00:00Political analysts have panned Nurul Izzah Anwar's idea of appointing a second deputy president for PKR,
00:09saying such a move would lack legitimacy and could deepen internal divisions in the party.
00:15Rafizi Ramli, who lost to Nurul Izzah in the deputy presidency race,
00:19revealed that she had proposed creating an appointed deputy president's post for him in a private meeting before party delegates voted.
00:27However, Rafizi rejected the offer.
00:30James Chin of the University of Tasmania argued that a non-elected deputy president would lack legitimacy,
00:37saying it was right for Rafizi to reject the idea.
00:40Chin said while the party has the right to determine its structure,
00:44any top leadership positions should be filled through votes by the delegates.
00:49Meanwhile, Shahza Shukri of the International Islamic University Malaysia said while a two-deputy model could work if responsibilities were clearly divided,
00:58she doubted such cooperation was realistic in this context.
01:02She said the proposal appeared to be a political effort by Nurul Izzah to reconcile with Rafizi's faction,
01:08but warned that many would see through the move.
01:11Rafizi previously claimed that Nurul Izzah made a last-ditch appeal to help her after the party polls,
01:18worried the new leadership line-up could spell trouble for her father, party president Amor Ibrahim.
