00:00All right, Brent Rooker of the A's, 12 home runs, 27 runs driven in.
00:06I suppose there's like a little, is there a disappointment with Rooker's season so far?
00:11I mean, I don't know.
00:12I mean, maybe you thought he was going to go crazy and hit like 50 this year.
00:16But I would bet on a great second half.
00:19I kind of like this player.
00:21Depends what you need.
00:22I do believe in Rooker.
00:23I think he's hitting 40 at the end of the year, I do think.
00:26He saw a pace for about 35.
00:27He's not that far off.
00:28We know the weather's going to heat up in Sacramento and that ball's going to fly out of there like a Super Bowl.
00:33All right, so yeah, I believe you.
00:34But what do you need?
00:35You know, if you don't need power, he's worthless to you.
00:38He's not going to help you on average or smell, you know, stolen bases or anything like that.
00:42So if you don't need the power, then I'm not bothering you.
00:44But if you need the power, if you're in a points league, you know, absolutely, I want Rooker.
00:48I think he'll be better.
00:50It's not the same, better than what he's doing right now.
00:52And I think he ends the season 40 plus home runs.
00:54All right, Paul Goldschmidt having a career season with the Yankees in terms of batting average.
01:00I mean, this is something that nobody could have seen coming.
01:03Is this right?
01:03It looks like a typo.
01:05347 for Paul Goldschmidt?
01:07No, I know he's hit 30 before.
01:08I know he's driven in 100 before.
01:11And he's only got five home runs, but probably second half ends up hitting 15, ends up with 20.
01:17But George, 347 for Paul Goldschmidt?
01:19What gives?
01:22Yeah, the Yankees didn't know this was coming.
01:25All right, they didn't know this was coming.
01:26I think he's going to be this good.
01:28All right, is he going to hit that the rest of the year?
01:31I doubt it.
01:32But what was the thing with Goldschmidt coming in, right?
01:34We were wondering, okay, he was terrible for 75% of last year, but this sort of, you know, he played better.
01:40In, you know, late August, September.
01:42So, which is the true thing?
01:43The first four or five months of the season or the last month, month and a half?
01:46Well, I guess it was the last month, month and a half here because he looks good.
01:49He looks good with the Yankees.
01:50It certainly helps that he's either hitting behind or in front of Judge, you know, so I'm sure that's doing it well.
01:55But he's crushing left-handers.
01:58I mean, crushing them.
01:59He may not be hitting home runs, but his batting average, his OPS is nuts against left-handed pitching there,
02:03which is what the Yankees were looking for here.
02:05So, he's had a really good first third.
02:08Do I think he keeps it up?
02:09I think his average is going to come down.
02:10His home run is going to go up.
02:12You know, I think that's what's going to happen there.
02:13So, I think he's going to be a useful player here for you at first base or corner infielder.
02:17Yeah, and I think, you know, George, when you look at it, you know, year after year, batting average seems to be going down across the league.
02:25If you may remember, Luis Arias last year led the National League in hitting, I think, was hitting over 300.
02:31So, anybody that's hitting this high, I mean, you're taking that to the bank.
02:35Now, again, being sustainable, George, seems to be almost impossible.
02:38I mean, Goldschmidt has no track record whatsoever of being a 300 hitter.
02:43But I think people forget that these stats right now are banked.
02:47So, in all likelihood, if you drafted him, your batting average for the season is a little bit better than you thought it would be.
02:53Absolutely, right?
02:55You know, you're taking that and run.
02:56But it's funny.
02:57If you drafted him, you weren't drafting him for average.
03:00You were probably drafting him for power.
03:01I think, okay, he'll hit 20.
03:02You know, it's a low 25 maybe.
03:04You know, and now you're getting sort of the reverse here.
03:06He's not stealing bases like he used to, but that's to be expected.
03:08He's older here.
03:09And the Yankees aren't a big running team anyway, so they're not going to have him just steal wildly.
03:14Plus, if Judge is on base, if Goldschmidt's on base and Judge is batting, he ain't running.
03:19You're not giving up that out front of Judge when he might hit a two-run home run there.
03:22So, like I said, overall, it's been a very good signing for the Yankees here.
03:25They're going to have a decision to make at the end of the year deal.
03:27You know, re-sign, have him keep him in pinstripes.
03:29He let him go here.
03:31Not that the Yankees have a young first baseman in the midst going to take the job.
03:34They do not.
03:35So, it's either going to be Goldschmidt next year or some other veteran player coming along here.
03:38But for the Yankees, you know, good move.
03:41It's working out well.
03:42He's a good fit in the organization, and he's been productive, and he's a really good defensive player as well,
03:48which is also nice for the Yankees.
