John Healey has outlined the government's new defence plans as he revealed aims to spend 3% of GDP on UK defence. It comes as the Ministry of Defence announced a £5 billion investment following the publication of the review on Monday. 00:00Well, I know the reviewers based their review on the government spending plans.
00:05The reviewers have said it's affordable, it's deliverable on the government's plans.
00:10That means the extra 5 billion that we're putting in this year.
00:13It means the 2.5% of GDP, a record increase in defence spending since the Cold War
00:19that will come in in two years' time because we've been willing to switch spending
00:23out of overseas development into defence to meet the threats that we face.
00:28And then that aim in the next parliament to hit 3%.
00:32And as the Prime Minister said yesterday, we are committed to spending what we need to deliver this review.
