00:00I'm announcing through the Strategic Defense Review a record increase, 1.5 billion in the
00:06next five years to upgrade military family homes. Our forces make extraordinary sacrifices to keep
00:16us safe and to serve this country and yet for years we've forced their families to live in
00:21substandard homes that you or I and your viewers just wouldn't tolerate for themselves. That
00:27changes. As a new government we're changing that and already this year we've brought back
00:3336,000 military homes into public ownership, into control so we can start to upgrade them
00:39and plan for the long term. Last month we brought in a consumer charter so the basics of being able
00:46to move into a new home are also met and today we're matching that with this extra 1.5 billion
00:52over the next five years that will allow us to turn round what has been a national scandal
00:58for decades.
