Gorakhpur, May 31 — Four young men lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi National Highway near Barahalganj police station limits on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:45 am when a motorcycle carrying the four victims collided head-on with a speeding SUV attempting to overtake a tractor. The impact was so severe that two riders were flung nearly 20 feet into the air, while the other two were dragged for almost 100 meters on the car's bonnet before the vehicle came to a halt. The SUV driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.

The deceased were identified as Sunil Kumar (22), Pradyumn Kumar (22), Arvind Kumar (23), and Rahul Kumar (22) — all whitewash workers from Garthauli Tola in Sidhwapar Gram Sabha. Locals and police rushed them to a community health centre, where Sunil, Pradyumn, and Arvind were declared dead. Rahul succumbed to injuries on the way to the district hospital.

According to neighbours, Pradyumn, Arvind, and Rahul were relatives, while Sunil was a close friend. Rahul was the only child of his parents and was to be engaged on June 1.

Circle Officer Manoj Kumar Pandey confirmed that an FIR has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver.
