seasons on record.
00:57Normally you'd expect more sunshine in the summer,
01:00but this spring, 2025, has been sunnier than virtually every summer,
01:06going back to 1910, with the exception of three summers.
01:10So overall it's been the fourth sunniest season on record.
01:13Many people have noticed how dry it's been.
01:17Now, it was running close to the driest on record until some much-needed rainfall in the last week of May.
01:24That prevented it from being a record-breaker in terms of rainfall,
01:28but it's certainly been up there as the sixth driest spring on record for the UK
01:33and the second driest for England.
