Poles began casting their ballots on Sunday in a decisive presidential runoff that could set the course for the nation’s political future and its relations with the European Union.

00:12The contest pits Warsaw Mayor Rafał Czaskowski,
00:15a liberal pro-EU figure, against Karol Nawrowski,
00:19a conservative historian backed by the right-wing Law and Justice Party.
00:23Czaskowski has promised to promote constructive ties with European partners,
00:28while Nawrowski has positioned himself as a defender of traditional Polish values,
00:32skeptical of the EU.
00:34The runoff follows a tightly contested first round on May 18th,
00:38in which Czaskowski won just over 31%,
00:41and Nawrowski nearly 30%, eliminating 11 other candidates.
