00:00Chief seconds.
00:15All right, Jamal and Thomas, you received my instructions earlier so you know what I
00:20expect a clean professional about. Obey my commands and protect yourself at all times.
00:26Jamal, punches right here are not considered low. Punches right here are not considered
00:34low. Touch him up. Good luck.
00:36Lamont has gold written across the t-shirt he wore into the ring. He wants to shock the
00:41world. Prohibitive underdog, but that's why they fight.
00:45Indeed, and this is a kid who's been a boxing lifer, comes from a boxing family, his father,
00:50a manager, a promoter. We know Cornflake himself is a regional promoter.
00:55But this is the biggest fight of his career. Let's see what the kid can do.
00:59Charlo reuniting with his first amateur trainer, Highland Williams Sr., who also led him in the
01:05early stages of his career, no longer working with Ronnie Shields. Also has former two-division
01:11champ, one of his favorite fighters, Juwan Guzman, helping out in the corner. And we are
01:15underway round one scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds after another long layoff. What kind of questions
01:23need to be answered early for Jamal Charlo, BC?
01:25Well, definitely when we're talking about ring rust, which is in some ways unavoidable, you got to be
01:31timed. The timing of that jab has to be a big thing. The footwork, just the comfort level. He showed that a couple of years back in 2023 against Jose Benavidez Jr. that he quickly adjusted to that.
01:41And Abner has jabbed more than a setup. It is a weapon. In fact, he dropped Cornelius Bundridge with a jab when he became a 154-pound champion. And then in one of his better title defenses, he dropped Julian Williams with a jab. So, a very powerful weapon and really one of the best sticks in the sport.
02:01And right on cue, right there, Charlo Lanning, a stiff jab to Lomona's face. And yes, that's the key for him. That's the opener for everything. The lead jab and the combinations behind that.
02:13And when Charlo is at his best as well, BC's, when he has that chip on his shoulder, when he brings venom to his punches, when he's mean.
02:21Look, it's the rare, not just fighter, but athlete in professional sports who can almost perform better when they're angry, when they have something to prove. That's what Jamal Charlo has, his fight. And let's say something for Cornflake Lomona. He's pressed Charlo's buttons at times in the buildup. He's been passive-aggressive. He's been sort of using the layoff against Charlo. All that doesn't matter, though, when they touch gloves. And here we are. But Charlo's got to make sure that he reminds everybody that with the unbeaten record, he's still the hitman.
02:49Yeah, Lomona doing total the opposite of what I thought he was gonna do in this first round, which is pressure Charlo. Make him feel uncomfortable. He's letting Charlo get off with that jab.
03:02And Charlo never in a rush. He's a patient predator.
03:06Has a high IQ, can adjust to whatever his opponent gives him. And you see the effect of that jab already. Look at the redness around the forehead and nose of Lomona.
03:17Yeah, Lomona's got to be careful what comes behind that jab, that stiff right hand. Powerful right hand also from Charlo.
03:23Yeah, style defined by precision, patience, and punishing intent. A sharpshooting boxer-puncher doesn't waste motion. Everything is measured. Everything matters. And as we mentioned, he applies pressure without chasing.
03:37Using footwork and a high guard defense to stay safe while breaking opponents down. And you know, he was once criticized for his low output.
03:45But we did see it against Montiel and against Jose Benavides Jr., where there's definitely been an uptick in the offensive department in terms of punches thrown.
03:55All right.
04:01Every night fights every month on Prime.
04:05The remake is shown to Jeff, is it?
04:07The personification of aggression.
04:09You are watching the world's greatest martial artist on the planet.
04:13The new era of the WNBA is on Prime.
04:19The skills, the thrills, the thrills.
04:23All eyes on the W.
04:25Liberty Mystics, then Valkyrie's Mercury.
04:27Thursday at 7.30 p.m. Eastern, only on Prime.
04:30Downstairs, let's see what he's doing.
04:32All right, how you feel?
04:33Keep downloading the information.
04:35Don't give away nothing.
04:36Nothing free.
04:37Looking good, son.
04:38Keep it up.
04:39One round at a time.
04:40Charlo's trainer, Highland Williams Sr., wants him to continue downloading data.
04:55We thought it would take about three or four rounds to try to find his rhythm, his timing, shed whatever ring rust there might be.
05:02And for LaMana's corner, they don't want him standing in front of Charlo.
05:06Use the jab and move.
05:10And there's the double jab from Charlo.
05:12And we talk about offense.
05:14Well, in that first round, Charlo was 10 of 31.
05:17LaMana, 2 of 24.
05:19Neither landed a power punch.
05:21So, very much a cautious start.
05:24That was a nice jab right there by LaMana.
05:26He's jabbing with Charlo.
05:27And you want to continue to do that if you're LaMana.
05:30That's his best skill.
05:31Working that jab.
05:32Being active.
05:33Using footwork to turn you.
05:34But also, being smart on the inside.
05:36He should hold against Charlo, in my opinion.
05:39Try to frustrate him.
05:40Frustrate him, yep.
05:41Try to really just get under his skin like he did in the build-up to this fight at times.
05:44Yeah, you got to make it an ugly fight at times if you're LaMana.
05:47You got to make Charlo feel uncomfortable definitely.
05:50And doubt himself.
05:51Again, he's coming back after a year and a half.
05:53We talk about Charlo going the last three fights without a knockout.
05:57Of course, now moving up to 168 pounds.
06:01The power coming with him.
06:03And we'll have to wait and see because he's 33-0 with 22 knockouts.
06:08Really, the most comprehensive, the greatest performance of his career was against Sergey Derbyenchenko, the three-time title challenger.
06:14And one of the most complete performances of Jamal Charlo's career.
06:18And while LaMana on the run trying to avoid the punishing jab of Charlo, and Charlo sticks it right in his face.
06:28And that jab has created some swelling around the left eye of LaMana.
06:32Something to monitor.
06:33And he needs to stay off the ropes.
06:35Yeah, and as a fighter, once you start feeling yourself, once you start seeing that your punches are landing, that's it.
06:40It's over.
06:41And that's what's happening right now.
06:42Charlo is feeling that his punches are landing.
06:45He's not missing at all.
06:46Charlo told us one mistake by LaMana, and it will be lights out.
06:51Just over a minute left here in the second.
06:54Ooh.
06:55Great right hand counterpunch right there by Charlo.
07:02I talked about Charlo becoming a busier fighter.
07:05Not the case so far here in the early stages.
07:10Charlo told us about the reunion with his old original trainer, Harlow Hillian Sr.
07:15It was about the mentality, the comfortability, the way that they talk to each other.
07:19He did still say the legendary trainer, Ronnie Shields, they're still on great terms.
07:22They can reunite at any time.
07:24But let's see what this new chapter brings with an old face in the corner there for Jamal Charlo.
07:29He said he wanted to go back to his roots, and then the roots of his professional career was as a pretty decent knockout artist.
07:35So, and you know, according to the odds and everyone you ask, I mean, Thomas LaMana, Taylor made for a guy like Charlo to record a knockout win.
07:45Despite LaMana's momentum and the nine fight win streak, nowhere near the level of opposition that Charlo presents here tonight.
07:52Five seconds, not for the bell.
07:54Time.
07:55Hey, let me get in.
08:00Take your time, don't rest yourself.
08:13Okay?
08:14Let it come to you.
08:15But then all that, it's all gonna be based on the jab.
08:19Okay?
08:20You can see I've been a little bit busier with it for me, okay?
08:23And now right hand's starting to get through.
08:27You talking with that good right hand and the hook?
08:32Small headbutt, no damage.
08:41How you feel?
08:42Good?
08:49You okay?
08:50Hey.
08:53Lerman has.
08:56Lewb Mena's trainer Reggie Lloyd telling his fighter.
08:59Charlo's too slow.
09:00You're letting them have success.
09:02He's weekend.
09:05Wait to see.
09:06Yeah, I don't know about him being slow.
09:07I mean, he was able to the counter with the right hand Charlo.
09:11Oh, here's an aggressive start by LaMana.
09:17Resets and eats the jab from Charlo.
09:19See that looping right hand by LaMana.
09:22Those are the risks you got to take.
09:24You got to go out there and throw bombs if you're LaMana.
09:26This is a big opportunity for you.
09:31And the ultra-patient.
09:34Stocker Charlo.
09:37Also a great counter-control.
09:39That punchline did for LaMana.
09:41It's not that Charlo has a simple style,
09:44but the jab setting up the big right hand,
09:47it is hard to deal with when you figure in his timing,
09:50his explosiveness.
09:51He's starting to show a little bit of that old Hitman here,
09:54the way he's setting that up.
09:59Oh, a great hand that lands.
10:02And there's a veteran LaMana trying.
10:04And he's dropped for the fifth time in his career.
10:08Five, six, seven, eight.
10:12Walk over to him.
10:13Ready to go?
10:14LaMana goes down for the fifth time in his career here in round three.
10:22LaMana is caught into the left eye from that punch that knocked him down.
10:27The timing's back.
10:28The power's back from Charlo.
10:29And it's not that Charlo doesn't throw enough.
10:43He throws just enough in the right punches.
10:47Well, he doesn't waste punches.
10:48And he's not being made to play for that
10:50because of the impact of these big shots on LaMana.
10:53Under a minute now left to end the third.
11:01LaMana finds himself cornered.
11:03The jab in the right hand.
11:05And caught up by Charlo.
11:07LaMana trying to stand his ground.
11:10Showing some bravado under fire.
11:12And they're shouting more throwing if you're LaMana.
11:16Also, be careful what you're asking for from the hitman.
11:19There's a jab.
11:21The counter jab by Charlo.
11:24LaMana is trying to fight back.
11:26After going down, he's not gun shy.
11:28He isn't running away.
11:29Now resetting, utilizing lateral movement.
11:31And that's exactly how you cut off the ring.
11:36You're not just chasing him.
11:38Charlo's cutting off the ring,
11:40putting you behind the ropes.
11:41And LaMana is just in survival mode right now.
11:44You ain't got to look at me.
12:09Just listen to me.
12:10Listen to me.
12:12Blake, this motherfucking too slow.
12:13And he's lazy.
12:15And you let him take the fight.
12:17He's lazy.
12:18All he's going is just stepping.
12:20I need you to pop that fucking jab.
12:22Stuff him around.
12:23Do you understand me?
12:25I need you to pop that jab.
12:26He's lazy.
12:28Here's a replay on how the knockdown happened.
12:31The stiff jab.
12:32The perfect timing of the right hand.
12:34One right hand.
12:36He misses with the hook there,
12:37but he follows up with the overhand right Charlo.
12:40A fighter that has been out for a year and a half
12:44and showing no ring rush whatsoever.
12:47Beautiful overhand right by Charlo.
12:49Right in the temple.
12:52Charlo fighting poised, but fighting mean.
12:54And that is flashes of the old Charlo.
12:57Good to see after everything he's been through outside of the ring
13:00to come back like this inside of it.
13:03Beginning of round four.
13:04Scheduled for 10 at 168 pounds.
13:15Ramana's face definitely showing the receipts
13:17of taking the power of Charlo,
13:19but he hasn't quit on himself.
13:21Still in there trying to plant seeds behind that jab
13:23and work back into the fight.
13:27I think he's got to pressure.
13:29He's got to push Charlo back.
13:31Not just going backwards.
13:32And he's giving Charlo the momentum,
13:34letting him get off first.
13:38Charlo's stocking.
13:39Ramana just misses with the left hook.
13:45There's a stiff jab that runs for Charlo.
13:47Another jab.
13:49If you're Ramana, you want to time that jab.
13:58I know it's easier to set than done,
14:00but if they feel like he's too slow,
14:01they time the jab.
14:03Counter punch on top of it.
14:09Charlo wanting to set that trap
14:10and land that counter right.
14:12There's the jab from Ramana.
14:16Ramana's knee.
14:19It's part of Charlo.
14:27Abner, how important at this point
14:28of Jermal's career do you think it is
14:30to get rounds tonight?
14:32Really important.
14:33He talked about it in interviews.
14:34He said, I want some rounds.
14:36And it seems like he's taking his time.
14:38There's no rushing Charlo.
14:40He knows he's landing every single shot.
14:41And yet the pressure is on him
14:43to make a statement with an emphatic victory.
14:47Right, Abner?
14:47Yes, there is also.
14:49But again, it's barely the fourth round.
14:51You already got a knockdown.
14:53You've heard LaMana many times.
14:55So right now, it's just a matter of when,
14:57to be honest.
15:04Under a minute left here in round four.
15:07Let's echo what Abner said earlier
15:14about the twin brothers,
15:15the Charlo twins reuniting.
15:18They've always been each other's biggest fans
15:20in a lot of ways.
15:21But they can be rivals.
15:22They can push each other's buttons.
15:24It's heartwarming to see the love rekindled
15:27between them knowing that they're both
15:28on the comeback trail.
15:31LaMana Buffa did not go down.
15:36But was hurt by that shot from Charlo.
15:3915 seconds left here in the fourth frame.
15:41The left hand, not just as a jab, as a hook.
15:45It hurt LaMana.
15:47All right, let's take a look back
16:03at what just transpired today.
16:05The LaMana's gloves touched the canvas
16:08after the left.
16:10It didn't seem like it did.
16:11It buckled him, definitely.
16:13Oh, no.
16:14No.
16:17Great knees there and balance from LaMana.
16:26Nope, did not touch the canvas.
16:32There is...
16:34Oh, the left knee in the back.
16:36The left knee in the very bottom.
16:40They are officially calling it a knockdown.
16:43That's the sixth.
16:44After further review, referee Mark Nelson
16:49indicating to us that, yes, indeed,
16:52it is a knockdown.
16:53So the second knockdown of the fight
16:55and the sixth time that Thomas LaMana's
16:57been down in his career.
17:01Yeah, I was so focused on the glove touch
17:03and the canvas that I missed
17:05that his knee touched the canvas.
17:07So, yeah, official knockdown.
17:10Could have used the expediency
17:11on that replay situation
17:12earlier this year
17:14in the big tank Davis-Lamont-Roads matchup.
17:18Look at that jab.
17:19It started with one, two jabs.
17:21Now you're double, triple,
17:22dribbling the jab.
17:24Talking about Charlo.
17:25So LaMana's been down in round three
17:31due to an overhand right by Charlo
17:33and then went down in round four
17:34due to the left.
17:38Look at that pressure by Charlo.
17:41He's right in front of you.
17:43Not a lot of punches, though,
17:46for just the left.
17:47That little check left hand
17:50wobbled LaMana.
17:52And so far, Charlo has landed
17:56twice as many jabs
17:58as LaMana has landed punches.
18:01And Charlo is down for the third time.
18:06No, three knockdown roll with that,
18:08but he's frustrated.
18:10And he's showing the vestiges
18:12of this punishment.
18:14Now the question is,
18:19did Charlo get enough rounds
18:21now to fill himself
18:22and get LaMana out?
18:24Charlo has dropped LaMana
18:27in rounds three, four,
18:28and now five.
18:33This isn't just about
18:34the comeback of Jamal Charlo.
18:36We know there could be
18:37big business in the near future
18:38with the likes
18:39of the main eventer
18:41and Caleb Planck.
18:42So far, though,
18:43Big Charlo seems to be back
18:45and seems to be handling
18:46his business.
18:47Yeah, it doesn't seem like
18:50he wants to get him out
18:51in this realm, Charlo,
18:52waiting.
18:53Ramana's having fun in there,
19:09but it is kind of hard to talk
19:10when you're this far behind.
19:12It's frustrating,
19:13Noah's upon LaMana
19:14not being able to do anything
19:17really in this fight.
19:18He's on a mock title.
19:23You get the feeling
19:24like one more knockdown
19:25might be enough
19:26for the referee
19:26to step in here.
19:27Absolutely.
19:30LaMana purely
19:31trying to stay on his feet
19:34at this stage.
19:34Body shot from Charlo LaMana
19:36using his feet
19:39to try to avoid the attack.
19:41He needs to get off the ropes.
19:43Lateral movement.
19:44The ever-patient Charlo
19:46continues to
19:48just measure LaMana.
19:51Right hand by LaMana
19:52brings out a smile
19:53from Charlo
19:54to champ, though.
19:55That's LaMana.
20:04Give me a little more.
20:05Flakes.
20:19Do you make a favor
20:20to keep your hands up
20:20when you're stepping around?
20:21I don't know.
20:22Huh?
20:26I need you to keep
20:27some hands up
20:27while we're stepping around,
20:28all right?
20:30And here we're going to see
20:31a replay on how exactly
20:32the knockdown was
20:34and we get the right hand
20:37in between the gloves
20:39of LaMana.
20:40Not a clean shot.
20:42It was right on top
20:43of the glove,
20:44but enough power
20:45to get LaMana
20:46off balance
20:47and knock him down.
20:50And in that last round,
20:51the last seconds,
20:52he went hurt.
20:53He was hurt
20:53going into that corner,
20:54LaMana.
20:56It may just be
20:57a matter of time
20:58before Jamal Charlo
21:00closes the show
21:01and his return
21:02here in Las Vegas
21:03to a new weight class
21:04and they are
21:05taking a look
21:07at Thomas LaMana.
21:09That's a heck of a shirt
21:10on the ringside.
21:11Doctor,
21:11where's Joe Goosin?
21:13Listen,
21:14doctor recommendation
21:15for stopping the play.
21:16Oh!
21:17Oh!
21:19Oh!
21:23Get the fuck out of here.
21:26Oh!
21:28Charlo dropping LaMana
21:30three times
21:31and here at the start
21:33of round six,
21:35the fight has been
21:36stopped.
21:38Charlo returns,
21:39improves to 34-0
21:41with his 23rd
21:43knockout win.
21:45Listen,
21:45even though I don't agree
21:46on the stoppage,
21:48it was just a matter
21:49of time, really.
21:50It was.
21:51Charlo landing,
21:53jabs,
21:53right hands,
21:54power shots
21:55every given moment
21:56and it was just
21:57really a matter of time.
21:59LaMana was already hurt.
22:09And you even see
22:11from Charlo
22:11a little bit of frustration.
22:13He perhaps wanted to go
22:14a little bit more rounds.
22:16But then again,
22:16a great performance.
22:18A little bit of ring rust,
22:19but not enough
22:20to catch my eye
22:21and say,
22:21you know what,
22:22it didn't look good.
22:22Charlo is back
22:24and he made
22:25his statement tonight.
22:34It's showtime
22:35and there's no better
22:36way to win on boxing
22:37than with DraftKings
22:37Sportsbook.
22:38This is the home
22:39of boxing bets.

23:01So Jamal Charlo
23:03doing his part

23:12is stopped
23:13here before

23:33stoppage
23:34just yet
23:34from Charlo
23:35but again
23:36here we see a demonstration
23:37of the power jab
23:39that he is known by.
23:40stiff jab
23:41in the right hand
23:42opening up the guard
23:46in the overhand right
23:47that wobbled there
23:48and got LaMana
23:49outbalanced.
23:50There he is again
23:51hurt
23:52and it's every right hand
23:53that Charlo was throwing
23:55that was hurting LaMana.
23:58LaMana attempted
23:59to throw
24:00and land an overhand hook
24:02but it was him
24:03that took a hook
24:04to the face
24:05he got buckled there
24:07a straight right hand
24:08in between the gloves
24:10to get LaMana
24:11down off balance
24:12and here is where
24:14the referee said
24:15it was enough.
