Leeds City Council is proposing to introduce new measures along the A6110 and A643 Elland Road which aim to make the route safer for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.
00:00A consultation is now running until 8 July, giving Leeds locals and commuters the opportunity to share views on proposals to reconfigure the A6110 Ring Road and A643 Elland Road.
00:13Since 2019, a total of 26 collisions have been recorded here, resulting in 31 casualties, including 1 fatality, 10 serious injuries and 20 slight injuries.
00:25The proposed scheme aims to address issues including collision rates, congestion and limited pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
00:33With over 38,000 people using the roads daily, the proposals include new and upgraded crossings along the route, a new bus-only section on the A643 Elland Road South and upgraded bus stops.
00:47A segregated two-way cycle lane is also being proposed along key sections of the route, providing enhanced safety and better connections to the surrounding areas of Beeston, Holbeck, Leeds City Centre, Morley and the White Rose Shopping Centre, linking with existing cycling provision.
01:04The proposals include minimal changes to Millshore Roundabout, as this is one of the potential options for tram proposals connecting Leeds City Centre and South Leeds.
01:13Any changes to the roundabout will only be developed once the tram route has been confirmed, to ensure works do not have to be revisited.
01:21The scheme would be funded in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, subject to business case approvals.
01:27A condition of the funding means any changes must make it easier and safer to walk, cycle and use public transport.
01:33Responses to the survey can be given online until the 8th of July, and there will also be two drop-in events at Sherwell Community Centre and Cottingley Community Centre.
