00:00Mongolia's Prime Minister Lufsanamsrai Oyun Erdene has stepped down after losing the support of
00:08parliament following widespread street protests over corruption allegations. According to a
00:14statement from the Mongolian parliament on Tuesday, a draft resolution on a confidence
00:19vote failed to pass, automatically triggering Oyun Erdene's resignation. In a statement,
00:24he said he was honored to serve the country and its people during difficult times,
00:28including pandemics, wars, and tariffs. Oyun Erdene, who has held office since January 2021
00:35and was re-elected in July 2024, will remain caretaker prime minister until a successor
00:42is appointed within 30 days. His resignation follows weeks of protests in Ulaanbaatar,
00:49with demonstrators accusing Oyun Erdene and his family of corruption. The outgoing leader defended
00:56his record in fighting corruption, but admitted that he had focused too heavily on large-scale
01:02infrastructure projects rather than on social and political reform. During his term, Oyun Erdene
01:10pushed for 14 major development initiatives in the mineral-rich country, including mineral
01:15processing plants, dams, water diversion projects, and power plants.
