Mumbai – In a shocking incident from Mira Road, a restaurant owner was slapped multiple times by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers for not speaking in Marathi. A video of the assault has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage and debate on linguistic imposition.

The altercation began when three MNS workers confronted the owner, asking why he wasn’t using Marathi. The owner responded, “I didn’t know Marathi was compulsory. Someone will have to teach me,” which triggered anger. After a heated exchange, one of the workers slapped him repeatedly in full public view.

While some defended the promotion of Marathi, many condemned the use of violence. Police have taken cognisance of the incident; no formal complaint has been filed yet.
